I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. There is a parking area for guests' cars. The paths on property are well-lit, so there's no need to worry if you arrive in the evening. Another great trip to the Cove! For anyone who comes right after us, we set up your first fire logs in the firepit. We brought our own firewood but you’ll find enough logs in the wood crib to do about two fires, plus the giant stumps that are great to prolong the fire if you can get one going. George also has a bale of pine straw in there which is super helpful to get a fire started. My whole review is about fires, can you tell it was cold while we were there haha! Saw several deer and hawks. Lots of stars and quiet.

We had a great stay at Hertzen Platz. The tent was very spacious and as comfortable as the photos and previous guests conveyed. Gary was a welcoming host who clearly cares about the land and delivering a top-notch experience, breakfast was awesome as well!

Weekend Trip to Tumble Down Shack

Richie was a great host and the shack was cute. The land is just uphill of the host's main house. You don't have to worry about the shared property because he respects your privacy. He said hello to us when we arrived and then we saw him again just before we checked out. It rained each night we stayed here and the shack kept us warm and dry.

You are definitely in the mountains now! shelter is hand crafted from all rough sawn locally sourced wood from the site or from Fannin County forests.

4 nights at Creekside Cabin at Lake Hartwell

I have to say, this was hands-down the best organized, cleanest, easiest, most amenity-laden cabin I’ve ever rented. So many details, from the embroidered robes to the bound book of instructions and recommendations. From the kitchen appointments to the coffee. There are really too many amazing little things to list here, but you could really tell the owners absolutely care about the experience their property provides. And we went panning for gold in the creek below the back deck and even found a little! It was incredibly comfortable and lots of fun. Just make sure you’re ok with stairs and aren’t too large to fit the spiral to the loft. I honestly cannot think of a single improvement to make. Didn’t even matter that it rained so much, because there was plenty left to do inside.

This is such a gorgeous and relaxing spot. The cabin is clean and roomy and the outhouse is pretty nice lol! One of the best parts is that the dogs got to be off leash around the site. It was a perfect way to spend a few chilly October night. We had everything we needed: a fire pit to keep warm, cozy blankets in the cabin, and forest sounds to keep us company. I highly recommend giving this spot a try. George is a phenomenal host who was available immediately when I called him with a question. 10/10 would come back!!

Our stay at Hertzen Platz was absolutely wonderful! The host was warm and welcoming, making sure everything was perfect from start to finish. My husband and I absolutely loved our trip here. They had all the essentials! It was very relaxing and peaceful. The only complaint is that the top windows are not as clean as shown in the pictures, so its hard to see at night the night sky as clearly. They had a hot plate, which I used for meals, microwave and little airfryer/toaster, large fridge, washer and dryer.

Glamping in the dome was overall really great! We loved waking up to the beautiful views out of the big window. Highly recommend. We only had issues with a few things. The windows were really dirty, river access isn't as direct as we thought from the listing and we had a late check out arranged, then 45 mins before 11, we were told we couldn't check out late. Disappointed in those things but overall still a really good stay.
