For example, only 16 miles away is Mitchell State Park. White sand, blue water and warm sunlight mesh to make a rockin’ vacation atmosphere at William Mitchell State Park. Whether you’re a fan of skiing, hiking, snowmobiling, fishing or swimming, you can give your next outdoor excursion a dash of something special here. We had a fantastic stay at Site 1 – Elm Valley (hosted by Jayne). From the moment we arrived, Jayne greeted us warmly, offered firewood, and helped guide our 22-ft travel trailer into the perfect spot. The site was level, flat, with water & electric hookups—just what we needed. We were among the last campers of the season and feel grateful we were able to secure such a great location. The location was very convenient—several wineries were just a short drive away—making it easy to explore when time permitted. We were in town for the Iceman Cometh Challenge mountain bike race and enjoyed chatting with Jayne about the event and her family/friends who’ve done it. Upon departure, her husband stopped by to ensure everything was good—it wrapped up the stay perfectly. Jayne is exactly the kind of host you hope for: friendly, attentive but unobtrusive. We’ll absolutely plan to return—maybe next summer to make fuller use of those nearby wineries. Highly recommended.

Weekend Trip to Ricky’s Pine River hunt/camp

We loved camping at Rick’s! The cabin was well stocked with spices, flashlights, cozy and nice bedding. Rick resupied firewood for us and pointed out the trails to explore. The view from the cabin porch was beautiful with lots of colorful trees. The firepit was huge and we used the grates to cook over the fire. We’re coming back next summer!

Rick's place was such a gift. There were so many signs of thoughtfulness and insight into his prepared mind. Not only was the cabin equipped w/ basics but he also offers extras such as raincoats, hammocks, and what not. The property is well cared for, he has beautifully growing plants on the front porch The outhouse was actually nice, well stocked, and it was clean! The cabin too, was very clean, cleanest tiny cabin in woods I've seen yet! I like how he designed and decorated the cabin, it felt much bigger than it was. The framed bear art was so enjoyable to look at, each time I'd find something I hadn't before. It was like a mix between a Hieronymus Bosch piece and a teddy bears picnic! I highly recommend, he's a really nice easy going guy, pleasant to communicate with.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The scenery was stunning—fall colors everywhere and peaceful views in every direction. It was incredibly quiet and relaxing, perfect for a weekend getaway. The campsite were large, clean, and perfectly level, which made setup a breeze. You can really tell the hosts take pride in keeping the place beautiful and well-maintained. We’ve done a lot of fall camping, and this was easily one of our favorites. We’ll definitely be coming back!

The camp spot on Luke's farm was lovely. While we requested the kayaks for their pond, we did not end up using them. The space was very private. We had a little trouble getting to the space as the direction listed in the booking did not land you immediately into the space, but more like adjacent. We arrived late and it was dark out so we had a tough time knowing where to turn, there was very little signage to indicate where exactly to go, and we did not have the best cell service. We made it to their farm and we were given a map. Overall, i would stay there again and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful time out in nature. The views of the autumn foliage were abundant. Thank you!

Perhaps the best place I've stayed at on hip camp. Definitely top 5. Robb and Jeanne have a really great place. The photos are accurate. The pine forest was great. At night you can hear the wind traveling from one side to the other. I love the clean flat carpet of pine needles. In the morning we drove about 5 minutes to lake Michigan Beach which was gorgeous. No bugs at all this time of year. I liked the community fireplace because it was all setup and quick to get a fire going. There is a volleyball court in the grass too.
