Magical Mountain River retreat

3 sites · Tents500 acres · Rumford, ME
Scars in the polished granite streambed tell the story of saw mills from the 19th century. Not far from the foundation of one of the more established farmsteads of the era, this campsite is tucked away from the road down by the rushing Bull Branch of the Sunday River. Whether you bake on the rocks after dipping, or toss a fly in a quiet pool, the river will soothe your soul. Explore endless mountains streams, trails to the Appalachian Trail, and remote dirt roads in the heart of the Mahoosucs from your secluded walk-in low impact tent site with privy. Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. There are three sites: #1: Riverside (more secluded),#2:Hillside(closest to the parking), and #3: Fireside. The hillside and fireside sites can combine for a group although are at a short distance from each other. If weather conditions permit, all campers can share the fire circle and table. The Riverside has its own table.

The sink can be used with a bucket underneath. Bring extra water for washing. I will leave a couple of gallons to get you started! -Really big storms can cause reservations to sometimes be rescheduled but I always honor date changes or refunds due to storms. -Extreme Cold Weather: When temperatures fall to 15 degrees or below, we recommend that you use the propane heater in the bunk room along with the woodstove in the great room. It will be necessary for you to feed the wood stove every couple of hours. -Attention Snowmobilers: You may have to unload your snowmobiles at the bottom of the hill to get your trucks up the hill with trailers hitched. You could also leave your trailers at the bottom of the hill in a plowed out parking area. Ride the snowmobiles up separately. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: Off the grid = NO ELECTRICITY! Phone: Reliable cell phone service is 1 mile down the mountain in the spring and summer. Spotty service is available at the cabin during winter. Hydration: You MUST bring your own drinking water to be absolutely safe. The dug well is fed by springs and runoff. Dug wells can be contaminated by heavy rains, and wildlife. Drinking the well water is at your own risk. Bugs: This is mosquito and tick country. Use bug spray and do tick checks twice a day during spring, summer and fall. Pets: Dogs are welcome. PLEASE do not leave dogs unattended and alone in the cabin. Please toss poop into the woods. Smoking: Cigarette smoking is allowed OUTSIDE the cabin. Cannabis smoking is allowed inside the cabin. Trash: It would be appreciated if you took your own trash, but if that is not possible, you may leave all of your food garbage and trash in the cabin at check-out and we will dispose of it for you. We request that food garbage or food scraps are NEVER left outside. Wildlife: Please do not feed the bears or any other wildlife, including birds, squirrels, fox, deer, coyote or anything you may see here at Ridgeview Cabin. Feeding wildlife results in a negative impact on the lives and environment of the animals, including possible death or extermination of the animals, and presents a potential risk to your safety. Feeding animals means intentionally leaving food out for them, or even simply leaving a bag of garbage outside where animals can get into it. This means that taking care of your food garbage is extremely important. You are welcome to use the garbage bags found in the cabin. If you must remove food garbage from the cabin, please store it in your vehicle until check-out. Never store trash or food scraps outside. Keep it down for the locals: There are year round residents uphill and downhill of the cabin within half a mile. Please be respectful of their quality of life and refrain from long sessions of target practice, aggressive snowmobile/4-wheeler riding around the cabin/up and down the road, yelling and loud music after 8PM and before 8AM.

Decker's Happy Hollow

2 sites · RVs10 acres · Wilton, ME
My husband, Bob, and I purchased the old farm in 1996.  We had plans, life got in the way...now, we want to share the beauty of this peaceful haven with others, so that they too, can come, be refreshed away from the commercialism and hubbub of life. Our property is on a dead end road, and we are near the end of it.  Our neighbor to the left is a small sugar shack and during the sugaring season, the smell of a wood-fire and sap boiling off fill the air.  Our nearest neighbor to the right, can barely be seen when the trees are in leaf, and our neighbors across the road are set back away from the road, a retired couple...friendly but hardly ever seen. While we are in this quiet little hollow surrounded by hill covered trees, we are just five miles from the local department stores, town, and access to the Routes 2 & 4 highway.  In Maine, the saying is: 'You can't get there from here'.  Well, you can, but looking around you, you won't want to.  It is a retreat from the cares and troubles that perplex, a haven where the stream winds through and rests your soul.On our 10+/- acres, we could put many camp sites, but in order to give you the quiet and peace we enjoy, we are only putting in 5 sites so you can spread out, enjoy, relax and unwind. We hope you enjoy our little place.  We hope you find rest to your heart here.  Blessings to you and thank you for booking our Decker's Happy Hollow for your vacation.  Learn more about this land:Rustic open field backed with hillside 'sugar bush'. Maple sap house to the left (in view but not too close to camping) Stream behind the sites, with slope down to it.

Spotted Soul Farm dogs welcome!

1 site · RV, Tent70 acres · Norway, ME
We (me and my dogs) moved up here from Boston last year and are enjoying all the sounds of nature, woods walks and mountain views and we hope you will too! Learn more about this land: The 10 acre field is open, partially mowed & offers apples in the fall! The view of the mountain is really nice. Enjoy the fire pit or walk through the 60 acres of woods.  Please note, my house is located on the road, in the front corner of the field.  It is possible to camp in the field a spot such that you do not have to see my house.  You can also camp just behind the field in maple trees (there's a clear path).  The other option is to walk into the back back woods and fashion yourself a place to camp if you are feeling a bit more rugged / adventurous - there are paths but they are not newly installed / groomed (originally created for logging activities a long time ago so - rugged).  There's a brook at the far side of my property which goes all along the back edge. Nearby Norway Lake is great for swimming, boating, kayaking, etc (public boat launch is an easy drive). This is a great place for road running as well (or road biking if you can handle the hills).  Note that the field is a field; there's no road laid in.  I can drive into fine in my Sienna but if you have a really low car you might have to walk it. This is rustic camping!  There's no electricity or running water.  I can provide a 5 gal jug of spring water for drinking / fire dousing (please let me know in advance if you will need this so I can go to the spring).  If you are not self contained in terms of bathroom, you are welcome to use my guest bath inside (just have to text me) You should have full cell signal in the middle of the field and in the high points in the back woods (but definitely it drops out in the lower points).  There is a barn that is occasionally available for eating / camping; there is electricity & wifi in there as well as lights and tables.  There's an extra charge for this & please inquire about availability.    Also, very dog friendly - please bring your dogs! Let me know if you'd like me to leave some snow fencing out for you to fashion a bit of an enclosed area. I have some agility equipment & all kinds of mushing equipment if your pup might be interested.  Happy to do mini demos / lessons for a small extra fee.  I have a spare GPS set up that can be rented while you are onsite.  Can also offer dog sitting if you want to go out to dinner / etc and not bring your pup.
