Anson and I continue to build everything ourselves with the help of our friends and family every now and again. Our process is that we source as much lumber using the dead Eucalyptus trees we have here on the 36 acre property and we are constantly trying to come up with innovative ways to use recycled and donated materials in the venue. During the pandemic, we turned our venue into a campground so we could open up the venue to people who needed to get out into nature. We are now open for daily camping and private events. At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.
For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. Its 21 miles take you skyward through sub-alpine forests, mountain meadows, snow-dusted crags, and gnarled granite. An alpine start is required to avoid the midday heat so be prepared and take plenty of water.
Campers have plenty to choose from. The San Jacinto area offers two drive-in campsites, four hike-in primitive campsites, and adventures for every brand of wilderness craving. Anson and I continue to build everything ourselves with the help of our friends and family every now and again. Our process is that we source as much lumber using the dead Eucalyptus trees we have here on the 36 acre property and we are constantly trying to come up with innovative ways to use recycled and donated materials in the venue. During the pandemic, we turned our venue into a campground so we could open up the venue to people who needed to get out into nature. We are now open for daily camping and private events. At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.
For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. Its 21 miles take you skyward through sub-alpine forests, mountain meadows, snow-dusted crags, and gnarled granite. An alpine start is required to avoid the midday heat so be prepared and take plenty of water.
Campers have plenty to choose from. The San Jacinto area offers two drive-in campsites, four hike-in primitive campsites, and adventures for every brand of wilderness craving. If you want to backpack to the summit over a day or two try the Deer Springs Trail. This park has adventures for every brand of wilderness craving.

The entire place is an homage to architect, metal artist and sign maker Bob Morris who reimagined and helped create old town Temucula. This was our second time staying here, and it is always a pleasure! The check in is smooth, the hosts seem to always available for anything you need. The hosts are very inclusive of people of all backgrounds, lifestyles, and needs. The outdoor kitchen is fully stocked. The outdoor showers are warm with great water pressure. Overall, the land is serene with lots of great plants everywhere. The views from the kitchen are of beautiful snow capped mountains. It is a great place to relax and unwind!

Awesome location and setting. Sitting at 3000 ft, you can enjoy the cool breeze without dealing with altitude issues, occasional snow. I would have love to stop by when fresh apples and figs were being sold. Close enough to civilization not needing high clearance vehicle but nestled in such a way that you feel you are far away from the rat race. Ill be back!

This is such a beautiful spot. For my boyfriend and I's first camping trip with our dog this was absolutely perfect! The views were incredible, and we were so close to so many possible activities in the area. We came to hike and were delighted to know you could start a hike directly from your campsite! We also got to see the farm animals which was such a treat. Shane is the most accommodating, he made sure to explain everything we needed, was always one message away, and hand delivered our eggs/fruit that we purchased off the farm right when we bought them! I definitely hope we can make it back to the farm one day, and we recommend anyone who has this spot as an option to make the booking!

Weekend Trip to Stardust on the Mesa
My wife and I loved our stay at Stardust! Its wonderful if you're looking for a relaxing weekend, and is also quite conveniently located close to Yucca Valley proper. It could also serve as a good home base if you're looking to spend most of your time at Joshua Tree throughout your stay. The property has great outdoor space to enjoy during almost all parts of the day, with shaded and unshaded parts. The home is perfectly sized for two couples.

Dragonflyhill is so special. It is a warmly cultivated, thoughtfully arranged space. From the moment I saw the dragonfly banner on the gate, I knew I was home. I stayed for a month. Emma and Andy were very helpful with a few things that came up. They are very responsive hosts. And while there where several other campers who came and went during my time, I felt like I had enough space and privacy. The outdoor shower & kitchen were such a treat!

It was very serene and very unique visually. A most unique place to camp. Andy was the best! Warning though: you have to go through a few loops to stay there: Dog Vaccination required. ALso, you have to log in and watch a fireplace video to actually make a fire. Weird.
Otherwise, I'd recommend it to everyone.

San Bernardino National Forest
Spanning over 800,000 acres, San Bernardino National Forest is right in Highland’s backyard. One of the biggest highlights is San Gorgonio Mountain (aka “Old Greyback”) among the San Gorgonio Wilderness. It’s the highest mountain in all of Southern California—towering at an elevation of 11,500 ft. The strenuous hike to the top treats adventurers to stunning summit views of the surrounding ponderosa pine and white fir forest. The forest also contains several notable lakes, including Big Bear Lake and Lake Gregory, which offer fishing, boating, and water sports. Both public and private campgrounds near the forest offer RV hookups, picnic tables, and restrooms.
Angeles National Forest
Northwest of Highland, Angeles National Forest is home to Mount San Antonio. Affectionately known as Mount Baldy, the 10,064-foot peak sits among the San Gabriel Mountains. Discover unique landmarks like the Bridge to Nowhere and the ruins of the old Mount Lowe Railway while exploring the trails. This national forest also offers a unique Mediterranean ecosystem that lets campers view natural California wildlife like bobcats, Nelson bighorn sheep, and yellow-backed spiny lizards. More primitive tent campsites in the forest don’t have water; however, there are some that have more modern conveniences like restrooms.
Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park
Camping at Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park is a year-round treat for wildlife viewing and birdwatching. Walk among the blooming wildflowers in spring and go horseback riding along the park’s many miles of trails. Near the creek, children can enjoy a playground. Ranger-guided nature walks and naturalist programs offer more insight into the local plants and wildlife, like the ring-necked snake and red swamp crayfish. Some RV and tent campsites in the park have water and electric hookups, plus barbecue grills and hot showers. Group campsites and equestrian campgrounds are also available.
When to go
Highland can get hot and arid in the summer with an average temperature in the 90s during July and August. This is a great time for water-based activities at nearby lakes or pools. Winter is colder at higher elevations and in the desert, with snowfall possible in some mountain areas. Some mountain ranges offer skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. While bass fishing is available year-round, anglers may find spring to be the best fishing season. For birdwatchers, the spring and fall migrations bring a great variety of migratory birds like orioles and warblers.
