There are two cabins now on the property, but one is brand new and private and not accessible- it will be vacant for your stay. There is also a private sauna, but is also not accessible. The cabin pictured is in the middle of a private 5-acre property across from Turtle Lake and spans turtle lake road, to Donnelly and Poke Road, so it’s easily defined by the roads around the land. There is no direct access to the lake, but there are many lakes and beaches within a short drive. There are also many quaint towns to visit, beautiful hiking trails to explore all nearby. The main floor has a pull-out double bed, and the loft has 2 sets of bunk beds, ideal for kids. The bathroom facility is a newly built very airy eco-outhouse - you will be pleasantly surprised! There is a sink to wash up, and an outdoor shower, but for now, only cold water is available. This an ideal family getaway or a romantic getaway, I look forward to hosting you!

Our remote off grid property in the forest east of Eagle Lake is a great place to disconnect and decompress. The roadside Bunkie sleeps 2 comfortably and can accommodate a RV trailer or tent as well. Pets are welcome.  The property has a pit toilet, and campfires are allowed in the designated pit. There is also potable water in the bin with an outdoor kitchen and BBQ area. In the winter water would have to be stored inside. Linen not provided. You’ll wake up surrounded by trees and can explore the great hiking, nature viewing, atv trails and boating in the summer months. In the winter enjoy glaming in the propane heated bunkie, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snow machine trails at the door. Wildlife is all around.  Several lakes and parks are nearby, including Mikisew Provincial Park on Eagle Lake, about 20 km south, where you can go boating, paddling, or swimming and Algonquin Provincial Park is close as well with many lakes and hiking trails. Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield.  The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion.  It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort.  The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

This was our second time camping here, and it definitely won’t be our last. The campsite was clean and well maintained, and we were lucky enough to have a site right by the water, which made the whole experience even better. Lisa, the owner, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her guests having a great stay. We had another fantastic camping trip with our group of five and are already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

Great spot, there is traffic on the road but we did have a doe walk through the camp and keep on eye on us while we were there, if you just want a place to sleep after day trips it’s great!

Weekend Trip to Algonquin Lakeview Glamping Dome

This was one of the best places I have stayed at. Beautiful piece of property; they have everything you could need (except I would recommend bringing a hatchet/axe if you plan on having a fire), and it was nice to disconnect. It was incredibly private, quiet, and relaxing. We got to see a couple of loons, a moose and Benny the beaver popped up! Buggy, but that is to be expected out in the woods. Will definitely be back in the future!!

5 nights at Muskoka Wellness Retreat

This was our 2nd time at this gem. We stayed at site#4 this time and it was very spacious. All day sun and great access to the lake. I cooked all our meals over the large fire pit. The wood that we ordered was very seasoned and burned great. Spent a lot of time on the lake with our fishing kayaks and caught many pike. There are no cottages on this part of Vernon Lake so it was very peaceful. The lake is clean and great for swimming which we did quite often. Thanks again for sharing this gem with us again. Weekend Trip to Simple Pleasures

Sheila has a beautiful spot surrounded by lush gardens and a gorgeous river view. Though we were there on a really stormy night, we did not get wet because the tent platform had great drainage. Luckily the clouds parted for us to have dinner on the dock. The walk down to the site was a little longer than expected - but fine if you have good mobility! The outhouse was clean and dry and not too far from the tent area. We enjoyed our stay, Sheila was a lovely and inviting host, it was private and beautiful *bring bug spray!

AMAZING. The only word that can be used. The privacy of Site 1, including having a private beach - the quietness, the seclusion - amazing. For our family, the ability for the dogs to run around was such an added bonus! Lisa & her husband set the bar high for hosts everywhere. Many gather here on winter weekends to skate the kilometre-long loop through the woods. All levels of nordic skiers love the 28 kilometres of groomed ski trails, and snowshoeing and tubing are also available, which can be followed up with hot cocoa by the fire in the visitor centre at its forest-facing glass facade. In summer, hiking, biking, and swimming are abundant—the Beaver Meadow Trail, about eight kilometres long, traverses marshland, streams, and a small pond before ending at an old Oke homestead. The park features about 300 campsites.

Notable campgrounds

Best for quiet relaxation: The beach at Roe Campground tends to be less crowded.
Best for dogs: The northern Lumby Campground is pooch-friendly.

Tips for snagging a campsite

This park fills up incredibly fast. Reserve online five months in advance of the first date of your trip. The online reservation system opens at 7am, so be ready with your site already picked, plus alternatives if your first choice is gone.
Consider booking midweek or during shoulder season when parks are less busy to guarantee a spot. Non-electrical sites tend to be less popular.
If sites are not available, try visiting the Ontario Parks’ Facebook cancellation page to snag someone’s reservation.
If this park is entirely booked, look into reserving a spot at nearby Algonquin Park.

When to go

Winter is really the showstopper here. The visitor centre stays open year-round for rentals including snowshoes, skis, and skates. The 1.3-kilometre skating loop is packed during most weekends. In summer, many families return annually to celebrate under the giant picnic shelters for groups up to 100. The winter cabins book up lightning-fast, so consider winter camping instead.

Know before you go

Try booking your winter trip during a full moon—a nighttime ski under the moonlight can’t be beat.
Consider testing your endurance at the annual Muskoka Ski Loppet.
Watch for when Ontario Parks announces special Fire & Ice Night, when the skating loop is torch-lit between 6 and 9pm.
Don’t forget your winter tires and booster cables, as road conditions can be unpredictable throughout the park. Temperatures in January range between -5°C and -16°C.
The park store sells souvenirs and baked goods, but not groceries. Buy supplies in nearby Bancroft or Huntsville.
