Our camp area is right next to our home. We live on 2 acres which is apart of our families 500 acre ranch and home to a summer camp and retreats. There are nice hiking trails we can direct you to as long as the National Forest isn't closed. We have a few picnic tables, outdoor electrical, a grill, fresh spring water, water hook up and beautiful scenery all around. We do own a few ca.  Our space isn’t huge but we are happy to share. We live in a remote area and its beautiful and quiet.  There is a local town 6 miles down the road that has several places to eat and one small place to get some grocery. This property that we live on has been lived on now by 4 generations. My grandpa bought this land with his brother in 1940s. His brother eventually sold his portion leaving my grandpa with a little over 500 acres...We also run retreats off and on year round on the main property and offer a wide variety of things for our clients. Due to COVID, and the strange year had, we thought that this would help us gain a little of our money lost as well as meet some really cool travelers along the way. We call this God's country because it is a unique and beautiful peace of land, even in the driest of moments. And...there is beautiful manzanita trees all over property. We personally live 1/2 mile from the main part of the property Jameson Ranch, where the summer camp is held. I love to garden and are in the process of expanding our portion of the property to putting in fruit orchards and berry bushes. Our whole property also borders the Sequoia National Forest and there are some fun walking trails around there. Its very peaceful here and a reconnect with nature so to speak if that is what you are looking for. We hope to share this little bit of our heaven with you. Underworld Farms is a small goat ranch in the Kern River Valley. Surrounded by forestry land, on the Kern River, and on top of what used to be the old town of Whiskey Flat (Later re-named Kernville). There is no end to the beauty, history and adventure all around the property. Life took us to the Kern River Valley after moving out of Los Angeles. We enjoy living in the Southern Sierras immersed in all its natural beauty. The small but magnificent town of Kernville is approximately two and a half miles north of us. Our livestock includes horses, dairy goats, sheep, and rabbits: Most of which are raised and bred as our son's 4H or FFA projects. You may be wondering why our farm is called "Underworld Farms". In a nutshell, since our ranch is on the footprint of the historic town of Whiskey Flat, we just happen to be south of the old Whiskey Flat "Boot Hill" Cemetery. Our "driveway" is the road that led from the old town of Kernville to the cemetery. We hope that you consider parking your RV, van conversion, or trailer on one of our customized spots on the property. Or drive your vehicle and pitch a tent on one of our tent friendly sports. Or enjoy a stay in one of our small cabins. Regardless of what you stay in, you will definitely have a memorable time. The campground is VERY barebones and rural. Critters, bugs, and sometimes fellow Hipcampers can be sparce or prevalent pretty randomly. Because Underworld Farms is a working ranch, you will probably hear livestock noises like horses neighing, sheep and goats calling, and our protector dogs barking from time to time. We encourage you to walk over to the horses and goats and meet them. They especially like when you bring them carrots or apple pieces. The ranch has a double outhouse with a hand washing station sandwiched in between, it is rustic and bare bones. We check it to see if it has paper products, soap, water, and plenty of room in the trash bins. During the hotter months, the "daddy longleg" spiders enjoy infiltrating the outhouses and seem to spin new webs overnight. But they and their webs are harmless and easy to brush off. We ask for your assistance if there is something missing, or the trash needs taking out, or if the spiders have taken over again by getting ahold of us through the Hipcamp App and letting us know. With all that being said, there is an ambient beauty here that is unbelievable and memorable. This beauty and draw is so powerful that it causes the many people who come visit to make arrangements to live in our little valley. There is much to do in and around our valley that you couldn't do it all in a lifetime. We hope that you come and stay at the ranch while enjoying our valley. There are no services, no water, no trash pickup, no toilets, no EV charging, and no cell service. There is only beauty—and lots of it—so please plan carefully. High-clearance vehicles and experienced driving skills are recommended; an SUV or 4WD is ideal for this terrain. If you have ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. You will be completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren landscape that feels alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, spring wildflowers burst across the land, and the Chumash cave paintings at Painted Rock serve as a reminder of those who lived here before us. This is a place where the deer and the antelope still play. The Pergola is surrounded by the Carrizo Plain National Monument and offers a true "get away from it all" camping experience. This single site features a picnic table, a shade pergola, and a fire ring. Please do not break off branches from bushes for your fire, and never leave your campfire unattended. Ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving. Note that campfires are not allowed during Red Flag warnings or high-wind events. This is a strictly PACK IT IN / PACK IT OUT site. Please take all trash and waste with you. If you are not self-contained, you can find vault toilets at Traver Ranch, Soda Lake Overlook, and the Visitor Center. Because there is no water or service here, you must arrive well-supplied. Be sure to download your reservation to your phone for proof of booking, as cell service is unreliable. Occasionally, you may find people picnicking at the site; please politely inform them of your reservation so they can move along. We highly recommend exploring Painted Rock, Caliente Ridge, and the Soda Lake boardwalk during your stay. Keep an eye out for the elk—they are a majestic sight! Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center as well. That is it. Just you and the coyotes on your own private moon.

The couple that runs Lemon Cove were so friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful spot, with excellent amenities. The rv pull through sites are a little closer together than most regular campgrounds, but all our neighbors were quiet and respectful so it didn't make a difference.

Great private spot with no neighbors. Sweeping views. Bare bones just a fire pit and table , perfect for us and just as expected. Pretty easy to find using Google Maps. Missed the flowers by a couple weeks thus the foxtails were out and challenging with dogs. Other than the foxtails, it was a great spot. We’d come again earlier next spring during the green season.

He’s still working on making the campground a more welcoming place (he acquired the property only 3 years ago and he works full time) but for me it was good enough. I stayed one night during my road trip on the way up north. He even told me about great restaurants to visit in town. Hey, William! 4 nights at Spirit Walk - Private Retreat

This is a very cool piece of property. The location itself is close to town for easy ice runs, but you feel like you’re away from everything , but still have a bar or two on the cell. The sites are each unique and hold their own identity and the kitchen is well stocked, just bring food. The outdoor shower is a MUST try, perfect for rinsing off after a hike. John was very easy to work with and made me feel welcome. I will definitely be back.

Great spot, centrally located for flower viewing in multiple directions. Fit my 28ft 5th wheel easily. Barely had to level. Just follow the host's written directions and not google maps and you will be fine. Thanks!

1 night at Secluded Carrizo Plains Campsite

Great spot! Unfortunately it wasn't mowed as suggested but we mowed it. Vista was 360 and stars were amazing. The directions indicate signage, but there wasn't any and it was a bit hard to find. But overall, it was secluded and peaceful and an amazing place!

Quite remote (you have to go on a dirt road at the end), but lovely and quiet. Starry skies! Nice bathrooms with a shower. Spacious common areas with a couple of grills and a firepit. William greeted me and got me settled. The sites are nothing special but the common areas are very nice.

5 nights at 10 Star Ranch

The open expanse of William's land is breathtaking with the mountains and rolling hills on all sides. There is lots of sagebrush, yes, but unusually there is also green lush growth this early spring. The neighbors are warm and generous as are the hosts. And the history of the land and ranch is rich and deep in American culture. I recommend this Hipcamp stay highly.

The site was what we expected, very quiet, no traffic noise. William was very helpful in advising where to park. We decided to stay a 2nd night because we liked it so much. William sent one of his employees by to check on us after we had arrived to see if we needed anything. We met our host the morning we were leaving and had a nice visit with him. We had a hard time finding this on Hip Camp because it had not been reserved much yet and didn't display on the search. We had to zoom in on a map to do an advanced search before being able to find it. Glad we did that as William's land was a great stay.
