Best camping grounds ever! So clean, beautiful and a great time! The bathrooms are wonderful, the logs for fire are awesome and everything is so easy!

Great location. 100 yard walk down the road to Bear Den brewery was perfect to wait out the rain. Nice site with firepits and good flat renting areas and picnic table. Directly off AT so short walks or long hikes are all accessible. The small nature loop to see the view was a dream for an evening walk. Perfect to get out of dc and be totally in the woods within an hour and change drive. And the price is unbelievable, what a value! I’d second the request from another reviewer to add the option to pay the parking fee in the booking! Although they have added a PayPal feature so cash isn’t required any more. Note it’s not private at all. The sites are all clustered in the same clearing. It’s a friendly vibe, and everyone was respectful, and went to bed early. But conversations spoken in normal tone were easily overheard!

Our doggies loved meeting the Alpacas--these animals make such a wild clucking sound that had my puppies entranced. I didn't know till my visit there that my doggies spoke Alpaca! Kimberly pours her heart into this property. She is so gracious and accommodating. Her guests comfort and enjoyment at Happy Heart Highlands and Alpacas are her top priority. Be sure to arrive on a clear day to enjoy the starscape!

It was great camping in the pasture. The sheep dogs are very friendly and well behaved. They really do snuggle up and love a good game of fetch. The alpaca, donkey, horse, and sheep are friendly too and great for entertaining kids. We will definitely return.

5 Star HipCamp! Great for families and pets. The property is beautiful and peaceful and the host, Steve went above and beyond. Site are spread out and plenty of privacy. Water is available right at the site. Nice fire ring and picnic table as well. Porta potties are a sort distance away from any site and appeared to be new and very clean. The main building has Starlink wifi available and a few things to buy if you need something. Also a restroom is available in the building. Our favorite part is that the sites are right along the river for easy access. Water was high from all the rain when we were there but I am sure at normal levels this would be a great fishing spot. An added treat was the ability to buy top grade beef grown right on the property. We took some home and loved it. Better price than the store and you know where it came from! River Farms is highly recommended and we will be back again soon. We are veteran Hip Campers and this is one of the best we have ever visited.

Weekend Trip to Happy Heart Highlands and Alpacas

What can we say about our time at Kim’s place? Restful, relaxing, farm land as far as the eye can see, and oh, the animals! The Highlands are fluffy and sweet, the Angus cows are beautiful, and the Alpacas are adorable! Not to mention all the precious little calves! And peacocks too! We stayed at the Barnyard Bliss site and enjoyed every moment. We became friends with the barn cats who made for great company :) And the view of the cattle pastures was lovely. Kim is a fabulous host who goes above and beyond for her guests! We highly recommend her farm tour - the price is worth the adventure and the memories! One tip for guests - bring cash! Kim offers an array of items, including wood, eggs, charcoal and snacks at a reasonable price. Bu cell service could be iffy depending on your carrier, so the cash app may not work well. We had Verizon and struggled to get bars (although outside the issue with cash app, we didn’t mind and we enjoyed unplugging). No sewer was no issue. The KOA in Harpers Ferry was $20 to dump our tanks - easy breezy. Great camping spot. Don’t wait - book it! You won’t regret it. We will definitely be back!

Our group absolutely loved this stay, and we plan to be back again this year hopefully. Great sites, spread out from other sites/campers, with ample space for our dogs. Wonderfully kept farm, and the grass-fed beef on the way out was great as well (we wish we bought more for our freezer)!

It’s a nice spot that we will come to again. The land is cleared but also good tree coverage. Small creek next to the site provides nice sound and kids can play as well. Playset and trampoline also good for entertaining. You can walk property to see horses, chickens and a peacock. Keith stopped by to say hi and check in as well. Highly recommend.

Take a brisk walk to the cattle pastures and chat with our curious and friendly Black Angus heifers, Eleni, Lola and Maggie and say hi to our horse Albe. All of the fencing at Willows Farm is electric to keep our cattle and horse in and you will get shocked if you touch it. Please be mindful of this with your pets and children. If you are fortunate enough to have the timing right, you can even watch an airplane take off and land on our farm grass strip — "Willows Landing", which is just to the north (cardinal direction) of the campsite. Just 30 minutes to Gettysburg battlefields, historical downtown Frederick, and many other exciting places for exploration, Willows Farm is a great location for fun! Spend an evening watching Bull riding and barrel racing at J Bar W Ranch just a few minutes down the street in Johnsville. If vineyards and breweries are your thing we are just 15 - 30 minutes from many fine establishments. A few of our favorites are Black Ankle Vineyards, Linganore Winecellars and Attaboy Beer. Antique shopping abounds in the nearby charming, little town of New Market. So you're hungry and have a hankering for local cuisine? Take a five minute drive to the quaint downtown of Union Bridge and visit one of the three delicious family run restaurants. We are within an hour of Gettysburg and within an hour and a half of DC if you're planning a day trip. We have a prime central location with close access to so many things to do. This beautiful property is nestled in a valley between Elk Ridge and South Mountain with incredible sunrises, sunsets and starlit night skies. Walk out to the fishing pond, or follow the trails around the pastures to meet the cattle grazing. We have Scottish Highlands and Black Angus grazing as well as Alpacas. We also have beautiful peacocks on the property. We are a working farm so expect to see tractors and you may even see us baling hay or tending to the cattle. You may smell some animal smells which we work at keeping to a minimum but again, we are a working farm. It’s a true farm experience. Also, please keep in mind that during warm weather you may encounter some bugs. Gnats and flies are always a possibility and of course at times they can be worse than others. That can always be a possibility when camping or being outdoors. Bring bug spray, citronella and anything else to help with insects. If you stay by the pond you may hear frogs which personally I enjoy hearing but some may not. Consider bringing a generator and run a fan if you think the sound might bother you or some way to block sounds. We enjoy talking to our guests so feel free to stop us for a chat. At the RV sites you have 30 and 50 amp power as well as water. All the water spickets are potable and drinkable.

Camps at Evensong Farm

Evensong Farm is a preserved historic farm adjacent to the Antietam National Battlefield. We have set up two, almost identical, sites on a 60 acre parcel of our farm which is very private for our campers, but allows access to the lovely Antietam Creek. The sites themselves are about 500 feet apart so, while they maintain privacy when booked by different parties, can also be booked together for group stays. We have been hosting campers at our "glampsites" since 2021. Each off-grid site has a 12x16 platform with a 10x12 canvas side wall tent, a firepit and chairs, a cooking area with a grill and sink for washing up, a picnic table and benches, and a private bathroom with a composting toilet and solar shower bag. The main tent is set up for 2 people, although 4 is possible. The sites can handle a max of 12 people, with the use of additional tents (BYO or you can set up some of ours). We provide an electronic camp guide to all of our campers that include our recommendations for things to do in the area, as well as camping tips and other handy info. Inside the tent you will find a queen size bed, side tables, and a cafe table and chair set. We have put down foam flooring and a carpet for your comfort and provide numerous battery powered lights, lanterns and fans. In cold months we can add a propane heater to keep the chill away. We also have some games, maps of the area, decks of cards, and a fire extinguisher. Stepping outside the tent you'll find our long rainfly creates a covered porch where you can relax on our provided chairs. There are additional chairs around the firepit and each firepit has a cooking grate so you can cook over your campfire. We provide one bundle of firewood (including kindling) per night with your reservation. We do sell additional firewood, if needed. In our kitchen area you will find a picnic table and chairs, 5 gallons of drinking water, a clean up table that includes a foot operated pump sink with an additional 5 gallons of washing water, a grill (one site has propane and the other has charcoal), trash and recycling bins, grill tools, lighters, plus dish and hand soaps. Our farm is a mile and a half from the town of Sharpsburg, MD, home of the Antietam National Battlefield (and Nutter's Ice Cream Shop). You will find the Appalachian Trail to our east and the C&O Canal to our west (10 minute drive to either).

For RV owners there is 50amp electric service in the barn. You will need an RV extension cord to access it. I have a 100 ft RV ext. cord but it can be farther than that depending on where you park. Bring one of your own to be sure. It is a farm and not set up like an RV park with numerous outlets.
