Learn more about this land: We are set high on the piney east bank of the Kennebec River. The view is of the setting sun over the untouched hillsides on the opposite bank or the rising sun illuminating and bringing to life that same hillside while you take your first peak of morning. It is here in front of our camp, where The Kennebec River continues to flow but begins slowing down, stacking up depth behind the Moscow Dam and turning into Wyman Lake, 14 miles of the most scenic boating or paddling you can imagine. 200 yards north of the camp, The Appalachian Trail crosses the river, watch hikers waiting for the famous canoe ferry crossing. Or, hike a section of the trail, Pierce Pond is a healthy 2 hr hike from the camp, to a pristine pond for a remote dip or some fishing. Bring that kayak or stand up paddle board, the river is fun right here, explore for an hour, a day or days. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing are huge in West Forks, (10 minutes North up 201, watch out for deer and moose) you'll paddle The Dead, The Kennebec and the Penobscot rivers, all the major tour companies are very local and there are cool bars and restaurants. You can tube down from the Forks right to the cabin in a couple of hours. We have a big high and dry platform for your tent and the whole space all to yourselves.

Well behaved dogs/pets are allowed on the site for $7 per pet per night. If you would like to bring a pet, please add a pet fee which is listed as an extra during the booking process. All pets on site must be leashed at all times, no exceptions. Campfires are allowed on this site when winds are under 10 mph. Check local weather first. We continue to provide free, locally grown, organic firewood in order to combat inflation and help you stretch your vacation dollar. While Ellie's doesn't have direct water access, there are many shoreline points of access close by. Beaches and water access are everywhere. Wide open space does exist. Come explore the Maine coast. Commuter traffic can be seen and heard from Ellie's RV spot. State route 204 funnels park visitors to Acadia and the MDI area. In 2024 nearly 4 million people visited the Acadia area. Slow down, plan ahead and be patient. 2025 update: You can purchase your park pass online and print it before you arrive. Reservations for Cadillac Mountain are now required due to overcrowding. I had a nice stay here. The privy was clean and it's only 30-40 minute drive from Bangor. The sites are on a slight grade of a hill but it isn't that bad and they each have a fire ring and picnic table with a trash can.

Weekend Trip to The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House

I had the BEST two nights staying at the Bird’s Nest! It was so beautiful and cozy. The weather held out long enough to enjoy walking through the trails on the property, and building a fire in the wood stove was perfect for the rainy and chilly evening. Lisa is a wonderful host and put so much thought into everything one might need while staying here. I hope to be back again soon!

My fiance and I loved our stay and were sad to leave. Very peaceful and relaxing, exactly what we needed. Took the canoe out a couple of times. Saw tons of eagles, a nest, and a deer crossing the river. The view was beautiful and the stars were so bright! Very easy to find and in a great location. What an awesome spot! The Birds Nest doesn’t disappoint. The Nest sits on the same property as the owner but it’s far enough away that you can’t even see anything. Such a magical little cabin with an awesome wood stove that will keep you more than cozy. Everything was nice and clean/tidy….the outhouse was the same. Amazing location for hiking. World class fly fishing in the Carrabassett River not far away. Me and the ole girl and I can’t wait to come back!!

You go for the wide open space and the great view! The site is no more than a port a potty, fire ring, and picnic table, AND it was perfect. It’s very private, quiet, and more than spacious. If fresh air and solitude is your vibe, this is the place for you. The host was in contact shortly reservation and the directions from the host get you where you need to be. I’d stay again.

Beautiful private place with a 360 view of the mountains! Completely impressed by the stone picnic table! The turn is a bit hidden so drive very slowly — we reached the top of the mountain and had to turn around because we went too far. I think the sign is a little hidden within the bushes. Otherwise, such a lovely stay! Would return!

New deck in 2022 and inviting Adirondack chairs make for a pleasant stay.

Lisa was amazing about communicating before and during my trip. She was also super helpful on directing me to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Brid's Nest was exactly as described, and. a fun cabin to stay in. It is a little bit of a walk up to the cabin, but there is a wagon to help load up your suitcases. Sunrise through the trees the next morning was absolutely beautiful along with my drive to my next destination. If you don't mind glamping without the extra fluff, I recommend staying here!

A great place to do nothing. But if you must do, there’s plenty to do. The privacy and expansive views are hard to beat. And — while maples and oaks get all of the attention in autumn — blueberry barren fall foliage is hard to beat. You’re surrounded by scarlet waves. The site itself has everything you need: porta potty, fire pit, picnic table, privacy. You’re about an hour and change outside of Acadia NP if you wanted to do a day trip. There are some nice trails on the quiet side by Long Pond. Closer to the site, the Barred Island Preserve trail is one of my favorites. Or grab a coffee at 44 North then head to Sand Beach in Stonington. Food, Drink, Etc: Tinder Hearth, 44 North Coffee, Bucklyn Coffee, Blue Hill Books, Blue Hill Wine Shoo, Blue Hill Co-Op, Brooklin Inn, Brooklin General Store, Pilgrim’s Inn, Roaring Lion, El El Frijoles. Overall would definitely recommend!
