Weekend Trip to Camp Stoney Meadows

Second trip up to Stoney Meadows and it lived up to the experience of the first trip. Scott and Nora are incredible hosts and the property is absolutely beautiful!

This was our third visit to Camp Stoney Meadows. We've never being disappointed. Nora and Scott are super hosts. We love our hikes around the ranch and a dip in the cool refreshing river. Our cabin and the facilities were clean and well maintained. We'll be back

We stayed in one if the Airstreams, and it was clean and comfortable. We always sleep with the windows open, and the noise of the highway and the trains was evident-but we pretended it was the ocean and slept well. Communication and staff were excellent. Thank you for a nice stay!

If you’ve ever trekked the Camino de Santiago, traversed the Pacific Crest Trail, or wandered through the Appalachian wilderness, you’ll understand what I mean when I say Stoney Meadows is more than a place—it’s a feeling, a community, and a refuge at the end of your day. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Alex, the foreman. His kindness and helpful guidance made settling in effortless, which was especially appreciated after a ten-hour drive. Throughout my brief stay, I often saw him working alongside his children, teaching them the value of their home and instilling a deep respect for the land and its people. The property itself is built with clear intention. From the placement of fire pits that provide privacy without isolation, to the welcoming communal spaces that encourage gatherings, everything about Stoney Meadows fosters a natural flow of interaction and tranquility. Scattered patches of wildflowers add delicate bursts of color along the trails, contrasting beautifully with the variety of trees that offer shade and shelter. The natural hot springs provide a relaxing way to unwind. The ever-present river outside my bunkhouse added another layer of serenity, its rhythmic sounds creating a perfect backdrop for rest. While I didn’t have the opportunity to meet the owners, as they were out of the area during my stay, they were highly responsive to my email inquiries prior to my trip, offering clear and timely communication that made planning easy.

Weekend Trip to Jubilee Railroad Wilderness Lodge

Honestly one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. The drive here is beautiful, there’s mountains surrounding the area, and the site is so fun to walk around with all the train cars. The restaurant was unfortunately under repair, but they gave me restaurant recommendations in town, which then gave me a chance to explore the quaint town a bit. Will definitely come back. Me and my dog loved staying inside our own train car.

My husband and I stayed in box car 20, and it was very nice! Check in was a breeze. The view of the crags was breathtaking, worth it alone just for the view! The claw foot tub was wonderful for soaking and the chandeliers gave the room a romantic vibe. It was nice to have a small porch on the front and back to enjoy the sounds of the creek nearby. The only downside was that the dinning car was closed for renovations, along with the pool and hot tub. We will definitely be back to try the dining car and relax in the hot tub when it’s all open again.

What a spectacular spot, we had so much fun. The cabin was perfect and the surrounding area was majestic. We lost track of time while inventorying all the wildlife footprints we saw, a feast for your eyes and imagination. Highly recommended and hope to stay again in the future.

We absolutely loved Lisa's little cabin. It is well kept & has all the little amenities you may need including ear plugs for the near by train, toiletries, games, and even a heated mattress pad that my husband and I feel in love with.... so much that we even bought a pad for ours back home! Really nice hardwood floors, electric fireplace and internet made the stay warm & cozy. We loved the weather, local hikes & restaurants too! Pizza Factory & Yaks are must eats. We will definitely be making this our annual anniversary spot. ❤️

What an ideal tiny house! Cedar was equipped with all the basics, plus great furnishings. The bed was cozy and the cabin was *spotlessly* clean. If you need a spot to stay while traveling on I-5 (and do not want you and all your stuff to smell like Febreeze), skip the hotel and stay here. Loved it.

Our 120 remote acres are adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek. We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! PIease try to ignore the "car art" in the Pit River Tribe's Rancheria as you're coming here. Drive right through it, it's no reflection on us. The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip! No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

Small to medium size (5-15p) groups may combine sites and enjoy some shared space and amenities, please inquire. **04/25: entry road has 1 mile bumpy section awaiting maintenance** At an elevation just under 3000 feet, the Ridge gets lots of sun, with cold nights and hot days in winter and summer respectively. This is a drier climate between May and October, meaning some fire risk and potential smoke impacts in area forests, although the mountainside location generally offers clean fresh air with stunning sunsets and excellent stargazing. The land contains over a mile of scenic trails with rock features, gnarly old "bonsai" oak trees, native plants and wildflowers in a landscape undergoing restoration to healthy diverse fire resistant conditions. Wildlife abounds, mostly the friendly sort however visitors should be mindful to avoid unwelcome encounters, and any small children or pets kept under close watch. Your host can address questions or concerns. Count on fair to good cell service, wifi and power are centrally accessible too. Activity and development on site are minimized to enhance natural habitat and ambience. Guests are advised to minimize disturbance of other occupants and lifeforms. It's fine to have fun and make some intermittent noise but disruptive or damaging behavior will be curtailed. This extends to the neighborhood as well, especially on the road in/out where it's important to keep your speed (dust, noise etc) DOWN in the vicinity of houses. The property is not a park, playground, or big backyard, in fact probably not much like anyplace you've been...prepare for a novel experience! Come as a guest, not a customer, and find yourself at home in the wild. Youth visitors are welcome but must be supervised and receptive to guidelines. This location is not set up (yet) for people with mobility challenges, or people with no prior wilderness experience.

We are constantly working to upgrade this system but there is no guarantee of its operating status or available bandwidth. It has been pretty reliable after our last upgrade. Each FHU RV Site has a TV connected to our new 48 Channel, Digital, DirecTV system. Some TV’s are not compatible with our MP4 Digital System and some guests have difficulty configuring their RV/TV system. Antique hand tools, gauges, pictures, signals and other artifacts recall the glory days of railroading in the west and specifically the Dunsmuir and McCloud area. Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?
