Weekend Trip to Sand Between Your Toes

This was a great spot, close to everything the world’s most beautiful beaches has to offer, yet far enough away to have a nice peaceful rest. Brian was very kind and quick to respond to any questions that we had. Host provided and nice little book with everything you needed to know about the property as well as restaurant recommendations along with menus. We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again!

The property is in a perfect location for star gazing, safe with gate code.Owners have a residence and can assist with pre-delivering firewood and or even a complete tent set up.Private nooks for campers and a new bath house being built. We went with 2 dogs 3 kids and it was great!

We can’t say enough wonderful things about Eric and his hospitality. He had the site set up for us with Adirondack chairs, umbrella, fire pit, and a small table when we arrived. His communication with us was great prior to our arrival and all throughout our stay. The spot is very clean and is nicely set up with water, 30 amp, and sewer. Eric took us on a 3-hour boat trip all around the area on his restored pink boat which was the highlight of our trip. We slept with the doors open on our Class B, and felt completely safe in the area which was quiet and peaceful. The dock has been refurbished and is a perfect place to relax and unwind. We loved getting to explore Fort Walton Beach on Eric’s recommendations.

I had a quick stop over here overnight and it was lovely. Nice, quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The sites were nicely groomed, cute solar lights to mark each site which helped since I arrived after dark. My pup and I had a nice walk in the morning down their street. My only request would be a table of some sort to make a cup of coffee and quick breakfast before hitting the road again.

I arrived after sunset and it was easy to find. The host came out right away to help me find my spot. He was very helpful and pleasant. The campsite was clean with ample space and good level ground for a tent. The port-a-potty was a short walk and there are plenty of solar lights to help you find your way. They also have a shower, water spigot, fire pits, and some wood to burn. The camping area is within a neighborhood on a large property, so there is enough separation from neighborhood homes to have privacy, but you must also still be careful about making too much noise or light late at night. Overall, it is quiet. I was there on a weekend night, so there was some car and truck noise from highways in the distance and a speedway racetrack. It’s about a 20 minute to 1/2 hour drive to the good beaches.

Nice quiet lot with full hookups. Not far from the beach and on the safer end of Panama City. Owners provided firewood which was a nice touch. Owners were friendly but not over bearing. Would definitely come again.

Weekend Trip to Apple Hill Cabins and Camp Ground

Marie and Larry are kind, generous, and the real thing: Alabama homesteaders for generations. They decided to share their beautiful property with folks who are looking for peace and quiet, not frills and frippery. I walked the land every morning I was there after drinking my coffee serenaded by hundreds of bird. We enjoyed a bout of "severe weather" one evening, with thunderstorms and lightening and heavy rains pounding my little trailer. Larry and I had the chance to chat numerous times and I learned fascinating things about him and the history of the area. He and Marie even invited me in for a shrimp boil and catfish dinner. Now that's great hospitality. I stayed in site one, electric no sewer. But I think it's the best spot anyway since you can see the ponds and woods. I highly recommend Apple Hill and if I lived closer, I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Weekend Trip to Larry & Sheila's Blackwater Getaway

We lucked out here. We had a quiet weekend (as you can with THREE boys 12,13,13). Sheila and Larry were so friendly, they stopped in a bit after we arrived. We were able to chat a bit while we were allowing the boys to be boys… sometimes it’s hard to be able to. It was so refreshing for me to enjoy nature and let the boys do the work and run like heathens for once. We will most definitely be back to this beautiful piece of property.

We loved camping here in our 5th wheel! It was as advertised and perfect for my family. We hope to stay again when we are in the area.

4 nights at Country Camping At The Beach

Laura and her husband were very accommodating and friendly during our 4 night stay! Their compound is centrally located in PCB and just a short walk or bike to the beach. Lots of restaurants very close also! We enjoyed observing their goats, chickens, ducks, and newborn baby goat in their backyard pen. You’ll find features here that you won’t get at a state park like the onsite hot tub! We will definitely book with them again in the future!!

1 night at Moonpie Farm and Creamery

Cool little farm with all kinds of animals. If you aren't aware farm birds (guinea fowl, chickens and geese) do make noise so don't be surprised by that. The campsite was nice and fairly secluded in a small stand of trees. The animals were all very friendly especially the livestock guardian dogs who roamed the property all day and night. I definitely recommend sampling their dairy goods. The yogurt was so delicious. I should have bought more bc me and my daughter kept fighting for the "next bite". I didn't try the other dairy products but they had to be just as good. The only suggestion would be a pair of ear plugs if you're tent camping as the interstate is very close by and traffic noise can be heard all night. I doubt rv campers would be bothered. Regardless I highly recommend this campground.

I loved staying at 30A Hideaway Retreat & already miss being there. It is secluded & private, right on the bayou to enjoy gorgeous sunsets, use the kayaks/paddle boards to get out on the water or go fishing off the dock. I saw a dolphin swimming right off of the dock along with pelicans, egrets & grey herons flying, feeding & hanging around. It is also close enough to eat out at fun restaurants, go shopping & relax on the white sandy beaches & swim in the turquoise ocean. I took a great bike ride on the Timpoochee Trail, an 18-mile beautiful, paved trail that runs along South Walton’s Scenic 30A, through colorful, picturesque beachside towns & along several rare & captivating dune lakes. This idyllic property is the perfect camping vacation retreat ~ I highly recommend it!

I didn’t get a chance to use the fire ring and the Nice umbrella/table and chairs available for guests. But there’s always next time…! We have a nice little RV pad on the back of our coastal home. Situated on a little bayou that opens out into Choctawhatchee Bay. Crab Island is only a 10 minute boat ride away. You would have access to our small dock and there is a neighborhood boat ramp less than one hundred feet away. This is a great place for kayaks, wave runners, and small boats. If you don't have a boat, we can set up any kind of trip you want. We are all licensed captains and own multiple Crab Island businesses. We have a 23' sailboat that we can take up to 6 people on for a peaceful 4 hour sail. You can charter our pontoon boat for as many as 6 people to take you to Crab Island as well as some other spots that only locals know about. We also have a restored 1966 Boston Whaler that is perfect for couples looking for a sunset cruise, etc. We can also do Waverunner tours. We can take you on a guided wave runner tour looking for dolphins and private beaches. We can also accommodate up to 2 people on an inshore flats skiff targeting redfish and trout on light spinning gear and fly rods. The neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Fort Walton with large oaks and magnolias providing plenty of shade for bike riding and walking. Downtown Fort Walton with its shops and quaint restaurants is only a mile away. Didn't bring a bike, we have 2 you can use. The site comes with water/sewer and 30 Amp hookup. Overview

DeFuniak Springs is an easygoing town at the heart of the Florida Panhandle, where nature lovers can swim in springs, hike through scenic refuges, and reach the Gulf Coast’s white-sand beaches on a day trip. In addition to vineyards and lakes with bass fishing, this hidden gem has spacious campgrounds and uncrowded parks, especially during the Panhandle’s peak visitor seasons in winter and spring break. Multiple RV resorts with full hookups are set in the area, making DeFuniak Springs a great home base to explore the surrounding wilderness.

Where to go

DeFuniak Springs Surrounds

About 15 minutes east of town, the Ponce De Leon State Park allows visitors to swim in its 68°F spring waters. Morrison Springs County Park is also a great spring site for swimming and diving.

Econfina Creek Wildlife Management Area

This wildlife preserve east of DeFuniak Springs and just north of Panama City has a 14-mile stretch of the Florida Trail for hikers to explore. Birders come looking to spot bald eagles, osprey, kestrels, and warblers, while the spring-fed Econfina Creek is popular with kayak and canoe paddlers, and sites like Pitt and Sylvan Springs are accessible for swimming.

Falling Waters State Park

Forty minutes east of DeFuniak Springs, Falling Waters State Park is home to Florida’s tallest waterfall. The peaceful forested campground offers campsites with picnic tables and fire rings.

Gulf Beaches

DeFuniak is about an hour from an excellent stretch of Gulf Coast beaches with warm water and white quartz sand. Henderson Beach State Park in Destin has 30-foot sand dunes, while Grayton Beach State Park near Seaside features freshwater dune lakes and hiking trails. Both parks have campgrounds and great beaches for sunbathing. An offshore artificial reef system creates numerous opportunities for snorkelers and scuba divers to gaze at tropical fish—Destin has a variety of rental shops.

When to go

DeFuniak is a bit more seasonal than parts of Florida further south—winter low temps are in the upper forties, and summer high temps have a bit less bite and humidity. This makes for solid year-round camping, but make sure you have warm gear in winter and rain protection year-round. During hurricane season in summer and fall, Florida campers should keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center’s Atlantic Outlook to avoid any potential storms.
