We loved this space so much we stayed again on the way home. The steam shower is hot and lovely and feels so luxurious after our long camping road trip. Jo was such a responsive and communicative host and showed up immediately with more propane when the hot water ran out. The lights in the trees make the site so dreamy. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I spent one night camping in our camper van. Was very easy to find and access. Spot was perfect, we fit great and even had power. The bath house is stunning and we very much enjoyed the hot tub! Was beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely Amazing Stay at Roughlands Campsite!
Our stay at Roughlands Campsite was nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived, Jo, our wonderful host, made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, she even offered us an extra pop-up canopy just in case, and her responses were always so quick and thoughtful.
The campsite itself is stunning! set against breathtaking woodland scenery that makes every sunrise and sunset feel magical. The hottub and bathhouse were an absolute treat after a long day of exploring—clean, comfortable, and so well maintained. You can really tell how much care and pride goes into keeping this place so beautiful and inviting.
If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature with an amazing host who truly cares, Roughlands Campsite is the perfect spot. We can’t wait to come back!

Everything was great! I loved every part of it, it was spacious & just a great place overall. There are other camping sites that are close by (individual tents, two of them) but you’re still pretty far from them. You do share the bathhouse but it’s honestly a nice spot to go when you want be in the woods but not too far from other people. I recommend 100%!

Cynthia's RV spot was secluded, private and quiet - everything we were looking for. The electric and water hook-ups were simple and easy, directions given were easy to follow and accurate and communication with her was great. She even provided recommendations for a place for dinner out. Very nice stay.

What a hidden gem. I had an amazing weekend at Roughlands soaking in the tub and enjoying the quiet. I was originally booked at Camp Hollyhock but Jo was kind enough to let me switch sites because Camp Lupine was much flatter. With Verizon I did lose service en route so download your maps ahead of time (although I had service on site). No issues driving on the dirt road in my Mini Cooper. I can't wait to come back!

We love this place! Emily is super accommodating. This was our second visit and our site was perfect. Secluded and quiet. Right on the river with easy access to swimming holes. Fishing, relaxing, fun for everyone here. Would recommend to anyone. We’ll be back again!

The Roughlands is a sweet camp spot, anything but rough, and I would definitely stay there again, in a heartbeat. The host is thoughtful, responsive, accommodating, and made my week on her land extra comfy.
The wash house is super lux, the large group camp site is flat, shady, has power, and the drive to the river is easy and reasonably close, making this campground an excellent value.

We really enjoyed staying at Jo’s campsite and would love to stay here again. The site itself was very large and flat and more than enough room for our 2 large (and could easily fit more) tents as well as our chairs and a picnic blanket to spread out. The string lights also provided great mood lighting as the sun set. The view of the hills were beautiful. Despite the summer heat, the campsite is really well shaded by trees even at noon. Our host was extremely responsive and came right away to deal with a water issue and had it back working in no time. Finally, the bathroom was a short walk away and very clean and well stocked and there was even an indoor and outdoor shower.

We had such a great time camping here over the Fourth of July weekend! The views were absolutely beautiful—peaceful, scenic, and the perfect place to unwind. One of the best parts was that it wasn’t overcrowded, which made the whole experience feel more relaxing and enjoyable.
What really made our stay stand out was the amazing camp host. Emily was incredibly friendly and welcoming, helping us get settled in right away. We had a couple of minor setbacks (as you sometimes do when camping), and she went above and beyond to help us out. You could really tell she cared about making sure everyone had a good experience.
Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We booked a last minute campsite at Italian Bar and were very pleased! Clean bathrooms and amazingly beautiful site, Emily was so nice! Getting there was easy though I echo what other reviews say with the last 3-4 miles being rocky/bumpy but we were able to get through just fine with my 2WD HRV.

You've gotta dig & scrape to find gold in California but not when it comes to camping at the Italian Bar campground - you just gotta drive down a bumpy road. What a beautiful spot. Really enjoyed our time there and looking forward to the next visit.

We loved staying here! The campsite had a great view! It was remote and quiet, even with other guests nearby. The bathroom is so nice and the hot tub was a special touch, especially after paddle boarding. It would be tight for 8 people, but worked for 2 tents. We can’t wait to return!

Feeling off seclusion and history but with camp support and such friendly and hospitable hosts, Emily and Blaine.
Falling asleep with the roar of the river was magical. Easy fire roads to walk, especially with dog. And some mining trails along river. Great spot for kids to run around and bike.
3.5 miles of gravel road so awd recommended and add 15 mins to whatever the navigation tells you. And you probably don’t want to do the drive more than once a day, so plan ahead.
I can’t wait to go back. Dog friendly too

We loved camping in our fifth wheel at Rescue Ranch! Cynthia is so friendly and helpful- even gave us farm fresh eggs which we really appreciated! The site is private, peaceful and love that it's a pull through.
