From start to finish my experience working with the host was amazing! They have curated such a fun and special vibe at their Hip Camp site and I can't wait to come back here many more times! The amenities were abundant and the bathroom/ kitchen/ and cabin setup allowed for a comfortable transition from city life into the woods. The swing was the cherry on top, my friends and I look forward to our next visit.

If you are in need of a quick getaway from the busy life in the city, Walden Ranch is the camp to be in. Tucked in the middle of open fields and vineyards, I was delighted to enter a private road that led to a beautiful garden covered with mature trees and inhabited by various family friendly animals. Towards the edge of the property is a peaceful lake to gaze at. Alan, the host visited me twice, early during my stay and the following morning before I left. He is one of the most gentle and friendly hosts I’ve ever met. We spent about an hour talking and I didn’t even noticed it until he left. I also had pleasant conversations with a couple of his caretakers. I felt safe, took plenty of deep breaths, and slowly enjoyed nature.

Weekend Trip to Santa Cruz's Rudy Ranch

We loved our stay in Sam and Alex! Gordon and Roni are amazing host, we felt welcomed before even stepping onto the property. Their property is beautiful and filled with warmed! Our trip to California was amazing and a great break from our busy city lives. I highly recommend this place!!

Weekend Trip to Walden Ranch

We went with my two children (both under 5) and they had a blast. The property is perfect for an adventure for little ones. They loved to meet all of the animals, went bike riding on the property, and got to meet Adrian (the potbelly pig). We did read the reviews on the noises at night, and were prepared, so it wasn't as much of an issue as it could have been. Really beautiful property, and lovely experience.

Such a peaceful and serene retreat. Spent a great weekend here with my boys and will definitely be back. Serves as a great base camp to explore nearby towns and travel to the beach. Also has enough amenities to just kick back on property and enjoy a relaxing day. Marshall and Tanya were amazing hosts!

I loved camping on Ruth's land. I was at site 3 poolside and I was right next to the pool and the parking. First time ever camping right next to a pool!! Their place is in the Santa Cruz Mountains, yet was only 15 minutes from Felton and not much more to town. The location was very convenient as I forgot bug spray and had to go grab some at the store which was a quick drive. The property is surprisingly quiet, with the exception of their well pumping water every so often (barely noticeable). Marshall, Ruth's son, was telling me about the cleaning they've done in preparation for the season and it shows. His piano playing is very relaxing too! The rules they had were very reasonable, especially since its just a single mother with her son running this whole thing. Make sure to bring a small table because the sites don't have their own tables—which is something I would recommend to Ruth and Marshall! I can't wait to come again and bring my girlfriend:)

Ruth's place is great! Her son Marshall and the dog Snoopy are fantastic hosts (the coffee on the deck in the morning is a wonderful touch). We had a great time with our two young kids, they loved the trampolines and the swimming pool and we enjoyed relaxing in our very private campsite. We definitely recommend it and we hope to be back soon

All I have to say is WOW!... What a place. The views were amazing,the shade was incredible. Bathrooms near by. Very quite,lots of things to do, all supplied by the home owner. (Horse shoes, kayaking, paddle boating. Campfire area) The place was amazing. I loved it. Can't wait to go back. Oh... And lots of farm animals!..

Very nice. Will definitely be back. The peacocks were beautiful and very nice kayak ride. Fished lakes Camanche only like 25 minutes away then came back and enjoyed myself . Perfect.

First time using Hipcamp and this was a great introduction to the types of places they offer. Alan has created an oasis in NorCal with large trees, lots of animals, and a peaceful place to relax and listen to the wind. As soon as I parked one of the dogs came by for belly rubs as if to say welcome. After I got done setting up Alan came by to check in and chat for a little bit, super friendly and such a wonderful person. Later that evening the rest of the dogs came by and I ended up with one of them deciding to hang out with me the rest of the evening and over the subsequent day and night I was there. If you decide to go here make sure to bring apples and carrots for the Alpacas and Horses on the property, and plenty of dog treats for the pack of farm dogs that like to visit. Overall I can't say enough about what a great experience I had and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

This place is great for family! I spent a night there with various animals. The host is kind and the restroom is clean. If the spot is open for bigger family like more than 8 ppl, I am willing to invite some friends. What a wonderful place!

This is a little slice of paradise. My animal loving 7 year old daughter and my nature loving self we're in heaven. There is so much to do here. We went canoeing twice, and my daughter is finally old enough to walk out to the other pond now, which was beautiful and peaceful. (She was a toddler the last time we came here.) We said hi to all the geese, chickens, llamas, donkeys, cows, guinea fowl, rabbits, peacocks, and the horse and pony. My daughter made good friends with 3 or 4 of Alan's very friendly dogs. He and Brian were very welcoming and helpful. Thank you!

This trip was with my family and a friends family. This location was perfect! There is plenty of space to set up camp and the communal campfire is great! I am going to bring ear plugs next time because the peacocks are quite loud but that definitely should not stop you from visiting

PLEASE READ Hello all! If you're looking for some glamping with creature comforts, while just being 10 minutes away from restaurants. This is the place for you. We are a 5 acre property and home surrounded by tall redwood and oak trees. Very green and lots of shade. These are the amenities/facilities you will have free access to: Pool, Pool chairs and umbrellas, Deck area with sunset view, Trampolines, and hammocks. There is not cooking allowed by or at any of the common areas, due to flies and critters. Cooking and eating is only allowed by your sites and not in any common areas: Hammocks, Trampolines, Pool Area, tables, sink, and deck please follow this rule because we want to prevent our shared areas to be fly and bug infested. We are still working on ridding the flies and cleaning. (please try to bring prepackaged food or something easy. If anything you can drive 10 minutes to nearby food and grocery). In the past we let people cook and eat around the pool but now our whole property is fly infested and I find scattered leftovers on the ground. Thanks for understanding. THERE IS A 1-2 MINUTE HIKE TO THE CAMPSITES 1-5! Poolside campsites are closer to the parking and are bigger. CHECK OUT OUR NEW LODGING: This property is my home that I live in with my 2 kids. It is a rustic and homey vibe, definitely not a hotel. We want you to come knowing what to expect. Our property offers a pool, and trampolines for the kids. We have a deck patio area that overlooks an amazing view of the redwood forest. Most of our guests are those that come from foreign countries and they all LOVE the property. I love leaving a great impression of our area. CAMPGROUND GUIDELINES Pack out your trash. Rinse feet before using the pool. No pool toys or floaties. Always supervise kids. Don’t sit on chair edges or pool cover box. Use stumps or your own table for cooking (not ours). Keep the area clean—no food scraps on the ground. No dogs in the pool area; leashes and cleanup required. No eating in rooms or cabin. Check out on the deck. No smoking (vapes only, away from common areas). Propane grills only—no open flames or campfires. Thanks for helping us keep this place awesome!

Couple that with the inspiration of Thoreau's lines and life at the real Walden Pond, the ranch has grown to nearly 300 acres and the small ranch pond has grown to a 5-acre lake with a 3-acre forest and home. Scouts, family and church groups use the site for gatherings. Available are canoes, bonfire, and exploring the ranch's 300-head cattle, llamas, poultry and wildlife.
