Now essentially a dormitory town for coastal Gladstone, Calliope is a pleasant place to camp in its own right, with caravan parks in the town and beside the Calliope River. It also offers easy access to Lake Awoonga, formed by the damming of the Boyne River, where you can camp, swim, kayak, and fish the lake’s abundant stocks of various species. Nearby Gladstone is a gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, so is a more peaceful alternative to jumping-off points in North Queensland, such as Airlie Beach or Cairns. NO DOGS ALLOWED A large flat grassed area for camping and 200m walk to The Boyne River at Pikes Crossing with access for swimming. There is an area to launch small boats and ideal for canoeing and kayaking in protected waters. Close to Lake Awoonga (4km drive) for fishing and all other aquatic activities along with a great barramundi stocked impoundment. Be sure to check out the Barramundi Hatchery near the dam. There is a large undercover area with tables and chairs, flushing toilets and hot showers and designated campfire area and a fully kitted out commercial kitchen and BBQs for your use. Please ensure this is left clean after your use and don't take what does not belong to you. MAXIMUM stay in alignment with Gladstone Council regulations is 2 weeks. We do not cater for permanents. This campsite is located at Captain Creek. 15kms from Agnes water 1770. on 40 acres with a seasonal creek. We have a lovely natural bush setting with privacy. Suited for off grid campers. You will see kangaroos and lots of bird life to watch. Our region is well known for surfing, however Agnes Water and 1770 are also home to calm inlets tailor-made for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. BYO paddleboard or explore the coastline and waterways by kayak. You can even paddle past Captain Cook’s landing point and on towards the headland to watch the sun set over the ocean (a rare sight on Australia’s East coast). Follow the trail or take your mountain bike along boardwalks and across stepping stones on the 1.5 hr, 3km Red Rock Trail. You can start your adventure at the end of Springs Beach and head south along rocky trails peppered with pandanus palms all the way to the far end of Red Rock Beach. This campsite suits self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. There is access to drinking water and a picnic table for meals. Plenty of space for bushwalking or sit back around camp fire or just read books. There are some great mountain views to be seen while walking around and site seeing, and Eurimbula National Park is close by. I loved this camp! It had been raining so there was no other campers and I had the whole space. It was still a very nice area even after heavy rain. Sophie started a fire for me and I had a very relaxed night. The rooster and chickens came to visit me in the morning and my 2 dogs were very amused at how brave they were. Lovely quiet campsite in a gorge nature filled area. Loads of amenities and little fire pits and a pizza oven which I am sad I didn’t get to use! I wish I had more time to spend there :)

Weekend Trip to 1770 Eco Camp, Agnes Water

This is maybe the best Hipcamp experience I have had. While there were other campers there it still felt nice and private and ‘bushy campy’…but at the same time we had hot showers, well kept toilets and an amazing camp kitchen - fully equipped with everything you could need. THE BEST PART about our experience was the pizza oven - we called ahead about whether we needed to supply wood and while we did bring some of our own they brought us some up anyway to help out and offered some advice on the best way to use the oven! 10/10 would recommend!!

Nice spot about 10 minutes out of the main drag in Agnes Water. We stayed in a spot down by the pond and it was lovely. Pool up top was great too!

Beautifully maintained camping area. Lots of room for the kids and activities.

Couple of days relaxing with my 14yo dog,beautiful spot by dam,lots of birds in the native trees ,went for a long walk on bushtrack,handy to miriam vale to get food,as didnt want to cook,hosts are kind and helpful,definately will come here again

Wow, what a place. Felt like we were camped in a resort garden. So beautiful and peaceful. Excellent host with a great sense of humour. They should be extremely proud of what they have created. The firewood is top notch with an efficient delivery service.
