We took over this section of the land to create our own farm several years ago. We raise beef, pork, chicken, and goats to sell. We also have several horses on the farm. The camping spot has been used by our family for years hosting “back forty” parties and weekend getaways. The pond was dug by my grandfather over 40 years ago for irrigation. It is no longer used for that and has become a wonderful frog pond that is stocked with trout. Great synchronicity led us to the wild 30 acres of marsh and woodland that is Turtle Marsh. In addition to making a home here, we dedicating the area as a sanctuary for the quiet enjoyment of nature, eco-spiritual practices and healing. We are now recognized by the World Wildlife Fund as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. We have trails on the property that are designed for contemplative walks, along with several benches where you can sit in quiet enjoyment, undisturbed by human intrusions. There are several trailheads for the Hills to Sea Trail within a mile of our property. The quintessential New England waterfront town of Belfast on Penobscot Bay, is less than 30 minutes away. One of our favorite spots for quiet hikes along the shore of the bay, is Sears Island. It is one of the largest undeveloped islands on the east coast, that is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The island is 50 minutes away and even on the busiest summer days, its's usually possible to find a quiet spot on the shore to sit and reflect. As we continue to deepen our relationship with this land, we are trying to follow the principles of Deep Ecology in all of our interactions. Our tentsites, while only a 5 minute walk from the road, have been sited to offer as much solitude as possible, with minimal disruption to the surroundings. For 2025 we are opening a new site. It is a little more secluded, 2-3 minutes further from the road in a very quiet wooded niche, at the edge of the marsh. It is also a little smaller tent (10' diameter) situated on a platform, and a little more "camping" than "glamping". We are pricing the stay there according. In spite of being nestled in the woods, no trees were cut to prepare these relatively accessible sites. We believe that they still offer a very tangible sense of wildness and solitude. Learn more about this land: We are set high on the piney east bank of the Kennebec River. The view is of the setting sun over the untouched hillsides on the opposite bank or the rising sun illuminating and bringing to life that same hillside while you take your first peak of morning. The river rushes by, not a house to be seen. In the distance a loon frolics and sings out it's soulful call. Bald eagles soar over head, fishing, scanning the river valley. Owls hooting in the valley, come closer in the night to see who is still up. There is an echo in the darkness, works during the day too. The stars blaze overhead in the night sky, watch "satellites" track across heavens and the Aurora Borealis, if you are lucky and still up around the camp fire. It is here in front of our camp, where The Kennebec River continues to flow but begins slowing down, stacking up depth behind the Moscow Dam and turning into Wyman Lake, 14 miles of the most scenic boating or paddling you can imagine. 200 yards north of the camp, The Appalachian Trail crosses the river, watch hikers waiting for the famous canoe ferry crossing. Or, hike a section of the trail, Pierce Pond is a healthy 2 hr hike from the camp, to a pristine pond for a remote dip or some fishing. Bring that kayak or stand up paddle board, the river is fun right here, explore for an hour, a day or days. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing are huge in West Forks, (10 minutes North up 201, watch out for deer and moose) you'll paddle The Dead, The Kennebec and the Penobscot rivers, all the major tour companies are very local and there are cool bars and restaurants. You can tube down from the Forks right to the cabin in a couple of hours. We have a big high and dry platform for your tent and the whole space all to yourselves.

I had a great time staying at howling goat farm, I personally like the farm atmosphere and all the sounds that go with it! The camping spot was clean and level and has the standard fire ring and I believe an 8 foot long picnic table. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and stay a while in the future.

Weekend Trip to Trees of Life Retreat (ToLR)

My pup and I had a great time at ToLR. We had a hilarious greeting of turkeys and hens and then about 100 yards then to the right and we were there! The happy birds were a highlight each morning, the nuthatches were busy. The trails behind the woodshed were lovely and quiet. The cabin was so clean and so thoughtfully done. We didn’t want to leave and will for sure be back. Such a lovely and peaceful place.

7 nights at Turtle Marsh- secluded wooded site.

Really unique and amazing stay, can't recommend this place enough! Learned about three medicinal mushrooms that grow on the property through the walks with Peter and Willie. Some neat evidence of beaver activity was spotted as well. You can hear barn owls in the evening. If you did get any rain or wind while there it's rather pleasant. Was nice to know if you do need anything the cabin and Peter were a short walk away. I even got Peters book which I can't wait to read!

Weekend Trip to The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House

I had the BEST two nights staying at the Bird’s Nest! It was so beautiful and cozy. The weather held out long enough to enjoy walking through the trails on the property, and building a fire in the wood stove was perfect for the rainy and chilly evening. Lisa is a wonderful host and put so much thought into everything one might need while staying here. I hope to be back again soon!

This was a sweet place to stay. Krystal was a wonderful host and I enjoyed spending time around her horses and pups. The place was very close to lots of great hiking and a short way to Lincolnville Beach. I would definitely recommend!

Weekend Trip to Howling Goat Farm and Grange

While I didn't personally get to enjoy my overnight stay here due to unforeseen circumstances with my car, Ashley was responsive and also very helpful with my campsite. I was able to get in without any issues, as the instructions were very clear. When my car broke down on the way to a hike after I had set up my campsite, Ashley was willing tear everything down and store it off to the side for me. I am very grateful that there are still good people in the world, and just based on this experience with Ashley, I would highly recommend staying here!

My fiance and I loved our stay and were sad to leave. Very peaceful and relaxing, exactly what we needed. Took the canoe out a couple of times. Saw tons of eagles, a nest, and a deer crossing the river. The view was beautiful and the stars were so bright! Very easy to find and in a great location. Would recommend to anyone and would stay again. Thank you Erik!

What an awesome spot! The Birds Nest doesn’t disappoint. The Nest sits on the same property as the owner but it’s far enough away that you can’t even see anything. Such a magical little cabin with an awesome wood stove that will keep you more than cozy. Everything was nice and clean/tidy….the outhouse was the same. Amazing location for hiking. World class fly fishing in the Carrabassett River not far away. Me and the ole girl and I can’t wait to come back!!

Weekend Trip to Cabin of the Woods at Tilden Pond

Robert's cabin at Tilden Pond is a wonderfully secluded get away spot with a beautiful woods walk (15mins) to the pond. We were happy about being able to park next to the cabin for easy unloading of gear. We liked making meals over a camp stove we brought and at the fire pit to calls of loons and owls. We brought our own tent but opted to stay in the cabin on the cots provided, which were comfortable with our sleeping pads and bags. Our dog loved having the woods to romp in unleashed. The sunset at the pond was a highlight. On a future trip we hope to take advantage of the double kayak. We saw others kayaking, sailing, and fishing off in the distance. Robert has done a good job repairing the road recently but it is important to have a truck or vehicle with good clearance to drive in. We loved having both Belfast and Camden only minutes away.

Weekend Trip to Back Forty Camping at its best

Amazing spot! This was one of our best Hipcamp experiences. Quiet, private spot with amazing sunrise views. Cory was very communicative and gave great directions. The site is located back from the road and working farm so you feel remote. There are tons of amenities in the area, and it was a great place to explore Moosehead and the Belgrade areas. We can’t wait to return.

I only stayed one night, but it was absolutely terrific. The spot is beautiful, peaceful, and really well cared for. You can tell Leketa and Hillary put a lot of thought into the small touches — it made all the difference. I’m so happy I got to experience it, even briefly, and I’ll definitely make the time to come back someday.

1 night at Magnificent View Blueberry Hilltop

Beautiful private place with a 360 view of the mountains! Completely impressed by the stone picnic table! The turn is a bit hidden so drive very slowly — we reached the top of the mountain and had to turn around because we went too far. I think the sign is a little hidden within the bushes. Otherwise, such a lovely stay! Would return!

New deck in 2022 and inviting Adirondack chairs make for a pleasant stay.

Lisa was amazing about communicating before and during my trip. She was also super helpful on directing me to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Brid's Nest was exactly as described, and. a fun cabin to stay in. It is a little bit of a walk up to the cabin, but there is a wagon to help load up your suitcases. Sunrise through the trees the next morning was absolutely beautiful along with my drive to my next destination. If you don't mind glamping without the extra fluff, I recommend staying here!
