3 nights at Hideout Mountain Lodge

I had the pleasure of discovering Hideout Mountain Lodge during a break between work assignments, and it turned out to be such a delightful getaway. I was impressed by the variety of accommodation options available, from camping spots to RV and cabin rentals, all with incredibly scenic views. Initially, I had planned to camp for my entire stay. However, the weather took an unexpected turn with cold temperatures and rain on my last night. The lodge staff were exceptionally kind and offered me a cabin at a discounted rate, which I truly appreciated. I'm already looking forward to a future visit to Hideout Mountain Lodge and hope to bring along some friends and/or family next time to share the experience.

A peaceful retreat, with amenities. From sunrise to sunset beautiful light and views. Stargazing under the moonlight and if your lucky the moon will shine into the windows.

Weekend Trip to Dutchman Canyon

This was a very scenic site. Gorgeous valley with green hills. There are a couple trails with amazing views. Philip was very hospitable and good with communication. For those of you that are more modest it is an outdoor bucket for bathrooms. The campsites make you feel isolated with free space around you. Definitely recommend

What a wonderful, beautiful place to stay. Thank you to Davida for creating the most comfortable, kind, clean, and even color coordinated experience. I seriously can’t say enough. My partner and I and my son (he’s 12) all stayed in the trailer and we got to experience the poppy super bloom, listen to owls and coyotes, and rest our weary bones so joyfully. There were awesome snacks, coffee, pineapple juice and drinks, all the utensils, mugs, cooling gear and accoutrements one could hope for. We made a delicious dinner in the bbq, had a little fire into the evening and made s’mores, and Davida even had cornhole and connect four set up which we happily played! The nature around the area is beautiful, and the farm area is so neat and tidy and tastefully set up. In fact everything was extremely tastefully dialed in. We had stayed the night before in a pretty unfortunate motel and this stay in Warner Springs totally saved the day! Thank you. So cozy. Davida even brought us down the BEST cookies I’ve ever tasted in the morning. Her friend makes them. Anyhow- I’m so grateful for the experience!

It was my first time camping overnight in the tent and I have to say it’s a beautiful area. The host is wonderful. Provides everything you need. The property lives up to its expectations. It’s just a good place and quiet area to get away.

Beautiful, and lush ranchland, my family and I enjoyed emerging ourselves in nature but still having plenty of amenities. Those living on the property were at close proximity to our tent, but we still felt like we had privacy. Even when running into someone they were friendly and we loved getting to know a few of them!

Phillip’s campsite was amazing. Let’s start with our arrival. Phillip was extremely welcoming and responsive as ever!! If we had any questions for arrival he responded in MINUTES!! Checking in was super easy just please ensure to follow directions. The campsite was super cool, clean, and spacious. We would camp here again no hesitation!!! All the camp sites were great!!! Can’t wait to come back and again we can’t say enough good things about this campsite and host. We even were able to go on a great hike with our two dogs off leach!! Great place for pups who like a bit of outdoor time.

My wife and I, along with our two pups, spent a few unforgettable nights at this beautiful campsite. The drive to the top was an adventure in itself, and the panoramic views along the way were absolutely breathtaking. We also really appreciated the thoughtful amenities, having running water and a flushable toilet made our stay even more comfortable. We can’t wait to come back and experience it all over again!

Weekend Trip to Hideout Mountain Lodge

I had an amazing stay at this campground and will definitely be coming back! The site was incredibly clean and peaceful—exactly what I was looking for. The toilet was well-maintained, and although the hot water heater for the outdoor shower wasn’t working during my stay, I still enjoyed a brisk navy shower. There’s something refreshing about showering outdoors, and I actually loved it. The view from the top of the site was stunning, with a sweeping overlook of the valley that made mornings and sunsets extra special. At night, the distant sound of cows mooing added a unique and calming touch to the experience—felt totally immersed in nature. There were some really thoughtful touches around the campground too, like string lights, a cozy hammock, and a tire swing that gave the place a fun, homey vibe. I do wish they sold firewood bundles down at the saloon—it would’ve made campfires easier to plan. But other than that, the site had everything I needed. The shade here is also perfect, and I imagine it would be ideal for summer camping. Can’t wait to return!

7 nights at Rogue Farm

I highly recommend staying at Rogue Farms for an “out in the country” feel just 5 min. to town for restaurants, grocery, ice., etc… On the farm you’ll enjoy hearing and seeing the cows, chickens, and horses… but not smelling them. The views of Mt Woodson and surrounding hills are gorgeous, especially at sunset. Dinner with the family at the picnic table provided was a bonus! The fire ring was available as well. Rogue Farm Stand has a surprisingly wide variety of items. We enjoyed the sweet oranges, pesto sauce, mushrooms, and lemons. Erin and Chris are welcoming, accommodating, and not at all obtrusive. They make you feel like the property is actually yours while you’re visiting! So relaxing with gorgeous views!! We are looking forward to our next stay at rogue Farms!!

Weekend Trip to San Diego Canyon Creek

I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to a friend! The area is a lush green forest with a small running steam/waterfall and a bunch of croaking frogs. The bathroom with a shower was great! The area is relatively compact, and with 3 separate sites it got a little tight, but it was perfect for me!

4 nights at Cashews Garden

I found Dane & Rebekah’s spot looking for an alternative to an expensive hotel stay while visiting San Diego, and that was certainly what I got—but the real highlight here is the good folks, whose company you’ll truly enjoy if you’re also good people. From the moment we met Dane he was hospitable and considerate, and it only got better from there. Truly a connection to remember. My kiddo even asked if we’d get to see Dane again—I hope so! (Rebekah was out of town, but very responsive and friendly). The spot for the tent was ample, shaded and reasonably level. There was a decent amount of traffic noise all night from nearby roadways, but I’m a light sleeper and I didn’t find it completely prohibitive to getting a good night’s rest. It’s a gated property, so it feels very safe. There was a trampoline for the kiddo, and a pool as well, though it was a little cold for swimming. The camper available to use has a very narrow bathroom that I had to open the door of in order to wipe 😂 but still nicer than a typical camping toilet, and more private. It was also nice to have hot water for showers and washing dishes and such. We also discovered a couple of nice spots in the area—Burning Beard Brewery, great beer and music and a friendly anarchism vibe—and La Posta de Acapulco, very yum breakfast. Very pleased with our longish stay camping on this private property in El Cajon! Thanks Dane (and Jay!) for a memorable time!

I enjoyed both the land and the sense of community. Shady grove had plenty of shade for my rig and my table and chairs. Wish I had more time to explore all the nearby hikes.

Weekend Trip to Hideout Mountain Lodge

There are many things to love. The view on the Perch is spectacular, wide open yet secret and intimate. The restaurant/bar down the hill has some fun music and is a good place to hang out. The location is just minutes away from Julian so we can hop into town when we want. We love it, our dogs love it. We will come back when we need to escape just for a couple of nights.

Wildlife in the area includes: Quail, Rattle Snakes, Lizards, Ravens, Roadrunners, Tarantulas, Rosy Boa, Mule Deer, Pack Rats, Bob Cats, Coyotes and at times Bighorn Sheep are spotted by Table Mountain. About the property Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property. We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away). We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors! Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though. About the listing Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property. You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. Dutchman Canyon

This 150 acre slice of heaven contains an isolated private ephemeral stream that has run the last two years from January to July. Located down a narrow bumpy dirt road off of Highway 94 Dutchman Canyon is at 1300 feet above sea level, The temperature in Dulzura remains nice year round. There are many Oaks, Sycamores, Eucylptus, Pepper and Pine Trees on the property. The fire road has been cleared to the top of the grade and a slight ocean view is available down the Otay Valley Road view line for hikers or mountain bike enthusiasts. A hiking trail has also been cleared to a stand of Eucylptus trees on the hillside with a pond area at their base on the west facing slope. The Dulzura winery is located across the valley and we are only 1/8 mile from the General Store of Dulzura. The Tecate Border crossing to Mexico is 10 miles south of the property. Located a few miles west of Deer Valley we have deer in the canyon year round looking for fresh water from the ephemeral stream. A 19th century concrete cistern holds water year round at one location in the stream bed. Please do not burn the dead oak firewood from the property.

SAN DIEGO CANYON CREEK is a SMALL PATCH of WOODS, NEAR a ROAD, in a NEIGHBORHOOD. In the midst of the trees we have a great view of the stars at night. Harbison Canyon is surrounded by rocky peaks, with a creek! We have multiple species of song birds, owls, hawks, and other wildlife that live in this Riparian Habitat. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round! It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. We have a fenced in place for your dog but you need to walk through where the donkeys and horse are to get there. Tiny dogs can escape under the gate . Animal manure around the field and pin. And to clarify due to someone asking! We don’t want people inside the animals pins just hanging out. We just don’t want anyone to get hurt but if you have a dog, you will pass through the donkey pin to the dog pin. The gate closes and separates the dog area from the donkeys and horse. It need to be open when your down because they sleep in there. They are sweet and have never kicked or bit anyone and if you have a dog you get a full tour. All of our guests with dogs have had no issues at all! If your dogs are large animal friendly then we are good with them being off leash!! We love dogs! Just know that the entrance gate opens and closes as we and our guests come and go at our home. We have a trampoline Basketball goal Outdoor Fireplace Above ground saltwater pool that you are welcome to use. We will be here when you check in to show you around. You will receive a gate code on arrival so you can come and go. We are family friendly No drugs or heavy drinking No leaving children unattended No entering into animals pins.
