During your stay you will be able to see many exotic, and domestic animals. We also have at the sanctuary, and work with many critically endangered animals like the New Guinea Singing dog. We opened to the public on Labor Day 2014. Most people come to stay either in our rental cottage or in their horse trailers/RVs with their horses to ride the awesome trails in the 20,000+ acre adjacent Croom Forest. However, because our ranch is so peaceful, many stay here without horses just to enjoy the peace and quiet. There are many opportunities to recreate in the area, including outstanding mountain and road biking, OHVing, hiking, golfing, and canoeing/kayaking. Many full-time and working RVers stay for extended periods. Note that our camping area is small and intimate, so you will be close to other campers. We have 5 30-amp hookups, and 2 50-amp hookups; if you need 50-amp service, please request it. Note that a minimum of a 2-night stay will typically be required on weekends, especially during our busy season. WiFi is available, but we call it "Country WiFi" since it sometimes can be slow and may or may not be accessible from where you are parked; also, Verizon cell service in our area is terrible. If internet access is important to you, we suggest having your own hotspot or internet service (many working RVers have Starlink). Note that GPS can be very mean in our rural area; make sure your turn off Highway 50 is onto paved High Corner Road, which is 2 miles west of I-75 (if GPS tries to turn you down unpaved, dead-end roads, DO NOT LISTEN..you will get stuck!).

It was a wonderful relaxing stay! Dona was a fantastic host and the tour was amazing! To see that many foxes up close, to feed them eggs was a bucket list moment!! Relaxing on the porch listening to the melodic howl of the papa new guinea dingo was something I didn’t know I needed in my life!! Also, the horses literally running around playing together is something I have never seen despite staying at horse sanctuaries before. Book now you won’t regret it!

This was a great experience for my boyfriend and I. As a nurse i prioritize peace and self care off the clock.....this property was definitely peaceful in a surrounding of nature that influences self care. Dawns land was full of greenery, she organized rental spaces to prioritize privacy. Our rental space was clean and organized. Easily to become a romantic setting for any couple. Bathroom was very clean and cute! Dawn herself was a welcoming and down to earth personality, which is refreshing. So detailed with around the area activities and food. We did not get to use the hot tub (we forgot about it) but I can garentee that would've been just as impressive. I plan to rent again! Thanks Dawn!!!!♡

We can’t wait to go back to Spotted Dance Ranch! Kym approved us quickly and was very communicative regarding directions, offered info on nearest grocery, restaurants and more. (It was easy to get in and out thanks to following host directions vs gps.) John was super helpful and answered all of our questions upon arrival as well. Leveling and set up was a breeze. Everything was well maintained and cared for. Our dogs enjoyed stretching their legs on the property after our dog show. We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere after a hectic day too. 1000% would stay again, but next time we hope to stay longer so we have time to meet the horses. Don’t hesitate if you are considering booking here. It’s a great place to stay! John & Kym are wonderful hosts with a lovely ranch.

The property had three different places to stay. We chose the “Florida Breeze” which was a two bedroom “Barndominium”. Although we didn’t need a two bedroom this particular property was very large inside and had plenty of room for us and our three greyhounds. The property was well maintained, clean, and had everything we needed. On site the host runs an exotic animal sanctuary where they rescue rare animals. We took a tour of the property and saw a huge variety of different birds, some foxes, prairie dogs, lemurs, sheep, deer, horses, and tortoise. The host was very accommodating and friendly, plus we only saw them if we needed something. I would definitely stay here again if I’m ever traveling in the area.

Weekend Trip to Jungle Oasis

I can’t recommend Gulf Wind and Dona’s sanctuary enough! My son and I had planned a weekend camping outing originally scheduled at another location. We quickly realized the other location was not anywhere near what had been advertised and so I quickly contacted Dona to see if she had some last minute availability on her property. Dona was wonderfully responsive and super accommodating and so we headed over to hers as soon as possible. Our experience at Gulf Wind was beyond what we could have expected! The cabin was perfect, it was outfitted with everything we needed, and Dona also went the extra mile to bring us a firepit so we could make dinner and s’mores over the fire. Dona gave us a tour of the sanctuary and took the time to educate us on the animals and their efforts to keep them safe and healthy. My son was so thrilled to interact with these special animals and to get to know their personalities and preferences. We will absolutely be back. Diego’s cabin was the perfect size for us. Next time we come (and there will be a next time!) we will try the larger Florida Breeze cabin with more of our family to change things up! Thank you, Dona and family, for being so welcoming and accommodating. You seriously enriched my son’s experience and we appreciate what you’re doing for these amazing animals.

A very lovely place with truly welcoming hosts. The room itself was neat, clean, and very comfortable to stay in. I especially enjoyed the wide variety of animals — it was such a delightful surprise! The gardens are radiant, the tent and restroom was tastefully decorated and all the amenities of a hotel are available - the towels were so soft and the bed was so comfortable! Best part is the hospitality offered by the host who made you feel very welcomed. I will be coming back as my get away retreat.

I loved camping at Becca and Kary’s spot, this is now my favorite camping place yet! I loved how quiet it was and serene- it felt like I was the only one there. My dog loved being able to swim in the river. Lots of time spent riverside sunbathing and reading. The porta potty was clean and convenient. The only sounds to be heard were birds and night sounds mostly, I did hear some moo’ing and a dog barking a little bit but it didn’t bother me at all… the whole weekend was SO PEACEFUL. I didn’t want to leave.

1 night at Costa Myakka

The property is expansive and we enjoyed walking around it with our dog. Splashed around and wasted in the water for over an hour. Dog zoomies in the water?? Priceless! We loved our tent-camping site but on our walk we saw several other nice sites and a picnic area. Next time we may rent kayaks! We were pleasantly surprised there was a port-o-john on the property, which was very clean. The only drawbacks were slight. When we stopped at the homestead to meet the host, a barking dog announced our arrival. No front door clearly visible, so it was several minutes of the dog barking non-stop and me calling out for anyone who may hear before someone came out. I may recommend training the son how to host if he is going to regularly be the greeter. We will bring a shovel next time in case there are cow patties on the campsite, as they are not removed in preparation for guests. Otherwise, we enjoyed the solitude and quiet. Unassuming place and we were left to our own devices. We will save the spot for future visits!
