Hogback is a 2000 acre nature refuge and run as a cattle operation, emphasis in sustainability, in native forest. This property is the perfect getaway, and a photographers dream, you can do as little or as much as you like. The seasonal creek draws the wildlife to the area making this a birdwatchers paradise, sit back and watch the wedgetail eagles soar as the red-tailed black cockatoos serenade the afternoon away.
This unique property has inland and coastal fall making it home to several ecosystems, including the semi-permanent waterfall. If you're looking for a bit more than the usual campsite then bring the gold pans and the detectors because we are located at the base of the Mt Rawdon gold mine. Many a yarn will be told of the gold that can be found in the hills around.
A fantastic place to bring the family and the 4 legged friends (on leads as this is a working property). We also have a small barbed wire paddock available for horses by request. BYO horses and yards available at RV sites only.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hogback.
Please note there is no mobile reception - except up the hill.
No toilets. BYO amenities and leave no trace.

Hogback Creek offers a serene escape into nature, where you can unwind by a tranquil creek, explore rugged terrains, and enjoy the company of welcoming hosts, Blodwen and Col. Most visitors cherish the peace and privacy, with uninterrupted views and a chance to disconnect from technology. However, some campers have faced challenges finding the site due to unclear directions, which could dampen the experience for those unfamiliar with the area. Overall, the location is praised for its untouched beauty and is a favorite for those seeking a true wilderness retreat.
4th stay at the property. Got to meet Col this time round. Both Blodwen and Col are amazing hosts. The remoteness and serenity of this place keeps me coming back.
Beautiful serene spot by the creek with water flowing through summer. Was great to swim in when the day got too hot. Host Col was welcoming with plenty of stories. Looking forward to returning when I need to get away from the city.
Hog back creek camping was a beautiful tranquil spot that offered a lot of relaxation as all you had to do was sit by the fire and watch the bubbling Brooke run by…, no phone service which is perfect for a weekend away. Plenty of firewood and shade from the trees on the camp and enough room for three groups of campers in your party. Keep your rubbish out of reach of the visiting farm dogs at night or you will need to clean up the mess they leave. Another note is the google maps says you have arrived about 5k short and you need to take the low road (watercress road) when you get to a Y junction (don’t go right, stay left) and keep going even though it looks a bit sketchy… you will get to a gate that has a Hipcamp sing and HogBack…. Only need to go another 2?k from there to meet up with your host who is lovely…. We will be back!
A great insight into the challenges faced on a working cattle property in rugged country. Plentiful wildlife if you explore and look hard. The interaction with the horses and dogs will put a smile on your face. The real deal with great hosts Blodwen & Col that everyone should experience.
Couldn’t find it - ended up at the mine and had to turn around. Had no reception to send a message to the owner or call. Did not expect it to be so difficult. There is no road sign or directions for the property. Ended up camping on someone else’s cattle property by mistake. What a pity, was so looking forward to relaxing in a natural setting for 1-2 nights.
never really got to stay the directions were hard to follow we ended up going twice.
the first time we went we couldn't find the area that night the host rang to see where we were we explained that we didn't know if we were in the right area as there was no signage.
we returned 2 weeks later and the host was going to meet us but that didn't happen we travelled further along the track until we got to a locked gate we managed to turn around which was very hard having a hybrid camper on tow.
we returned to the area where the host was to meet us and waited and no one turned up.
it was very disappointing payed the money to stay and did 2 trips from Gladstone. it was a waste of money and time.
they need to have more signage to show the way.
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of Blodwen’s place at Hogback Creek, the campsite by the creek was perfect for our setup, we went horse riding on the second day and loved the experience Blodwen gave us.
All and all we will be back and look forward to catching up with Blodwen and Col
A great spot to completely escape into the bush. On a huge mountainous property you can find your own little slice of bush to hide away in. Horse riding trails are fantastic.
A very beautiful quiet peaceful spot, I ended up staying down near the creek and it was so good just to sit around the fire with no technology and get back to nature.
This was our first time staying at Hogback and it was the peace and quiet we hoped for and the site was shady and clean. And our hosts were welcoming and friendly.
We’ll certainly be going back.
Thank you Blodwen for a great back to nature experience. Eveything was as you said and i thoroughly enjoyed my days there. Really loved robbing your lemon tree on my way back to camp after my long hikes and enjoyed the few chats we had. I would definitely recommend your place to anyone that really wants to get away from it all. Best wishes to you
Great relaxing stay at Hogback. Certainly back to nature, quiet. Explored the property & Mt. Perry township. Saw many farm animals. Fantastic hosts. Thanks heaps will be back.
This was our first Youcamp experience and we absolutely loved Hogback! We loved the bush setting and the total privacy and serenity. Blodwen was a fantastic host and we enjoyed her visit on horseback with all the playful, well behaved dogs. We'll definitely be back.
Super friendly hosts and an absolutely beautiful spot! Defintely worth the drive to get there and the tranquillity is perfect. Free firewood was a great bonus!
We'll definitely be back! 10/10
Had a great weekend in the bush. Blodwen was very welcoming and informative on the area... Didn't find my retirement fund but enjoyed it very much.. We will be back
Beautiful big property with loads to explore! Blodwen & Col are keen to provide a true country farm camping experience. Our kids and dog loved roaming free & meeting all the working dogs and we got to feed the ponies. We loved the RV site; now keen to return to the awesome creek campsite (need 4WD).
Great place to camp! We stayed at the topmost campsite with 180deg views of the distant mountains. Sites are large and well maintained, with plenty of isolation in between. Friendly host came for a visit on horseback for a chat about the local area and property. Highly recommended! We'll be back!
