The cabin shares the property with our home but a large portion of the yard is maintained solely for the use of cabin guests. The space feels private with no obligation to interact with the main house residents. Enjoy cooking on the BBQ or sitting by the firepit while taking in the woodland scenery. The area features a plethora of nearby hiking, mountain biking, disc golf, and swimming. Or enjoy the simplicity of reading a book, sitting by the fire, and letting the forest share its splendor with you. This house is also only about an hour drive to beautiful Lake Almanor and the amazing gem of Lassen National Park. It is very easy to go up for a day to go boating, fishing, a hike to the hot springs and hydrothermal areas, or have a picnic. The drive between here and there is on well maintained roads and the scenery is absolutely stunning. While Chico may look a bit far away on the map, the highway gets you there in 20 short minutes. This university town is well known for its mixture of vibrance, the arts, and small town rural living. The area boasts truly amazing restaurants, bars, shopping and modern amenities. Our property is very close to access points for the famous Upper Bidwell park. We will share a guidebook full of our personal recommendations of things to do in the area.

Once you get off on exit number 698 heading north from Redding CA you travel 7.1 miles on Gilman rd toward Hirz bay. The green cattle fence is on your right hand side. The land is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest with mixed trees and offers stunning mountain views. Despite its privacy, it is only seven minutes from the boat launch at Hirz Bay. On-site amenities include internet access and a screened room, perfect for escaping bugs and enjoying meals at the outdoor picnic table. There are two tent camping sites and one cabin. We were in the rv first time we stayed and the cottage the second time. Loved them both. Clean, comfy, ac worked amazing! Off the beaten path, which we really liked! Both had everything you might need for a great stay. Will stay again when passing through! Rv was a bit too short for my husband (he’s 6’6”).

4 nights at Little House in the Big Woods

This place was easy to find and SO CUTE! I wanted a little getaway to just chill by sun trees, and this was a great spot for that. I really enjoyed working on a puzzle with a hot tea, and cozied up by the space heater. The only thing is I think you have to request that the fridge gets turned on before you stay, and I didn't think to. It was cool, though, because I already planned to eat out and I just kept my water in there. Lol! The shower also works great, and I really enjoyed the little salt lamp.

Weekend Trip to Little House in the Big Woods

Great stay! Easy access into the home, perfect communication from the owners, and the house had everything we needed plus more. Absolutely would stay again and highly recommend it
