In November, we had over 10 inches of rain. It was a blessing for our grass and cover crops, however, the spill way at our campground was severely damaged. Therefore, the pictures of our beautiful pond do not portray the actual visual of what you will see. We are in the process of working with engineers to repair the spillway. You will still enjoy the beautiful sunsets, serene environment and we have three other ponds suitable for fishing.
We offer two full camper hookups and several tent camping options. We have a permanent toilet and sink on-site. We are a full time working farm. We have beef cattle, sheep, horses, goats and chickens. For an additional cost, we offer farm tours and we are willing to cook for our guests. There are several wineries and breweries nearby. This is the perfect spot if you need to escape the chaos of life and enjoy some peace and quiet.

The whole property is great to get away from everything. It was our first time camping with a travel trailer and Top of dam was a great location. Plenty of room, great scenery. We rode bikes on all the trails and all the sites were secluded and roomy. It was cold and windy but we made the most of it. We are planning on returning with a bigger group to enjoy it again and utilize more of the amenities.

Don’t be put off by the bumpy road to the property. It’s a lovely riverside (creekside ) location. It was quiet, and we were provided with water, sewer hookup and 30 amp electric. We had some questions and they were answered promptly.
Great place for star gazing. We heard owls at night and lots of birdlife during the day. Possibly coyotes or foxes at night down by the creek. 😊.
We spent a few hours at the nearby Mineral Springs Fossil Park and found some great fossils! Worth the trip.
We are traveling from Maine to California and this campsite was a nice spot to relax for a few days. It’s rural but worth the effort to get there.

Had a wonderful last minute visit camping with my two dogs and cat. The location was easy to get to and on site directions were straightforward and accurate. Conveniently located about 30mins outside of Weatherford. Hosts were friendly and helpful. All the primitive sites were labeled and each has a picnic table and fire ring. Sites are spaced out similar to what you would see at a state park. We stayed at “the point” right on the river bank. It was beautiful and had access to the water. I saw another review about neighbors lights and dogs bark; I am going to assume they stayed in the same site as us because it’s the farthest back on Gypsy moon also making it the closest to the neighboring rv park. I did notice the lights but you could easily reposition to avoid them and the dogs barked when we first got there and were setting up but then settled. Neither bothered us nor are these things in control of the hosts. Shower and bathroom in good working condition. Lots of chickens, geese and goats out near the rvs but none wandered over to primitive camping. Didn’t go in or inquire about bait shop so nothing to review but did see firewood for sale. Overall very good value for the price and I will gladly return if I’m in the area again.

We loved tent camping on Amy's land! Everyone very kind and the area is beautiful and relaxing we had a wonderful time fishing and just being outdoors in nature. It reminded me of childhood spent on my grandparents farm. With all the goats, chickens and ducks etc.

Amy's place is always a welcome reprieve from the world. Situated on a nice piece of property along the river, it is a very chill vibe. If you are tent camping, I recommend the Far Far Away site. This is my second time here, and it's apparent that continued improvements have been made. She did have to shut down the honor system store because.... well, people suck. And I hate that for Amy, because she is such a sweet lady. But I understand the decision.
If you come here, please be kind, respectful, and pick up any trash you see from previous campers.

Overview
About
Located where prairies and plains meet, this historic park and National Historic Landmark once served as the US Army’s northernmost and largest frontier outpost in Texas. Visitors can explore seven restored original buildings, including the post hospital, officers quarters, and bakery, as well as replicas of the barracks (which now holds an interpretive center). History aside, the park is also popular for birdwatching and offers 12 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, while the scenic Lost Creek and nearby Lake Jacksboro and Quarry Lake are popular for swimming, boating, and fishing. The main park and north park offer several campgrounds with space and accommodation spanning tent camping, RV sites, cabins, large group sites, and an equestrian site.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for RVs: Four sites in the West Camping Loop of the Fort Richardson Campground include full hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings.
- Best for water access: Ten tent-only sites at the North Park location offer easy access to a swimming beach and fishing pier.
- Best for families: Eleven cabins feature bunk beds, air conditioning and heat, and full RV hookups outside, but no bathrooms, linens, or pillows.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- For stays during peak season, plan to make a reservation as soon as you know your dates. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to five months in advance.
- If your plans are flexible, visit during the week, during non-holiday periods, or in summer to beat the crowds. The park is open year-round.
- If visiting as part of a group, consider the group site, which can be reserved up to 12 months in advance.
When to go
Spring and fall are the busiest times with the biggest crowds and the best months to see migratory birds. It can get unbearably hot in summer. The park offers numerous seasonal events, including historical reenactments in April and November. Quarry Lake is stocked with trout from December to February, and catfish and bass the rest of the year. Ranger-led tours are available Tuesdays through Fridays, while the historic buildings are open for self-guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays.
Know before you go
- A camp store sells ice, firewood, and souvenirs.
- Fishing from the shore or pier doesn’t require a fishing permit, but fishing from a boat does. The park loans out fishing equipment.
- Fires are permitted in fire rings only; bring your own firewood or purchase from the camp store, as gathering firewood is prohibited in the park.
- Pets are allowed in the park but not inside any buildings, including camping cabins.
