This is a delightful place to be if your searching for that farm experience! Come visit for a night or stay a few days I’ve been told by many of my visitors that they want to live here! Warning if you are not fond of animals or if you are allergic to cats or dogs this probably isn’t a good choice for you. The Legend of Possum Hill is an old one. Most likely named thus even before the settlers arived in St. Louis. Before the great expansion west and before the Gateway Arch graced the sky. Wild was the west and animals roamed at will never having seen a man. The acient Indian tribe of Cahokia once had its own travelers who left their mounded cities of pyramids to explore and hunt for new adventure. It was on one of these travels a great storm arose from the spring sky bringing ice down from the heavens. The Indian party was hard pressed to find shelter from such turbulent winds, rain and it was even claimed they witnessed some snow blended in as well well! This particular spring the waters had risen quite high . With this latest storm the creeks and rivers were rushing over their banks. The Indians knew they had to find high ground. They knew they would only be safe in a shelter high enough the raging waters could not breach. Just when they were giving up hope for a suitable place they passed through a low lands grove treading through ankle deep waters when the land started to rise. And rise it did! Up they went up a steep climb and as they crested they found a large grove of hickories, Sycamore and Oak trees. The Indians prized such trees for their strong hard wood and towering hight. They found safety within them and upon chance several hollows in the ancient trees and quickly sheltered themselves in pairs. They weathered until the suns golden rays stretched accross the small pond. In one hollow a young Indian stirred and and he and his companion left their shelter. Reaching back into the tree they grabbed their packs and found hidden behind them, a family of possums who also hIad hid from the storm. Upon return to Cahokia the young Indian told of their travels and remembering the sheltering family of marsupials, he named the place in their honnor because they shared their shelter. And that is the Legend of Possum Hill.Learn more about this land:4 acres with scattered hickory and oak trees with a small fruit orchard in front of an acre size pond. There are 20.11 acres of farm life to share with you.

Some of the things you will experience and see are: volunteers helping out;
horses, mules, donkeys, chickens, ducks, geese, turkey, goats, llama, and many others.

I scored a mid-week “Reflection Ridge” campsite reservation and had a night to remember. From Katie’s escort to the spot, pointing out the fresh baby geese swimming in the lake, to my secluded, pristine campsite with a gorgeous view of the water. Couldn't have asked for a better response. The site is absolutely beautiful overlooking the lake. Would recommend for a nice relaxing weekend!

Very peaceful. They provide wood for that campfire which was extremely helpful as our stove was dead in the RV, so we had to use it for cooking. Wonderful place to camp.
Met the owner and she mentioned they do several events for veterans groups including the coming weekend. As a former Marine it was great to hear.

We had a very nice stay! We ordered wood and they delivered it right to the firepit. The pond was gorgeous and there were birds everywhere! We were on our way to the Cahokia Mounds and loved that this happened to be a related historical place to stop before that visit. Thank you for sharing your home.

We camped with our 2 toddlers, our newborn and our dog. We had plenty of room, we're not close to people, and the kids had plenty to keep them occupied. The accommodations were actually top notch. They had a pristine bathroom that was heated and had a clean shower and even a changing table. They also have a place to charge your phone which we used as a place to plug in our bottle warmer.
If I had to make any complaints, it would be our site wasn't mowed recently, but that didn't change the fun or the experience. I definitely recommend this place with kids ❤️

Loved the property and the safeness we all felt. My children loved it and had a great time. Site 4 is not a drive up site you will have a short walk to it. It is definitely worth it!! You are surrounded by trees on both sides and you get a perfect view of the pond. Karmen and her family are super welcoming and accommodating. We will definitely be back in the summer!! All in all just be respectful and you will receive the same.

The hosts were friendly, accommodating and very responsive to messages. The fresh eggs were great!
We stayed at Site 1 which was close to the shared driveway, but was lined by shrubs for privacy. It also had a fire pit.
We were there in mid March, so there weren't a lot of other people around, but the sites seemed spacious.
The best part - the wildlife on the pond was out in full force and it made for some great ambient sleeping noise!!
Easy drive to the Mississippi River and the St. Louis area. If you're driving back to the camp after sunset just know it's going to be DARK and it might be a little tricky to see your turns. Not a down side at all, just something to think about if you're not used to that ;-)

Peacetree Farms was full of spectacular views. We took the canoe around the lake for a few hours, walked the maintained trails on property, and enjoyed listening to the song birds all weekend.
Katie was wonderful, helped me get to the site after a late arrival, provided firewood, picnic benches and flat land to set up on.
Fantastic trip will be back again to see how everything flushes out in summer!

Tent sites were great. Flat and spread out enough. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Had 2 carts to use to bring our gear to site 4. These were super helpful and it was not a far walk from the parking area. Small hill you have to go down and small hill you have to go up. But again, easy to manage. Road near the sites had very little traffic and did not bother us at all.
We went across the street and back up the road we came in on and played in a nice creek.
Only issue we ran into is a dog without a collar came and was friendly at first but then became bothersome when it kept jumping on our picnic table to try to eat our food. It also got aggressive with our dog. We contacted the host. They said they called the neighbor who lives the property over and let them know. It is their dog. However he said out here in the country a lot of people let their dog run free. The dog returned the next day. We were able to shew it away. It never got aggressive with us or our young kids.
Overall would return. Would love to check out the short hiking trails.

The Watkins cabin is such a special, peaceful place. And so secluded, with woods and beautifully maintained trails at your cabin door. The pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful the landscape around the cabin is— gorgeous! This is an ideal location for experiencing the outdoors, while still sleeping indoors with a bathroom. Cabin’s heat worked great, and it had everything we needed. My son asked if we could come back next week!

Many of the reviews detail the available activities, all of which are worth taking advantage of, but what I find most compelling is when a host makes sure basic needs are met. Many of the tent sites you find on Hipcamp are open fields, peppered with picnic tables and fire rings, but PeaceTree's sites are carefully chosen and tailored to a camper's needs.
The property is very hilly as one would expect being nestled between the Northern Prairies and the Ozark Foothills, but each site is level, well protected with trees, and a short walk from the nearest porta-potty. A chilly night with an intense hail storm meant a warm campfire was a necessity. While there was plenty of dead wood lying on the ground, a full load of cut firewood was delivered to us shortly after we arrived.
Most of the places you find on Hipcamp provide a place to rest and have a few unique quirks, but there are very few rare exceptions like PeaceTree Farms that is such a magical place that hosts like Katie and her family can't help but share it with a community that has a voracious appetite for breathtaking views, thrilling activities, and one-of-a-kind nature experiences. We were just passing through Northeast Missouri on the last night of a roadtrip, looking for nothing more than a level pad and a fire ring, and were fortunate to have stumbled upon PeaceTree Farms. We arrived with few expectations and left our only regret being that we could not spend at least a week to take in the full experience.
