Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. Know, you're supporting a 501c3 charity and all the revenue goes to support the animals.This booking is for the Treehouse, and while it's only 1/2 a mile from the city limits, it has a rural feel and is centrally located to all wineries and most of the major equestrian facilities including Galway Downs, Green Acres, and California Ranch Company. For those who are coming to Temecula for horse shows, we also have a large barn with bedded stalls and turnouts (for an additional fee). There are designated horse trails right outside our gates which will even take you to Galway Downs and California Ranch Company. If you're into golf, you can enjoy Temecula's 7 PGA golf courses or Pechanga Casino which are also within a short driving distance to the farm. If horses or golf isn't your thing, you can visit Temecula Valley wineries which are all ~ 1/2-3.8 miles of the cottage gates. The wineries are not within walking distance of each other, UBER is only too happy to come here and pick you up! If you're not interested in any activities and simply want a "staycation," you can hang out here where you're welcomed to walk around the farm and interact with the animals. At night, enjoy the sounds of serenity.

Villa Macala is 15 minutes from Diamond Valley Lake where you can enjoy a wildflower trail, fishing or mountain bike trails, museum and water park. It is 20-30 minutes to Pachea Trail and Simpson Park where you can enjoy more great hiking and mountain bike trails. It is also a 30-minute drive to Temecula Wine Country.
We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo!
GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. For those who are coming to Temecula for horse shows, we also have a large barn with bedded stalls and turnouts (for an additional fee). There are designated horse trails right outside our gates which will even take you to Galway Downs and California Ranch Company. If you're into golf, you can enjoy Temecula's 7 PGA golf courses or Pechanga Casino which are also within a short driving distance to the farm. If horses or golf isn't your thing, you can visit Temecula Valley wineries which are all ~ 1/2-3.8 miles of the cottage gates. The wineries are not within walking distance of each other, UBER is only too happy to come here and pick you up! If you're not interested in any activities and simply want a "staycation," you can hang out here where you're welcomed to walk around the farm and interact with the animals. Villa Macala is 15 minutes from Diamond Valley Lake where you can enjoy a wildflower trail, fishing or mountain bike trails, museum and water park. It is 20-30 minutes to Pachea Trail and Simpson Park where you can enjoy more great hiking and mountain bike trails. It is also a 30-minute drive to Temecula Wine Country.
We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

My mom and I came to relax at Granite Mnt. for two days. Ken was an amazing host, communicated promptly and was extremely responsive. Granite Mnt. cabins are beautiful, set amongst manzanita trees and huge boulders. Although I didn't have my children along, I could imagine that children would have an amazing time climbing boulders and chasing lizards. The site is private (although we were the only visitors there) with a beautiful picnic table in the manzanita trees. As soon as the sun goes down beautiful lights turn on to create a beautiful ambience. We moved from the porch to the table to the fire pit. The bathroom and shower is in the cabin, which was great for my 78 year old mom (who made it up the hill)! The cabin is perfect for two people. As in southern California we could hear traffic from the nearby road at certain times of day. That was the only little bummer, but I am a stressed mom so always looking for quiet. I would return in a heartbeat.

Weekend Trip to Campo Nopalito
Jacob is super accommodating and just nice all-around! He responded right away whenever I messaged him. When we got there, the Eureka cabin was so cute, and the sun on the porch felt very nice. While it was cold at night during this time, Jacob provided extra blankets for us. We also bought firewood for the firepit in front of the cabin, and pizza oven wood to make pizzas! The outdoor kitchen is STOCKED with more than just basic seasonings and kitchenware. The outdoor shower runs hot water easily and is decently covered. Walking around the land feels very much like a camping outdoor experience. Gertie (their dog) was also very friendly and loved being around us

Splitrock was one of the biggest highlights of our trip from San Diego all the way up to San Fransisco RV camping all the way. We camped 11 nights and chose to spend three of them at split Rock, making it out last stop in the way back down. The grounds are AWESOME, tons of great walks and nature, extraordinary views at night, minimal light pollution so you could see many cobstillations and plants from the very cool observation deck. My son lived the goats. The bathroom and facilities were clean and ample throughout the grounds. We stayed at the communal campground and also at a Van Life site one night were we met some very cool folks who were also van camping. Great walks and light level hiking throughout. The folks we met camp hosting were also super friendly and helpful. Also, Fallbrook is very close by with a grocery store and a couple nice taco spots and stuff. Lastly, the drive up and back down to and from the grounds is incredibly beautiful with awesome twistys and excellent views.
All in all, I could not recommend Splitrock more highly, and this is after camping up and down the coast in all sorts of places. 5 stars all day.

This place was absolutely magical. The observatory deck has stunning 360° views overlooking both the mountains and the ocean, truly breathtaking. Ben, the owner, was so friendly and welcoming, and his hospitality really made the stay feel special. The camp host was also incredibly sweet and helpful; she greeted me when I arrived, directed me to my campsite, and stayed communicative the whole time.
The property itself is gorgeous, peaceful, tranquil, and serene. Goats roam freely around the land, and the owners’ shepherd‑like dogs were such a sweet addition to the experience. It felt like stepping into a little off‑grid paradise.
The amenities were great too: off‑grid hot showers, flushable toilets, and everything was clean and well maintained.
Such a beautiful space and an unforgettable stay. I’ll definitely be back. 😊

Stayed in the Treehouse. The room is small with a full sized bed, so if you bring your dog, bring a small one as we did. The outdoor patio above the vintage truck bed adds to the square footage. The host Sean was very pleasant and informative. There is a nice propane fire pit down below. Lots of farm animals with some friendly farm dogs. Although rural, the town of Temecula is nearby with plenty of restaurants.

I decided on a last minute spur of the moment camping trip with my pup and we loved Campo Nopalito so much! The cute and cozy A shaped cabin, fully stocked kitchen with pizza oven, eating and rest areas, bathroom, and beautiful grassy areas was convenient and perfect for a low effort camping experience. Jacob was very kind and helpful and we’ll definitely be back with pizza ingredients to try out the pizza oven next time.

Would absolutely recommend Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch — it truly feels like a hidden paradise.
The views are incredible — during the day you can see all the way across San Diego out to the Pacific Ocean, and at night you get the best of both worlds: the glow of city lights below and a sky full of stars above your head. Whether you love camping or not, this place might just change your mind.
One important thing to keep in mind is the drive up. The off-road section from the bottom to the campsite is no joke and definitely not ideal for a regular city sedan. A 4WD SUV is highly recommended. We even ended up rescuing a truck that was stuck on the side of the cliff — thankfully we had a tow rope with us. The drive is fun and adventurous, but make sure you’re prepared and confident with off-road conditions.
Everyone in our group already agreed we’re coming back again — and next time with a vehicle fully ready for off-roading to make the experience even more fun.

A great experience for a first time HipCamper. Last minute decisions led us to this spot. We normally do BLM but with the recent weather, we decided to do something closer to home. We were pleasantly surprised at how awesome the view was. You can see as for as you can. The sunrise and sunset alone lets you appreciate the little things in life. We were at hilltop hideout for the night. It was 5 vehicles and 7 people. There’s a few spots that are flat but if you’re in a RTT like us, you’ll want to bring leveling blocks or look for some rocks to help level out your vehicle. The fire pit up top was nice. Just sat around and talked for a few hours and just tell stories. We didn’t meet Ben at first but everything was pretty smooth. Having a bathroom nearby and running water at our campground was very nice. The goats that roam the place along with the barn cats and guardian dogs are very friendly. Would recommend staying here.
PS: The observation deck is also something everybody should check out!

Weekend Trip to Campo Nopalito
The A frame was a nice cozy experience and the land around was clean, beautiful, and quiet. The fire pit near by gave a really nice ambiance and Jacob was super nice and accommodating.
The shared kitchen, eating area, and common place was clean and a really nice homey touch.
I can’t wait for the weather to warm up and I will absolutely be back!

I love how far you are from other campers. Also our site had a stunning view. The fire pit area was great as well. Two water faucets near by was convenient. We met one of the dogs watching over the sheep and she was super friendly. My kids were really fond of her.
Met Ben on our last day after checking out. Seems like a nice fella.

2 nights at Robin's Nest
The airstream was awesome! Very updated and the decor was lovely! The bed was sooo comfy! The best part was being able to wake up and right outside of the window see the cutest Alpacas! All the animals there were so cute, and they even had a cool little jacuzzi! Would def plan another return trip!

A relaxed farm setting with steers lowing, chickens cackling, roosters crowing, and Hosts Bernie and Hoa cultivating gardens, moving soil with a tractor, sharing eggs and homemade beef jerky, also inviting us to sit by their fire.
Wonderful hosts and a great place to stay. The sites are level, private and offer hook ups. Return visitors!

We loved visiting Vicki's land! The tent was a perfect size for my husband, dog, and I. The grounds had beautiful views, trails, and the other camping sites well spaced out. I would definitely recommend camping here and would love to return again soon!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Splitrock’s Hilltop Hideaway. We had the whole area to ourselves and stayed on the upper level which gave way to spectacular views of the entire valley. We had an unexpected treat as a whole tribe of goats came up and hung out with us for a while and one of their sweet dogs. Looking forward to going back in the summer and would highly recommend.

We loved everything about it. The facilities are really well kept, and the campsites are so far away from each other that it feels you are alone... lots of interesting hiking and let's not forget the stars of this trip, baby goats! Oh my they were adorable. Everyone is very friendly therevas well. 10/10 super recommended.

This place was exactly what it says it is, the views are stunning, and there is lots to explore. Perfect place if you have a doggie who needs to run around as well. Vicki is super welcoming and friendly, and leaves you be while you are camping. Bringing a bundle is a good idea, but you can always find food nearby to keep the fires going. Made it up there in my Corolla which is really low to the ground. Just make sure you are paying attention to the road if you have a low car like mine, because there’s a lot of spots you can bottom out but there is always a way around them. If they are booked up you will see and hear the other campers around you. Overall a really good vibe and would reccomend to anyone. A little cold up there so layer up.
