Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point.
Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy.
On site is a work in progress and you will see project sites not fully completed. We have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience.
Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

Citrus groves have windmachines for frost protection and if the nighttime temperature dips below 36 degrees, they start up automatically. Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.

Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. Our camp area is right next to our home. We live on 2 acres which is apart of our families 500 acre ranch and home to a summer camp and retreats. There are nice hiking trails we can direct you to as long as the National Forest isn't closed. We have a few picnic tables, outdoor electrical, a grill, fresh spring water, water hook up and beautiful scenery all around. We do own a few ca. Our space isn’t huge but we are happy to share.
We live in a remote area and its beautiful and quiet. There is a local town 6 miles down the road that has several places to eat and one small place to get some grocery.
This property that we live on has been lived on now by 4 generations. My grandpa bought this land with his brother in 1940s. His brother eventually sold his portion leaving my grandpa with a little over 500 acres...We also run retreats off and on year round on the main property and offer a wide variety of things for our clients. Due to COVID, and the strange year had, we thought that this would help us gain a little of our money lost as well as meet some really cool travelers along the way.
We call this God's country because it is a unique and beautiful peace of land, even in the driest of moments. And...there is beautiful manzanita trees all over property.
We personally live 1/2 mile from the main part of the property Jameson Ranch, where the summer camp is held. I love to garden and are in the process of expanding our portion of the property to putting in fruit orchards and berry bushes.
Our whole property also borders the Sequoia National Forest and there are some fun walking trails around there. Its very peaceful here and a reconnect with nature so to speak if that is what you are looking for.
We hope to share this little bit of our heaven with you.

We had a beautiful stay at Spirit Walk. John welcomed us warmly and took the time to introduce us to the land, which immediately made us feel at home. Everything is thoughtfully maintained while still offering a sense of privacy, peace, and safety.
We found so many little points of connection during our stay, and quickly understood why this place feels so special. There really is something about the trees, the water, the quiet, and the care here. We left feeling more connected to ourselves, each other, and the land.

Plenty of room to explore. Take some time to relax on one of the swinging benches, or climb atop the pontoon and star gaze at night. Also, seening a moonrise over the hills was incredible. And this is just on the property! Take your time and explore the land beyond the gates. We'll definitely be coming back. FYI, bring plenty of shade during the summer.

We had such an amazing stay at Wandering Star Ranch! From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The campsite was peaceful, secluded, and the perfect place to celebrate with friends while enjoying nature. The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay.
I also wanted to mention that I saw a previous review about difficulty finding level camping spots, but it's clear they've put in the work to improve that. We had no issues finding a great, level area to set up, and you can tell the owners genuinely listen to guest feedback and continue making improvements.
If you're looking for a remote getaway with beautiful scenery, privacy, and hosts who truly care about their guests' experience, I can't recommend this place enough. We had an unforgettable weekend and will absolutely be coming back. Thank you again, Mark! 🌲✨

John was a wonderful host, and it’s inspiring to see how much he genuinely cares about the land. I’m excited to come back and see all of the improvements he’s working on.
