Guests receive a personal code that activates at their check-in time and deactivates at their check-out time. There are two smart locks - one on the entrance of the main house and one on the pool house.
The whole property is available for your use.El Portal is the smallest municipality in Miami-Dade County less than a mile from I95 and close to Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports. It’s s short drive to beaches and the attractions and shopping in downtown Miami.

We also believe the short-term rental industry should be a safe place for hosts and guests to transact.
That is why we have partnered with Superhog, a company that specializes in verifications and screening, conducting the same checks on all hosts that use their platform so that you can be confident that you are staying with a legitimate host.

Guests receive a personal code that activates at their check-in time and deactivates at their check-out time. There are two smart locks - one on the entrance of the main house and one on the pool house.

Jose coordinated packages, provided water and electric, and dumping is available onsite. Jose's home is very convenient for exploring Miami! We will be back : )

We had a 26ft travel trailer and needed to back in from the road. This was not a huge deal as there is virtually no traffic on the road and it is very wide. There was a trash bin and recycling near the site fornus to use which was very convenient.

We loved our stay at Shady Acres! We were able to find a spot with full hookups. Our dog loved spending time off leash, making friends with the other dogs and getting spoiled by the other guests. The kids will keep the memory of meeting Louie (the horse), the peacocks and cows all their lives. We visited the Lion Country Safari nearby and enjoyed it immensely!!
To be clear, this is not a campground. It is definitely land they have cleared and added amenities. Do not expect bathouses, restrooms, paved sites etc. but if you are looking for a bit more of a rustic stay this is definitely your place!!

I was warmly welcomed at George’s campground! I was not sure at first how I would fare with the campsite being tucked away from the car and the outhouse but it seems the body adapts quite quickly when you get clean air and peaceful quiet time at night. It is a touch of wild forest in the middle of a suburban desert. George has been taking a step by step process to bridge people back to nature. You are experiencing a snapshot of a vision in flux! He is highly communicative whatever your needs and a pleasure to meet! I would gladly return. It is great to be close to town with great food options as well.

My girlfriend and I just finished a two-night stay at this wonderful location. The property is 5 acres and only hosts a few guests at a time so the campsites felt remote. The host is extremely passionate about permaculture and love to share knowledge - just ask! As it is a native environment you should expect mosquitoes, critters, and everything that comes along with it - including butterflies, dragonflies, and all of natures beauty.
The campsite were tricky to find and I recommend coordinating that in advance, as once the sun goes down, it's DARK.
Overall, a great getaway and I would stay here again. It's a short drive to Blue Heron Bridge and other West Palm locations.

Where to go
Sunrise Surrounds
Markham Park is an urban oasis that borders the Everglades on the southwestern edge of Sunrise. The 669 acre park has dedicated mountain bike trails, disc golf, and a boat launch and fishing access on the New River Canal. The New River Greenway and the Conservation Levee Greenway converge here, giving runners and cyclists miles of protected multi-use trails. There’s even a campground at Markham Park with full hookups, picnic tables, grills, bathrooms, showers, and a dump station.
Atlantic Beaches
There are several excellent beach parks east of Sunrise, including Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. There are also nice public beaches in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Deerfield Beach where you can swim, snorkel, and lay out in the sun. Manatee, dolphins, and tropical fish abound in South Florida’s Intercoastal and Atlantic waterways.
Big Cypress National Preserve
As I-75 heads west from Sunrise it crosses the Everglades in a section known as Alligator Alley. This road leads you straight to Big Cypress National Preserve, a sprawling park whose Big Cypress Swamp is home to alligators, orchids, bald oak trees, Florida panther, and black bear. You can paddle or swamp hike these wetlands. The Preserve also has pinelands and prairie for hiking and biking and multiple campgrounds.
Miami Area Nature Highlights
For day trips from Sunrise further south into the Miami area, check out Everglades National Park, boating at Biscayne National Park, and reef snorkeling at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
When to go
Due to its tropical climate, Sunrise has pleasant weather in the fall, winter, and spring. Summers are hot and humid with heavy rainfall—summer and fall make up Florida’s hurricane season, when keeping an eye on weather forecasts and monitoring Atlantic storm activity is a must for safety. South Florida’s busy season is winter, when travelers from the Northeast throng here to escape cold weather.
