Red Dragonfly Ranch

16 sites ¡ RVs, Tents38 acres ¡ Groveland, CA
In 2020 Red Dragonfly Ranch was opened and named in honor of the previous owners sister who would visit her in a form of a Red Dragonfly. June 2022 Red Dragonfly Ranch was purchased and is now ran by the Goldstein family. We wanted to keep the name to continue to honor her sister and the unique continued presence of red dragonflies on the property. As a family ran campsite you will meet a few of us and we are all here to help in any way. Our goal is to make a Hip Camp that our campers can fully enjoy and have the property be the destination of choice when visiting Yosemite or the gold country of the Sierra’s. The Red Dragonfly Ranch is conveniently located. We are only 30 minutes from the entrance to Yosemite and only minutes away from the beautiful town of Groveland " The Gateway to Yosemite" and all the hidden gems in between. There are chickens who lay eggs daily and we are working on maintaining the many raised beds, our goal is being able to have our campers feel free to pick fresh herbs, fruits and veggies for their pleasure. There is a year round spring fed creek to cool off in and shade is plentiful. Rv's are welcome , but we are boondocking only. BaseCampByBo!

4 sites ¡ RVs, Tents20 acres ¡ Groveland, CA
If you are looking for man made and leveled campsites, then this is not your basecamp. This land is a gorgeous 20 acres that means a lot to us.  It's space to find your peace of mind and pitch a tent or hammock, as you would when hiking the backcountry.  Aside from complimentary ice water, potty, shower, soaps, sanitizer, sunscreen, first aid, communal fire pit, wood stove and dishwashing area) this is not "glamping".  If you are  a person who appreciates nature and making due with what the land has provided, then we are a great fit. Guests have 20 acres to find a secluded, or socially distanced spot to pitch camp. This is for people that know how to camp in the backcountry -  Without a trash can, who don’t leave cigarette butts, respect the land and would rather not be sectioned off. Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry. The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out. Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away.  Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far.  Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. Sonora has a great farmers market on Sunday and is a beautiful 40 min drive away. Thank you for taking time to read this, we look forward to hosting you!  -Best    Jarrett & Bo

River, stream, or creek camping in Lake Don Pedro guide

Overview

In the foothills of the western Sierra Nevada, Lake Don Pedro is popular among boaters, campers, and anglers. With 160 miles of shoreline, 13,000 surface acres, and numerous coves and inlets, there’s plenty of space for houseboating, swimming, fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, and sailing. Two full service marinas, three boat ramps, and boat rentals make it easy to launch a boat. A renowned bass fishing lake, Don Pedro is also home to trout, salmon, catfish, and bluegill. As for camping, three developed campgrounds cater to tent and RV campers with full amenities, while unlimited dispersed camping is available along the undeveloped shoreline.

Where to go

River and Creek Arms

The very northern park of Lake Don Pedro is split between the Tuolumne River Arm and the Woods Creek Arm. The developed Moccasin Point Campground is on the eastern end, near highways 120 and 49, and offers tent and RV sites with full hookups, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and BBQ grills. Dispersed shoreline camping can be found along both the Woods Creek Arm and Tuolumne River Arms, especially toward the extreme ends of the lake.

Upper Bay, Middle Bay, and East Bay

The Upper Bay, East Bay, and Middle Bay make up the central portion of Lake Don Pedro. The Wreck-Bay Boat-in Camp Area sits at the western end of the Upper Bay offering fire rings and vault toilets, while the Graveyard Creek Boat-in Camp Area is near Rock Island in the Middle Bay. Dispersed camping is also available at most of the shoreline in this region.

South Bay and West Bay

The southern end of Don Pedro Reservoir offers the most amenities for campers. At the western end, find tent and RV sites with electricity and water hookups at Blue Oaks Campground, also home to BBQ grills, restrooms, showers, a store, and a dump station. A nearby group campground has space for up to 200 people, and the Fleming Meadows Campground, near the visitor center and dam, also offers campsites with full amenities. Dispersed camping is available in certain actions of the southern and western shorelines.
