THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. This was such a peaceful spot — I had the whole place to myself! Communication with the host was quick and easy, and they were very helpful. I’d definitely recommend arriving during the day, as the driveway can be a little tricky to spot at night and it’s fairly steep. Once settled in, we had a wonderful time by the river and enjoyed the gorgeous fall colors. Highly recommend!

Georgous place! Perfect place to relax and unwind. We stayed here in October and enjoyed the fall colors on the Ohio River which were beautiful. The sites are perfect for boat and barge watching. Randy is super. He was attentive to all our needs. This is my new favorite campground. We will be back.

We had a great time at RockyTop. The highlights for my kids(8 & 22) were Oreo, the pig, the dogs and fishing. It was mostly a very quiet stay. The only thing I would say is only 1 person could fish at a time but we were told that was a project they were tackling soon. Also, youre closer to the house than we thought we'd be but that didnt bother us at all. All in all, we would stay here again.

Weekend Trip to A Notch Above-RV Riverside Campsite

We had an amazing time at A Notch Above. It was us and our friends at the site next to us. It was perfect for buddy camping. We had sites 2 and 3. Our campers faced the river and ir was a beautiful view. We were fortunate enough to see multiple bald eagles and many other birds. Watching the different barges and boats mo e up and down the river was another nice thing about camping at Randy's place. Randy is a very nice, helpful host. I would definitely recommend A Notch Above if you are looking for scenic views and relaxation.

What a great location and beautiful site. The entrance looks tricky but worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the river, bardges, bald eagles and looking at the stars. Some things to note the road behind you is close and there is some road noise but it didn't bother us. There is a porta potty on site in the middle but it was clean and did not smell. Randy was available when needed and even checked in to make sure we arrived ok. Will return

The site was very level and spacious. The firepit was located right by the river. We sat there every night with a fire and watched the barges go by. My only negative was the septic hookup. I have never delt with one that was sideways out of the ground. It backed up and leaked gray tank water all over so I was not able to completely empty my tank.

Really awesome sight, it is very country camping. The animals were my one of my favorite things, but if you don't like the smell or droppings of barnyard animals then I would not recommend. The light pollution at night time is was very low when I visited so the stars were very visible and also a highlight for me. Steven was a very nice host and was very open to finding ways to better people's stay. If I had to rack my brain for any complaints it would be maybe adding one or two more porta johns. They were cleaned daily but sometimes had a wait in the mornings as there were a good amount of people saying. 9/10 experience, I will be back for a second stay!

The property is gorgeous, and I had such a good time. Jared and his family are wonderful and kind hosts, and they checked in on me after a bad storm in the middle of the night. I know tent campers have complained about noise during the night, but I had no issues at all. There is accessible water and electricity, and I had service the whole time. I highly recommend staying here.

My husband, myself, and our adult son went camping at Hones point campground. We had a blast. Loved the free roaming animals. The campground was well kept and Steve was great. Hiking trails are super nice. We will definitely camp there again.
