16. Nickell Ridge Homestead

45mi from Carlisle · 1 site · Lodging · Campton, KY
Nestled among the rolling Appalachian foothills, Nickel Ridge Homestead is a place where simplicity, sustainability, and soulful living meet. This working homestead reflects a deep respect for the land and the rhythms of nature, blending off-grid practicality with rustic comfort. At Nickel Ridge, guests and residents experience a slower, more intentional way of life. The property features hand-built structures crafted from reclaimed and local materials, productive gardens, walking trails through wildflower meadows, and scenic overlooks that showcase the ridge’s namesake views. Every element is designed to harmonize with the natural landscape rather than compete with it. Nickel Ridge Homestead serves as both a living classroom and a peaceful retreat—a place for workshops, sustainable living demonstrations, and community gatherings focused on connection, creativity, and conservation. Whether tending the garden, learning traditional skills, or simply watching the sunset over the ridge, visitors are invited to rediscover what it means to live lightly and intentionally on the earth.
