Arabia Mountain Farm

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents6 acres · Stonecrest, GA
We became the owners of this 6 acres in 2020. We have since started a large garden, have goats and chickens, and have had many projects. We love sharing this beautiful space with others! We are surrounded by the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Reserve, 4000 acres of beauty. There are hiking and biking trails, 2 lakes for fishing, kayaking on the South River, or have a lazy day in the woods. So much to enjoy for outdoor lovers. Being under the canopy of the pine trees really helps keep the site cool during Georgia summers. We have a nice outhouse and outdoor shower with hot water that are available to campers. We do live on the property and the bathroom area is shared with others. Welcome!

Goats and Birds at Hideaway Farm

2 sites · RVs3 acres · Tucker, GA
Learn more about this land: We have a suburban hobby farm hidden away in the undeveloped acreage at the back of a 1960s subdivision. Everyone who comes down the driveway says "What?! How is this here? This is so cool!" And they are right. 4 friendly adult goats, 5 free-ranging hens, 5 cartoonishly-cute ducks. It's a happy place! The woods around us support several owls, Coopers hawks, some deer and an occasional red fox. There is a small nature trail that features several beautiful places to meditate by the babbling creek. Access to our neighborhood's recreation area as our guest to the swimming pool is available for an extra fee of $3/person (May-Oct). (For the safety of our goats, your fur babies larger than 10lbs are not permitted. One of our goats lost an eye once to a dog, and she's never fully forgiven me. ) We have several housemates, so parking is limited to street parking (one vehicle for you).  Short 1 min walk to campsite. Amenities on-site- Animal cuddling. Nature Trail. Wildlife Watching. Creek wading. Gardening help. Wi-Fi Amenities Nearby- Bike Path (The PATH Foundation) - 5 min. Stone Mountain Park - 13 min. Goat Camp

4 sites · RVs, Tents7 acres · Jackson, GA
When I moved onto Windy Lane as a child in third grade, our road was a country dirt road. I have a lot more neighbors now, but my little piece of heaven has remained country.  My husband, Randy and I enjoy the peace and quiet we get and the plus of being close to the Interstate for when we need to make trips to Atlanta.  My land is still surrounded by a fence, now rusted, that my Daddy put up when I was a child. The property is big enough for us to enjoy and small enough for us to maintain.  My wildlife camera has captured photos of deer, coyotes, foxes, opossums, raccoons and an occasional dog and cat from the neighborhood.  We hope you will stop by and visit with us. Safe travels and may the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back!Learn more about this land:Pitch your tent in your favorite spot on our 5+ acre lot. Our niche is privacy and our cute little Nigerian Dwarf goats grazing nearby. Once you are on our property, you will quickly forget you are just a mile from Interstate 75. We are located off Exit 205 and are 40 miles south of Atlanta and 35 miles north of Macon. We are just 5 miles from High Falls State Park and Indian Springs State Park (where kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, etc. are available). We are just 3 miles from Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary and 6 miles from Dauset Trails Nature Center. Both are must sees for animal lovers. If you love stockcar racing, we are just 18 miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Activities there aren't just for "race weekends."If shopping is more "your thing," we are just 7 miles south of Tanger Outlet Mall in Locust Grove, Georgia.

The best camping near Panola Mountain State Park guide

Overview

About

Located fifteen minutes from Atlanta, this park is an easily-accessed, family-friendly retreat. There is plenty to keep you busy: angling, boating, hiking, and biking.

Check out the park's range of organized activities, with everything from tree-climbing to archery. Trails through the scenic forest allow you to keep fit and explore.

While in the area, you can explore the wider Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. Take a hike on this iconic mountain, spot some wildlife, and visit a historic monastery.

In the park itself, you can wander around the 100-acre outcrop of Stone Mountain. Try to spot some rare plants, birds and other wildlife as you go. If you're a beginner, there are ranger-led hikes to show you the best stuff.

The park offers five primitive campsites, all of which boast scenic, natural locations close to the lake. Two of the campsites share a fire pit for outdoor fun, and all have picnic tables. At busy times of the year, you should book in advance.

When to go

The best time to visit Panola Mountain State Park is during spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its peak. Summer offers lush greenery but can be hot and humid, while winter provides stark beauty, though some activities may be limited.

Know before you go

  • Reservations are required for ranger-led hikes to explore the mountain's unique ecosystem.
  • Leashed dogs are welcome on select trails, but not in the conservation area.
  • Check the park's event calendar for special activities and educational programs.
  • Remember to bring $5 for vehicle parking, or consider an annual pass for frequent visits.
  • For your safety, always stay on designated trails and follow park guidelines.
