While normally we do a full camp, sometimes a mixed purpose trip means you can't tote all your gear. SoCal was the perfect option for the in-between (just shy of full-on glamping), offering a luxury tent and bed, fire pits, bath facilities, and the perfect location right on the river (gorgeous!), with short drives to some of the best MTB and hiking trails in the southern Sequoias. Hot showers weren't working during our outing, but the icy water was bracingly refreshing after a hot day on trail, and the mountain views from inside the beach style shower were pretty epic. Helpful to have access to purchase ice across the road at the lodge, and Carrie was rad with morning check-ins to make sure all was OK. We didn't want to use the heater they provided (nothing wrong w/ it, just prefer to feel more outdoorsy), so she brought us an extra cozy-as-heck blanket.
As with any site, sometimes other campers suck, and there were a couple inconsiderate parties who rolled in the last day we were there. The tents are packed in really (too) tight, so be aware of the potential for your neighbours to keep you up all night or otherwise irritate you being right in your face. It's probably the only detail I would change - to make at least a few sites set off from the rest. If I'm glamping anyway, I'd buck up extra for a bit more privacy and breathing room.
Overall, if you go during the week when there are fewer bookings, you can probably do no better than SoCal Camp. 10/10 will stay again.

The location and tent was great. The tent had no power so we were happy that we brought some extra lanterns. There was a heater but it required a camping propane tank that we did not have. But this can easily be purchased in the nearby town.

Overall a great stay. The tent was clean and cozy with the sound of the river near by. The mattress and bedding was comfortable and clean. I would recommend this camp site!! Just make sure to bring an extra light source and blanket.

We had a few doubts before booking our stay, mainly because of the “under construction” aspect. And yes, there are some things under construction, some areas that need developing, some roads that need leveling, some cables that need to be buried and secured. But if you have some common sense, you won’t let that get in the way of a wonderful stay. I loved how rustic everything at the camp was, while providing all the comforts of modern life: heating, electricity, flush toilets and hot showers. The place is incredibly clean and I absolutely loved being able to shower under the starts. And yea, I very much prefer the stay at this glamping site than any hotel in the area because in a pandemic, I would never feel as safe in an air-conditioned (air recycled) hotel than I did in the open, fresh air at SoCal.

Awesome spot! Fished and got several good size trout which was promptly cooked at our tents camp fire. Absolutely perfect setup/spot for a weekend/week. I think I saw it advertised but the spot across the street does not have firewood but does have ice however a $10 minimum for cards (who cares I just bought some more ice and snacks).. nights are cold.. weather reports are liars and pack warm for nights.. days were hot! Overall very happy!

Very nice, brand new campground! Tents are a little close together, but the view is great and the facilities (flush toilets, hot showers) are wonderful.

Pictures and advertising are very deceiving. Ad makes it seem like it’s 3 or 4 tents on site but you get there and there’s almost 20 give or take which are stacked right on top of each other. so if it’s a busy night, you have about 5 or 6 feet between you and the next site which does not allow for much privacy.

The sites lack uniformity. Had to scrounge chairs for my site, as well as plug our site into power. Our site also didn’t have a mosquito net closure which it seemed all others did.

Fire pits are all make shift and lots of them seem pretty unsafe.

Site i chose when booking was nowhere near the site i got when I checked in. So there’s that. Only one tent on the river but not very many spots to decently beach.

Never got an info text the day before or day of. Seems i was just assigned whatever site that had just been cleaned when i checked in with the camp host.

So all in all, if all your looking for is a place to sleep for a night, go ahead. Even then i’d just suggest driving a few more minutes up to Fairview Campground which has always been awesome!

This place is here to make its money and nothing else.

The bed, location and showers were amazing but we wouldn’t go back sadly.

We got lucky and had few people when we stayed but our tent was 6 ft away from another. Booking online I thought there were 4 tents, but it looked more like 30 and not all tents have a view, cute chairs and shade as advertised.

There was a bit of barbed wire on the fire box outside, all felt very rushed. Lots of land had been dug up but you have to park on the other side of the road with fast traffic. Bit of a shame as it has potential to be incredible.
