The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area.
Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more.

While we don't yet have a compost toilet set up, we do provide a potable water hookup for your convenience. Please be mindful of your impact on the land and practice responsible camping during your stay. Pack out all that you bring in. No fires, not even portable ones.
There are 4 permanent residents on the land, including me, who live within several hundred feet are in and out of the ranch daily. Our driveway passes near your campsite. So while you have privacy in the trees, you may have smile-and-wave distance interaction with other humans during your stay. There are also neighbors to the East several hundred yards away as well.
A one-mile trail winds through the property that you are welcome to enjoy. Let me know if you are interested and I will show you were to find the trailhead. The path leads you to fascinating sites such as a tar caldera, Chumash cupules and mortars on boulders, and a tar marsh where wildlife thrives. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, botanist, birder, hiker, or simply seeking peace, this land offers something for you.
We welcome guests to stay for a maximum of three days, but we're open to accommodating longer stays upon request. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world. We look forward to hosting you!

Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. Please pack your trash out there is a dumpster at the front gate entrance/exit for your trash.

Nestled along a spring fed creek in the beautiful mountains of Santa Barbara. Immerse yourself in the great outdoors while staying cozy in a Yurt, or one of our Geo Domes. Beautiful natural campsites in the Valley of the Moon (Ojai Valley). Our sites are within an eighth of a mile of walking, running, biking, and riding trails from Ojai to the beaches of Ventura. On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands.
Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land.
That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite.
We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. There is also an outdoor shower, a shower tent with hot water, and an upgraded porta-potty with a sink.
Note: During times when high heat is predicted, we strongly recommend that our Hipcampers bring pop-up shade tents or canopies for their sites.
The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area.
Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more.
We offer both tent and RV camping.

The complete setup of this camping spot was great! I loved the vibe of the setup they have going on. The hosts’ description was 100% accurate and honest from the start which made it more comfortable with our stay knowing what to expect. You can hear the cars from the road nearby and also the vacuums from the car wash at the gas station but it wasn’t too loud to prevent us from falling asleep. You can hear birds at night and some owls which made it soothing. It is listed that there arent any restrooms or showers so if you are in an RV that isn’t a problem. We were tent camping and brought our own camping toilet so it wasn’t an issue for us especially since they have water available and they sell firewood on site too. The location is amazing ! 1 minute walk to a gas station. Maybe around 5-10 mins walk to either of the following: downtown Santa Ynez restaurants, shops, wine tasting, Chumash casino. Solvang is a short car ride away which is an amazing cute little place. Wineries are all around so this was a perfect spot for us because that was the purpose of our trip. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely return again. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of the camping spot, only one of our tent but it looks exactly as pictured in the listing ! A very special thank you to our host for making the booking so easy and providing such a pleasant experience.

We Came for Camping. We Accidentally Joined the Neighborhood. 😂
If you’re looking for a quiet little patch of dirt to pitch a tent and stare at a tree, Freedog Farms can do that. But if you’re lucky, you might also stumble into a wedding after-party, a 40th birthday rave, and a gathering of 70+ cyclists, all in the same weekend. And somehow, it all works!
My family and dog had an absolutely amazing time at Freedog Farms. Darin and Sierra are the kind of hosts who make you feel like you’ve been friends since high school, except now your friends own a ridiculously cool 50-acre ranch and invite you to hang out whenever you want.
Upon arrival, you’re greeted with a welcome drink of your choice, given a tour of the rustic ranch, introduced to the goats and chickens, shown the cactus flower beach and cold dunk tubs, and then whisked away on a UTV ride to find your perfect campsite. Basically, the check-in process has more personality than most resorts.
The ranch has everything from secluded hilltop campsites with incredible views to wide-open spaces that can accommodate family reunions, weddings, parties, and just about anything else you can dream up. Our site was fantastic, complete with a propane fire pit, hammock, table, and a lighted umbrella. We had beautiful views of the rolling hills, and a clean porta-potty conveniently nearby. Glamping? Maybe not. Glamping with character? Absolutely.
Here’s the funny part: despite all the events happening that weekend, the ranch is so expansive that everyone has room to do their own thing. Even better, the people attending those events were friendly, welcoming, and happy to invite us to join them. And, naturally, we accepted. Multiple times. We may have arrived as campers, but we apparently have a talent for becoming honorary guests at other people’s parties.
We also loved exploring the trails, watching our daughter and dog run around, and visiting Darrell’s Refuge, the beautiful cabin and deck Darin built in memory of his late brother. That spot adds a meaningful, personal touch to the ranch and tells you something about the heart behind this place.
Freedog Farms is clearly a labor of love. Every detail reflects the time, creativity, and care Darin and Sierra have poured into making this place special.
We’re already planning our return. The only problem? Our next visit may require a longer stay, because apparently we’re terrible at simply showing up, camping, and leaving.
Thank you, Darin and Sierra, for an unforgettable weekend. Five stars, happy campers, and one very happy dog. See you again soon!

We booked this campsite as a last-minute stop to split up a long drive during a road trip—And I am so sad we only had time to stay one night! Nathan was an amazing host: responsive, kind, met us at the gate, led us to our campsite, and personally explained where everything was, even though we arrived after dark. He made us feel very safe and welcome. The campsite itself is soooo cute and stocked with everything you need for cooking, playing games, and lounging. In the morning we got to see the farm animals which was so fun! I will definitely be back for a longer stay in the future, can’t recommend this hidden gem enough!
