Hosting May 22 - mid/Oct My husband Dan and I purchased this property 6 years ago and have totally restored the land, home and barn from its prior condition. Consequently, if you view the various on line satellite images be advised they are out of date and do not reflect the love we have put into our sanctuary. We are retired and live here with our two standard poodles Mila and Indiana.
The property is 5 acres, mostly meadow with a maple grove as well as a wooded ravine. We have planted various fruit trees, cherries, apples, peach as well as pears. We also have a small grape and berry patch which is next to our vintage trailer. There is also an old abandoned trail through the forest that makes for a nice walk.
Our location is convenient to Traverse City, Alden, Belaire, Kalkaska as well as the equestrian center and the casino in Williamsburg. There are various places to eat/drink within close proximity as well as places to purchase fuel, groceries and liquor.
Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas are a convenient drive where you can visit the many vineyards, orchards, shops and enjoy the beautiful vistas of the lake and bays, or shop some of the unique stores and galleries.
There are many off road vehicle and bike trails that are not far away as well. As well as boating on beautiful Torch Lake and the chain of lakes.
A day trip to Sleeping Bear dunes is well worth the drive.
We would be happy to make suggestions on activities, dining, entertainment during your stay.
We currently have three sites which are on seperate areas of the property. Lake View site is a Vintage 1985 Avion travel trailer which as been completely renovated with all new systems. It is located with a western view of Lake Skegemog and next to our grape and berry patch in our back yard. Maple Grove site is a new Coachmen Catalina Destination series RV. It is located on the front side of the property next to the maple tree grove. Lavender Lane is located in front of our barn with a view of our small orchard and the forest, close to the walking trail. All our sites are fully outfitted with quality linens, towels, dishes and cooking equipment. All of the units have Air Conditioned and heat.
New this year is our chicken coop and run. We (Bill) has always wanted chickens.

What a special place. The A Frame is so thoughtfully constructed and appointed for all you need in a compact and comfortable ‘camping’ environment. The mattresses are comfortable, sleeping bags if you need them, water, hot plate, kettle, radio, power, lights, very clean bathroom - area outside for fire and bbq … and the convertible siding is such* a special touch - I ended the night with a bourbon on the deck and stars and started the morning in bed w coffee and the siding up and didn’t want to leave. John was super friendly and responsive and you can see the care he and his family have put into this space. It’s also 10 mins from Charlevoix which is convenient. Big fan. 10/10. Highly recommend !

Weekend Trip to pineleaf.
We had a wonderful time staying at Pineleaf! Our host, Tim, was very welcoming and hospitable. We stayed in the cabin. We woke up every morning to a great variety of birds and wildlife surrounding us, especially in the gorgeous field that the deck overlooked. The bed and outhouse bathroom were exceptionally clean. We highly recommend staying here and hope to come back soon!

Stayed here with my family of four for two nights and my kids said this was their favorite place we stayed! The bus is rustic so if you are expecting the four seasons then please move along. If you want a truly unique campsite in the northern part of the mitten, then this is for you. We never met our host in person but they were very easy to chat with via the app and also gave us their phone number in case we needed anything. We brought our own camp stove and cooked outside for all of our meals, but I think if you wanted to use the propane cooktop in the bus you need to bring your own propane. There was also a fire pit where we had wonderful fires in the evenings. This spot is really private and we loved spending time here. It is also only a few minutes from the town of Charlevoix and in less than 10 minutes you can be at a beach, you can be at the grocery store, or you can be eating ice cream or dining at a great restaurant.
The air conditioning in the bus keeps it nice and cool, it is pretty buggy in Michigan this time of year so we appreciate keeping everything shut while we were sleeping.
If I was coming here again I would make sure to bring two full sized fitted sheets and one twin sized fitted sheet for the bed. You bring all your own bedding so please take note.
There were some very basic kitchen amenities that we found helpful, but whatever you require you should bring.
Bathroom was clean and easy to use.
Definitely hoping we'll come again!

We had a great time in the Avion at HillCrest! The location is perfect, close to lots of things to do but far away to feel secluded. The Avion itself was stocked with essentials and was the perfect cozy spot to hang out ant the end of the day. Dan and Bill were very welcoming hosts and have put a lot of time and love into their beautiful property. We look forward to planning an another trip!

Whenever we had a problem (a storm knocked out one of the A/C units) or needed something (spices and a grill) Bill was very responsive and resolved it. The outdoor space is beautiful and inviting. The hot tub was amazing after hiking earlier in the day. The location was great; quiet, secluded, and out of the way yet close enough to Traverse City, Torch Lake, cute towns like Elk Rapids and Alden, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Bill and Dan are excellent hosts, and have done an incredible job restoring their property. We'd recommend staying with them at any of their sites, but we will definitely be back to Maple Grove!

Tims cabin is so awesome and relaxing. It's just you and nature. It's a little drive off grid on a little dirt road easily accessable for any vehicle. Tim make sure to help you in anyway. If it's all the stuff he stocks in the cabin just in case you forgot something, to offering you information on what there is to do close to camp. This was our fourth stay and it was only for one night. My wife and I were on the way home from the U.P. and needed some where to stay about half way. It was nice catching up with Tim ( who we consider a good friend ) I'm glad he's giving us a chance to enjoy his piece of paradise . Thanks again Tim!

Yurts are so cute, super clean well appointed and comfortable. The bathrooms designated for yurt guests are also very nice and clean. Great attention to detail and I appreciate that we didn’t see the RV part of the property. I Ben if close to town it still felt peaceful and in nature. Very happy we found this special spot to spend a night.

We hope to get back to the Traverse City area (this was our first time) and we would absolutely return to Dan and Bill's HillCrest!
The best accommodations (all we needed to bring were our food and clothes!) Our RV (Maple Grove Catalina) had everything else we needed... even a Keurig with some pods, cocktail shaker, toaster, small blender, and I think there was also a pressure cooker and crockpot. Even a small dishwasher and washer/dryer combo!
Absolutely beautiful property!! Quiet, peaceful, just truly GREAT.
AND, Bill and Dan are genuinely very gracious and interesting hosts who care about the details. If we weren't 350+ miles away, we'd be inviting them over for dinner.
