There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

It has since been built up with the scrappy efforts of amateur creative dreamers. It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events. Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. Weekend Trip to Cabin Hideaway

This is the second time I've stayed in this beautiful cabin. Each time I've extended our stay. It has a cozy feeling once you step inside, and you feel right at home. The owner is super easy to contact when you have any questions or concerns, and she's super sweet to chat with. The only complaint I have is the Hipcamp app itself. The property owners that use this app has a lot of difficulty reaching out to me or being able to get on the app itself. So you would need to make sure that you have an alternate way of communicating with management because this app is unreliable when it comes to that. Highly recommend staying here!

I had an incredible stay at this riverfront camp. The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, clean, and right on the water. Michael, the host, was extremely hospitable and kind. You can tell he truly cares about the land and the people who come to enjoy it. Waking up to the sound of the Trinity and being able to step out and swing flies right from camp was unreal. I managed to bring a few nice steelhead to the net without ever having to leave the property. If you’re a fisherman, this place is gold. If you’re a family looking for a quiet place to relax, swim, explore, and enjoy the outdoors, it’s perfect for you too. Highly recommend. I’ll be back.

Weekend Trip to The Swimming Hole On Red Cap Creek

We ended up being the only campers on an early November day, so Wayne graciously let us choose whichever site we liked. We pitched our tent right by the communal fire pit and picnic tables instead of a designated site. The ground was easy to drive stakes into, and Wayne even offered more substantial stakes in case they were needed. His sweet dog (Cowboy) and horse (Coco) paid some very welcome visits. They're sneaky for treats, so watch your back! ;) A hose is nearby that supplies filtered fresh spring water, and the toilet room is very convenient. The hot showers were down due to some construction, but we enjoyed our stay a lot! We would recommend this place as a nice getaway, or as a stop on your way to the redwoods or Eureka (we did both).

This was the perfect place to stop over on our trip down to Yosemite. Very close the highway, easy to find, and our spot was pretty level. The hosts could not have been nicer! Johnathan and Wes truly cared that we were enjoying our stay and made sure that we had everything we needed to make us comfortable. The majority of the park is full-time residents, however we felt safe and it was very quiet. We would stay here again if passing through the area. Bonus: the laundry room was very clean and the washer/dryer actually worked very well! No extra time needed for our load of towels - which is always an awesome surprise!

Such a great private retreat with our 3 pups! It has everything needed for a glamping getaway and more! Very clean all around. All amenities were there and taken care of well. Peaceful and absolutely beautiful! Nice swimming hole that we wished we could have jumped in but the weather was a bit chilly! We also stopped by the winery and met Leith who gave us a great rundown of the history which was a pleasant little bonus! We will come back next summer for a few more day with friends to enjoy!

I liked that i was the only tent camper ....well until my last day there. There was a bathroom very close to my tent site and a shower that you don't have to pay for....that's a plus. The signal is bad put they give you a wifi code for the office and club house and they are just a few minutes walk from the tent sites. And the club house seems like a nice idea for people that come with kids, because they have a TV and different types of games in there. I came in beginning of October, so it got a little cold at night, but since I travel with a heater it wasn't bad at all. Oh, and there are deers galore ....so cute. I frequently heard the birds flapping there wings. And some mornings I would hear the rooster 🐓 from a little bit away and that would be my alarm clock ⏰️. Overall, if I would head this way again camping I'd probably revisit.....it was peaceful.

1 night at Old Lewiston Bridge RV Resort

After another nearby campsite was too steep and muddy for my motorcycle, I went to this place that I passed earlier. They closed the office at 6pm, but there was a "Ring" button for after hours. I used Hipcamp to reserve at 7pm, then pressed the Ring. The owner kindly signed me in, he is a fellow motorcycle rider, then led the way to the sites. There is a separate bathroom and shower for the tent sites, fire rings at each tent site, and a small trailer made into a Recreation Room with a couch, kitchenette, refrigerator, and games. On a chilly day, the heater was welcome. There is a deck and outdoor kitchen behind the office. There is wifi available. The site has more growth potential as it is next to a river full of fish. The summer months are popular for fisherman there. I enjoyed the camp and would use in future trips.
