Whether you’re looking to stay “put” or your plans include adventuring during the day and hitting the bars at night, you’ll be centrally located.
We’re surrounded by horse properties, so it’s not unusual to see riders out. In fact, if you’re lucky, you might even spot one going through the Starbucks drive-through! A perfect location to camp and experience all the adventures the area has to offer. Ideal for anything from ATV and jeep trips to Crown King, camping, hunting in nearby public lands, visiting the area's mining and native history, or just to spend some quality time in the Sonoran Desert.
This private pad is large enough for a few RVs and all the toys. 4WD vehicles are highly recommended, and mandatory during poor weather or when pulling a trailer. The 12 miles of dirt roads get heavy traffic and are usually in poor condition with extensive washboard and rocks, requiring slow driving and extra attention.
Winters at this 2600 foot elevation can bring a few inches of snow. Summers put on the seasonal monsoon show, Spring and Fall are always enjoyable with cooler nights, often even chilly.
There are the usual desert critters to beware of: bark scorpions, rattlesnakes of all kinds, mountain lions on the prowl, and some poisonous spiders. Other abundant wildlife is also present: foxes, skunks, javelina, bobcats, mule deer, ringtail cats, raccoons, coyotes, and many kinds of birds.
You'll likely also see herds of wild burros and some cattle grazing nearby, they tend to leave droppings everywhere. Target practice is common in the area and even allowed at this site. There is a large stone firepit for guest campfires, firewood may be provided but not guaranteed. A large trash can is available on site for guests, please use it.
There is no water available at or near the site, you will need to bring all the water and supplies you require during your stay. The nearest services are along Lake Pleasant Pkwy. off Highway 74 and four miles further south at Happy Valley Rd. Another large shopping area is at Highway 74 and I-17.

We have two casitas on our property, and we also offer spots for those wishing to stay in their own van; however, these spots do not have restroom or electric hookups.
We also have a stationary 35-foot fifth wheel with an enclosed patio area. It features a front master bedroom with a queen bed, a kitchen, a bathroom with shower, a half bath, and a back area that can double as additional sleeping space. There’s also an indoor gas fireplace, plus access to an outdoor fire pit and grill. We discovered Hipcamp by accident while looking for a place to car camp ourselves and instantly fell in love with the community and shared sense of adventure and camaraderie not found in hotels. While you’ll feel miles away from it all the second you drive through the private gate, the quirky Western/biker town is just a couple of miles away. Whether you’re looking to stay “put” or your plans include adventuring during the day and hitting the bars at night, you’ll be centrally located.
We’re surrounded by horse properties, so it’s not unusual to see riders out. In fact, if you’re lucky, you might even spot one going through the Starbucks drive-through! We’re within a 5-minute drive of both Dove Valley and Rancho Mañana golf courses, quite a few places to rent ATVs, and amazing hikes ranging from short and easy to climbing Black Mountain—which can be seen from just about anywhere on our property—and everything in between. Oh, and did I mention the temperatures are 5–8 degrees cooler than Phoenix?

A perfect location to camp and experience all the adventures the area has to offer. Ideal for anything from ATV and jeep trips to Crown King, camping, hunting in nearby public lands, visiting the area's mining and native history, or just to spend some quality time in the Sonoran Desert.
This private pad is large enough for a few RVs and all the toys. 4WD vehicles are highly recommended, and mandatory during poor weather or when pulling a trailer. The 12 miles of dirt roads get heavy traffic and are usually in poor condition with extensive washboard and rocks, requiring slow driving and extra attention.
Winters at this 2600 foot elevation can bring a few inches of snow. Summers put on the seasonal monsoon show, Spring and Fall are always enjoyable with cooler nights, often even chilly.
There are the usual desert critters to beware of: bark scorpions, rattlesnakes of all kinds, mountain lions on the prowl, and some poisonous spiders. Other abundant wildlife is also present: foxes, skunks, javelina, bobcats, mule deer, ringtail cats, raccoons, coyotes, and many kinds of birds.
You'll likely also see herds of wild burros and some cattle grazing nearby, they tend to leave droppings everywhere. Target practice is common in the area and even allowed at this site. There is a large stone firepit for guest campfires, firewood may be provided but not guaranteed. A large trash can is available on site for guests, please use it.
There is no water available at or near the site, you will need to bring all the water and supplies you require during your stay. The nearest services are along Lake Pleasant Pkwy. off Highway 74 and four miles further south at Happy Valley Rd. Another large shopping area is at Highway 74 and I-17.

This was a perfect place to stay. It was very quiet and very private but yet super close to everything. There’s a handful of beautiful, quiet, and friendly chickens in the yard to appreciate.
We were even able to do a quick load of laundry while we were there. These hosts are the best!

This is a large spot next to Gene’s property with great, easy access to the Verde River. You are in a rural neighborhood so not only do you have the river to lull you to sleep but you may hear cows, dogs and even a donkey every once in awhile. The spot is next to a road that is used by others taking advantage of the river but it is day use only so you do not get any road noise at night. There are plenty of cozy spots to pick on the property. If you have a trailer, you will need to do some leveling and backing up can be a bit tight. It is a great choice if you want to play in the Verde!

Super cute space and very gracious host. The train going through yard,(not really, less than 1 block though, but felt like so close you could touch it). The horn blew THREE separate times in sequence in the middle of the night. For a convenient, safe, quick stop, it fit the bill. For any true rest and sleep you would be very frustrated.

Margarita Ranch is such a unique and beautiful place to stay! It was the perfect introduction to the Phoenix area for us. So many huge, beautiful saguaros, super dark at night to see the sky lit up with stars, and the friendliest pigs, horses, and donkeys to pet. Macy was a super communicative and hospitable host. We even found a wonderful hike to do after we checked out that was an under 15 minute drive from the site— Jewel of the Creek Preserve. We had such a great time.

I enjoyed my two nights here and was able to get my 25' travel trailer in and out with out issue. Shawn and the family were friendly but mainly stayed towards towards the front of the lot (in the house) and gave me plenty of privacy in the back. Their dog seemed sweet but they kept her inside so she didn't interact with my sometimes excitable pair who invaded her space. Overall I'd recommend and would stay here again when passing through Phoenix.
