The best camping in Castle Tower National Park, QLD guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure at Castle Tower National Park, where the untamed wilderness beckons the brave. With no formal walking tracks, this park is a haven for experienced bushwalkers skilled in navigation. The park's remote bush camping offers a tranquil retreat amid eucalypt woodlands and panoramic views from towering granite peaks. Prepare to be self-sufficient and embrace the raw elements of nature in this challenging yet rewarding landscape.

When to go

The best time to visit Castle Tower National Park is during the cooler months to avoid the harsh heat. This period also coincides with the spectacular wildflower displays in late winter and spring. Avoid times of extreme weather, planned burns, or when fire danger is high, as these can lead to park closures and unsafe conditions.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have the necessary bush navigation skills and carry a topographic map and GPS for your journey.
  • Check park alerts for closures or extreme weather conditions before your visit.
  • Be self-sufficient: bring enough water, food, and a portable stove as open fires are not permitted.
  • Mobile phone coverage is unreliable; carry an emergency communication device.
  • Obtain permission from the Gladstone Area Water Board before crossing their land to access the park.
