These campsites are located along the lower half of our property and are tucked into fun little sites bordering our off road trail built for Jeeps, Broncos, and other similar off road vehicles. These are primitive style sites and cell phones likely will not work on any of our sites. This is truly a way to get away and just disconnect for a while! There is a VERY steep entrance into the camping area and a small water crossing is also necessary. Low clearance vehicles, cars, campers/trailers, and RV's will not be able to access the zone. If you'd like to camp at one of our sites and have a vehicle that won't qualify -- we do have friendlier parking but it will require quite a hike to get to your site or we can offer you a ride as well.

Open early this year Feb 19th through Sept 30th (extended due to nice weather so if you can book it. You can stay.) The end of the season this year will be on or about September 30th (but if we say open on the site after feel free to book). And then we will be closed for the winter until on or about May first (again if open you can book before this date); Unless otherwise specified. Usually closed for the winter months. Sugar Grove Family Fun Center up the road. Goat Yoga and Wholly Bean Coffee close by. Local forest preserve has toilets (within driving distance and use while open before sundown) or bring your own porti-john (I find a bucket and a garbage bag do wonders). Camp with your dogs and horses!! Animals welcome (trails at the local preserve). Set up a temp spot for them with owner permission. We have the space. There is riding at the forest preserve right around the corner and a local farm spot where you can call and pet horses. We have a swing set and small child play sets. A trampoline. A hammock. Y’all are more than welcome to use it. Just be respectful and make sure your children do not harm our land, animals, gardens, or themselves. 💕🙏 Again offering substantial fire wood bundles for 7 dollars a bundle. New egg and farm stand added this year. Two new picnic tables added. Well water available upon request for those that have travel tanks to refill (ask the owner and schedule a time to use the hose).

Fin and Feather is a rustic campground located right on the banks of the Mississippi River backwaters, known for its true “camping in nature” experience. Every site looks out over the water with a beautiful sunset view! These primitive sites are large, shaded, and hammock-friendly.
The ground is sandy, but the beach is not known as a swimming location. Fin and Feather sits where Big Slough of the Mississippi River meets Spring Lake, part of the Upper Mississippi River Refuge.
The Great River Bike Trail runs parallel to the campground. We offer canoe and kayak rentals (message us to arrange a rental in advance of stay) and the lake is an great place to paddle but be aware there is a lot of plant life in backwaters (closes to all boat traffic on October 1st as part of the wildlife refuge during hunting season). Firewood is available for purchase.
It's is a work in progress as we renovate this beautiful campground. We only have a few sites listed currently. The camp store has limited hours but nearby towns of Thomson and Savanna offer additional supplies. There’s so much to do in the area, such as hiking at Mississippi Palasades State Park, "troll hunting" in Clinton, IA, shopping in Fulton or Galena etc but with the peacefulness of the campground, you may just want to relax and enjoy the view!
We are a small privately owned campground. The grounds are separated into two regions. as you enter the property off off Riverview Road, there is a "T" intersection. As Hipcampers, you will turn right. The north side of the campground is for Hipcamp drop in camping only; tents and small campers like teardrops etc exclusively. (The south end of the campground is for our seasonal campers with bigger Rvs.) You will turn right and drive past the small camp store, a vintage trailer we are renovating and one Rv that is ours. The beach sites listed here on Hipcamp will be on the left along the shore line. We offer well maintained port a potties and there are water spigots on property as well. There is no power or water at the sites,
*while is says maximum capacity 4, if you are a family with more kids please submit a specific request. We can make exceptions for families camping with their children.

There was a ton of firewood available that was covered which was an added bonus since it rained heavily the night before. Easy to find with a great host! I loved my stay at the retreat center. The grounds are well kept and the facilities are clean and spacious. I hammock camped with ease at the front of the property near the RV sites. This is not a ‘private’ stay but the amenities are great! I walked the perimeter of the property and harvested berries to eat. Yum! Staff members met me with a welcome package that included treats and information. There is a screen enclosed game room stocked with ping pong and many board games that I would have totally used had I not been on a solo trip :) and I saw others out on the basketball court shooting a few hoops for fun.
The owner (I am SO bad with names) stopped by to chat in the morning and I mentioned how I love a good fire in the evenings. Later, when I returned from my days excursion there was firewood sitting at my site. I stayed for two nights and was sad to leave. So peaceful. I will definitely return to this camp when in the area again. ❤️

Danika is a wonderful host. The site was great - right in the beach. I rented a kayak and spent the afternoon on the slough. There is a port a potty and firewood for purchase. Danika recommended a great restaurant, Molly’s (best Brussels sprouts ever).

Just FYI, we were not at the river side site, which turned out to be best! Katie is a wonderful host and made sure to let us know about the flood potential and rain (which we expected). Driving home we saw how high the IL river was and knew we all made the best choice.
Saying that, the site closer to her house by the creek is also amazing-falling asleep to the sound of the creek and then we had rain, was the perfect place for the night. We can’t wait to come back and check out the river site.

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! The site itself was absolutely beautiful, located right on the water with breathtaking views and incredible sunsets. The peaceful atmosphere and waterfront location made it the perfect place to relax and unwind. On top of that, the owners were kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our entire stay. Danika was a wonderful host! Super communicative and had wonderful suggestions. Fire wood on site burned well. We visited early June so there were lots of frogs and some turtles. Given the sites are off the Mississippi bug spray is a must.
