Fourteen acres of raw land in the foothills near Brownsville/Oregon House — solar well, oak and manzanita trees, and a bunch of mellow animals. I’ve lived here for over a decade, mostly off-grid, and the land is still unfolding.
There are a couple of donkeys, some goats, a small flock of chickens and quail, two super-chill dogs (Stax and Summer Grass), and a cat named Mike. All friendly, all part of the rhythm. If you’re cool with animals, you’ll love it. If you’re not, this probably isn’t the spot for you.
You can park your trailer, post up in your rig, or camp under the trees. Bring what you need and make yourself at home. There’s space to be left alone, make some art, dig in the dirt, fix a few things, or just sit with it. If you’re solid and grounded, we can talk trade — especially if I’m off the property and need someone to keep an eye on the crew. Staying at this magical little cabin in the woods was everything you could ask for and then some. We had a great time just enjoying the quietness of the area and just the sounds of the Yuba river. The cabin was beautiful and just felt like staying in a piece of history with how beautiful it was inside and out. Stay here and you wont regret it, only that you didnt book a longer stay.

The Butterfly Yurt is the perfect glamping spot! It's private, comfortable, and has just enough amenities to make the stay easy yet with the camping feel. Lori and Lucky were great hosts -- nearby if needed but out of sight and earshot. The location is great for access to Quincy, the Feather River canyon, the Lakes region (the hike to the Sierra Buttes lookout is epic!), swimming, hot springs, etc. Or just laze on the yurt's deck with a cup of coffee and read. We hope to go back again soon.

This was our first time camping in a yurt- or any premade structure for that matter! I couldn’t complain about a single thing, there was so much more provided in the yurt than we could have imagined. There is basically a full kitchen set up witch dishes and utensils, extra blankets, fire wood for the fire place, A SHOWER, toilet paper, lighters, even cooking oil! It was such a relaxing get away for my family and I. We had such a blast exploring the property, going to the swimming hole basically 3 minutes away, and just enjoying each others company. Although the structure itself is rather close to the home, it still feels so secluded and like you’re right in the middle of nowhere. If you’re thinking about pulling the trigger on something nice for camping, don’t bother looking anywhere else!

Kari was absolutely awesome, extremely hospitable, and was always available for anything we needed. She gave great recommendations, and even let us borrow her can opener! :)
The space itself was really great. Lots of room for parking, nice, large flat areas for tents (bring a tarp, though, because it is mostly gravel), chairs and picnic table, a cool little setup underneath some aspens and pines. Pop-up toilet situation was easy to work with. Really nice to have access to potable water and firewood.
The BARn was freakin' epic! It was so fun to spend a day at Lake Davis kayaking and swimming, then coming back and roasting up some dinner on the provided fire pit (so awesome!) and hanging out in the converted mini-barn. It had fun lighting, speakers, a cool bar-style island, couches, etc... Having access to the wilderness and then what felt like our own private little pub back at our campsite? Epic.
My only *heads up* would be that the site itself isn't what I would consider remote. It is super conveniently located, especially with regard to the lake, but it is also part of a larger property, so you do share a driveway with the host's house as well as her tenant's space. It's not bad by any means, but it also isn't a private campsite deep in the woods, so, if you are looking for that type of remote privacy, just keep this in mind.
I went with 4 of my friends for a little bachelor getaway and, ultimately, it rocked. Highly recommend.

We had a great stay at Joe's property. The kids loved tent camping, swimming, and exploring the area. Grandpa enjoyed the creature comforts of the tiny house, especially the AC and mini-fridge. The propane grill worked great and the tiny home had all the kitchen items we needed (e.g. cutlery, pots/pans, grill tongs, plates/bowls). The natural pool in the creek is beautiful and refreshing on a hot day. It's well worth the hike. We look forward to returning!

Kari’s campground is such a perfect vacation spot!! Located minutes from the lake and nestled in a beautiful grove of trees, it was such a fun and welcoming experience!
Kari is such an amazing person, she made us feel like family! She greeted us when we arrived and showed us around while also giving tips and explaining the local wildlife, which I appreciated so much as a mom of littles. She also checked in every now and then to make sure we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed. Such a great host!❤️
The site was super spacious, table was clean and the area is so nice we didn’t need to use our bug spray!
The barn is so relaxing as well, and was fun to have lunch in when we got back from Coot Bay(definitely a place worth checking out). Beautiful warm water, sandy beach looking into beautiful trees and mountains. Bring your fishing gear if you like to fish, someone caught a HUGE rainbow trout next to us!! 🐟
We enjoyed the outdoor games provided, and the sound system was a huge plus with a Bluetooth option or we stuck to the local radio station which was great!!
I noticed how Kari’s property gets plenty of both sun and shade at all times during the day, which is HUGE for us as we had our 2y/o, 5y/o & senior pup as well. There was potable water on sight with a hose that made it easy to fill the kids pool!

I love camping on Joe’s land with my pups! It is so spacious and well cared for. We did a lot more exploring this trip and found the creek and additional trails I’ve seen mentioned. Talk about gorgeous! Definitely appreciated the tiny home having the air conditioning unit when the day warmed up! Also tried out the outdoor shower and let me just say… it was relaxing and felt amazing in the warm sun!
We tried out the disk golf and lounged around in the hammock. Overall, it is just a great area to chill, relax, unwind and let your dogs run free.

Joe’s land is well kept and beautiful. Grandma stayed in the tiny house and we pitched a tent with our 10 year old and 2 dogs. The house had a nice bed with bedding and tons of pillows. Grandma approved. Cool loft area that our son loved hanging out in. The kitchen had all the basics for simple cooking and dining for a small family including a French press with coffee. There was a hot plate, kettle, and mini fridge. We didn’t use most of the amenities as we weren’t sure what was available and brought all our gears including a portable fridge. But next time we’ll know!
The property itself is super cute and nicely groomed. Fenced areas with plants and walkways, outdoor shower and tub. We used the outdoor shower over the one inside, it’s awesome after sitting around in the heat. You can drive down further off the site to the river area. It was a bit sketchy for grandma to go further up the water but there’s plenty beautiful spots to sit and enjoy. There’s no shade and may not be suitable for swimming for young kids but worth the amazing rock formation and mini waterfalls. It’s magical.
There’s a path down the creek from the house and it was perfect to hang out and swim. It’s a small area with shade and the running creek flows into a little pool where we had water floats and swam.

Weekend Trip to Perfect Getaway with Private Creek
Wow what a perfect spot! The tiny home is comfortable and had everything we needed. The AC works, the bed is big enough for two plus some room. There’s a loft space for storage This home has enough space and amenities to cook comfortably and has a room to eat and relax. My partner is 6’3” and fit with no head bumps or cramped feelings. There’s a local market less than 10 mins away, and it’s only 20 mins away from downtown Nevada City. This spot really is the perfect mix of being in nature and close to anything you’d want to do. The property is gorgeous and totally private. The outdoor tub was quite the treat as well. If you're looking for a place to unwind, this really is the spot. Joe was attentive if we had any questions. 10/10 would recommend, we’ll definitely be back.
