Highland cattle graze at the forest's edge on our Celtic-heritage farm: a gentle retreat with options for woodland wandering, farm-fresh breakfasts (weekdays only, must be requested one week in advance), and campfires complete with traditional Gaelic music! Our 40-acre farm includes heritage-breed animals, organic gardens, and over 30 acres of conservation woodlands. We favor scythes over tractors--your stay will be quiet and fume-free! Bradbury Mountain and several trail networks are nearby, along with rivers, ocean beaches, and an excellent locavore food scene. Since the early 1800s, this land on the edge of Chandler Brook has nourished bodies and spirits alike. Sloping pastures meet well-managed woodlands, making this a haven for both humans and wildlife. Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods. We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. This land is already better than we found it, but we hope it will remain a gathering-ground of culture and agriculture, tradition and innovation for generations to come.

Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River. We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage, a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout. Our lands have long been open to local hikers, bikers and cross country skiers, we are excited to share this beautiful property with a larger community. Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. Tire yourself by hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing the 10 miles of private trails.  Located across the river from Riverlands State Park, just minutes from Lewiston-Auburn, Bates College, local breweries and just 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Wildlife abounds both on the property and across the river at Androscoggin Riverlands State Park.Quite often, a gentle breeze off the water will offer relief from black flies and mosquitoes, but the right bug repellent is recommended especially to fend off those pesky ticks that are so common in Maine.

WELCOME to Happy Hippie Lane Maine! Get your "groove" on or hang loose here on a precious little island with a big bridge just off route one in the heart of Midcoast. Hundreds of guests report the perfect balance of upbeat fun and chill time and call our place and hospitality "magic", "amazing" and "holy guacamole!" It is a lovely spot just off the beaten path but close enough to access the frey. :) I welcome my guests personally and have likely had a chat before you booked. I like to know what your hopes and priorities are around your stay before I accept so I can meet both of our needs. When you arrive, I will greet you and share a little history/tour of the place. I accept travelers between 4 and 9 pm but like all of us schedules fluctuate and we can roll some. There's a strong chance on an average Maine clear summer evening, I have the campfire going and the solar lights around the yard are charged for their evening gentle show. All of the spaces I rent are bedrooms only. You walk a few steps/yards to my 5 bedroom home and access two showers and some kitchen use. I also have an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen that is cute and for your use. It's fun to cook on the fire too! I prefer folks to limit cooking esp in hot weather but support healthier eating and may share some of my foraging tips. The rooms are equipped with plenty of linens and fan power. You will be cozy either way the temps go. There is a lovely porch on the log home where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and lots of wildlife activity. The back yard has tether ball and lots of seating as well as the good sized fire pit with ghosts of hundreds of fireside chats gone by. I look forward to ours! Next door there is a gravel road on a lightly traveled road for your walking or biking pleasure. I am happy to join you in a hilly roller coaster cycling experience and have a few bikes to offer up. I am a WWOOF host and have occasional "helpers" and you are welcome to explore my veggie and flower gardens. This host loves board games and crafts so is often ready to share either or both with guests. There are 150 acres around me that are wooded and pathed so your pup will love it too. Reach out soon and let's chat about your vacation and visit here. I look forward to hearing from you.

It started years ago my sister and I stayed in a yurt at a campground in Oregon. That was it. I was hooked so I got one. There is something magical about staying in a round structure in the trees. My love of nature and comfort drove me to create this special place to be able to share it with others. My TreeYurt is a platform built high in the trees so it essentially like a treehouse but with a yurt instead. It is located in the back part of my property surrounded by woods. In the spring there is a small stream running nearby. The land is somewhat sloped yet comfortable. There are apple orchards nearby and many hiking trails a short distance away as well as Portland a mere 15 minutes. The kitchenette has a small fridge a toaster oven a coffee maker a cook top with two burners pots pans utensils plates and bowls and kitchen towels as well a propane grill outside. There is a wood stove for heating in the winter as well as a monitor heater that makes it very cozy for chilly nights. The yurt is insulated so it is a great year round glamping (glorified camping) adventure. I provide fire some wood for the wood stove inside but the camp fire wood for the outdoor fire pit is $5 per bundle. The outhouse has a dry flush toilet and instructions at located in the yurt and out house. There is seasonal running water (May through October) for the outdoor sink which is available for use for dishwashing and a bit of cleaning up. Also an outdoor shower is available for use May through October and biodegradable soaps and shampoo are provided. I provide gallons of drinking water and dishwashing water for the colder months inside the yurt with dish tubs sponges and soap.

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants. Family owned property obtained through the barter system. You shingle my barn and I'll give you that property. My Pappy's land. 11 acres. Recently cleared for its timber. With some landscaping it became clear that beautiful campsites were forming. My father is 78 years old. The last thing he ever thought he would be doing with his retirement is jumping back on his excavator. Can't keep a good man down. Now here we are. Father and daughter. One day my children. 3 large tent sites and two camper sites. Future cabin and seasonal RV sites. A brook runs through the property but dries up after June. There is a small pond with rock stairs. Deer and turkey are frequently seen. Peace and serenity. This property does not offer complete seclusion. You will see other campers if all 3 sites are occupied. There is spacious distance. What this location offers is that it is centrally located to mountains, oceans, lakes, concert venues, restaurants, nightlife, shopping and antiquing. Traveling to NH and Massachusetts is a day trip. A few hours and your in central Maine. Cross the border into Canada. So much to explore or just relax. Stay a few nights or stay the season. 2023 is off to a great camping season. Already meeting new campers. Hopefully I'll see some familiar faces from 2022. A few upgrades. There is an outside water faucet, an outlet and an outside shower...hot and a privacy fence. There is a bathroom/shed that contains a toilet. Goats are coming. Yes goats. Not until fall though. The frog pond population continues to grow. A neighboring town is finding 3 legged frogs in their ponds. Apparently caused by a parasite. Let me know if you find any. 2024 was another great season. New faces that I hope to see again. The summer weather was great for camping. A large Bell Tent and a small portable camper was purchased for those who are seeking more of a glamping experience. WELCOME BACK for 2026... 2025 had some complications unfortunately. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to invite anyone to my property. Consider yourself invited for the 2026 season. I look forward to hosting new and repeat campers. There is a free weekend offer for those who would like to camp and work to prepare for Memorial Day weekend. WELCOME ALL!!

Want a unique vacation? Everyone loves the idea of their own island. Peaceful, quiet and away from it all. In recent years we even have a nesting bald eagle pair! Our cottage is rustic, no running water and no electricity and only accessible via boat! We have a propane stove, refrigerator, and lanterns. Guests must bring water and small propane canisters for their stay. Guests are required to clean before departure. Bathroom is within the cottage and has an odor free composting toilet. For showering needs we have a camp style solar shower. Bedroom has a full-size bed. Crow's nest has a small futon that opens for an additional bed for one. The $375 fee is the cost of the boat captain to make one trip to deliver you and your gear to the island and one to take you back. If you will be coming in your own boat or kayak, please let us know and we can refund that fee if we aren't hiring the captain. Depending on the captain's schedule often arrival is the last trip of day and departure is 8 am. Additional trips can be arranged with our captains as well as sightseeing tours. Please note the captain charges $25 to transport a pet. We have a dock if you would be interested in bringing your own boat. Boat rentals also available nearby. Arrival and departure times are dependent on the captain's availability. See Bald eagles and seals. You can fish for striped bass right off the island. Water views from every window. The upper floor of the cottage is the Crow's nest (a tiny space accessible from a ladder below,) in the treetops with great sunset views. Bring your kayaks!

Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants. A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream! *NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock.

Crow Island was mentioned in the book "Rivers of Memory" by John Gibson To quote Rachel Field, “If once you have slept on an island. You’ll never quite be the same.”
