Come experience winter! Get cozy in the quiet guesthouse on our farm. With on-site snowshoe and fat bike trails, a hill for tobogganing and an outdoor fire pit, there is non-stop fun in the winter! We are only 35 minutes from the popular skate trail and groomed cross country ski trails at Arrowhead Provincial Park and day-trip distance to Georgian Nordic, Wasi Ski Area and Algonquin Park. Our guesthouse is situated on an old Finnish homestead, on the traditional lands of the Anishinabek and Mississauga Nations. The property is a mix of field, wetland, small stream and forest, along with our active organic vegetable market garden. While the guesthouse is its own private accommodation, we live and work on the same property. We run Missing Link Adventures, focused on providing cycling retreats and farm fresh meal packages. For short-term rentals, we have options for purchasing farm fresh veggies or prepared dishes during the farm season. We are close to Doe Lake and the Magnetawan River system, where you can launch a boat, paddle and fish, and there are two public beaches suitable for small children. Other possible day trips could include a visit to Screaming Heads (walking trails & disc golf course) and The Crystal Cave, an amazing geological museum and crystal shop with other local artisans. The cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway, it's beautifully designed and maintained and is tucked away in the woods which gives you your privacy and lots of trails to explore. I went in early October so got to see beautiful fall colors. Yvonne and Glenn were wonderful hosts, very friendly and lovely people. I'd definitely recommend this place.

We had an amazing time here. Wendi is super friendly and thoughtful, she checked what we needed and reminded us about the cold. The horse experience was the best part. Grooming them felt so calming and the horses are beautiful and very friendly. The firewood amount is really generous and lasts a long time. The campsite is spacious with lots of privacy. At night it was perfect for stargazing, I saw so many stars and even a few shooting stars. The toilet is very clean and everything here feels well cared for. I also admire how much Wendi and her family have built in just a few years, they are really living my dream life. Overall this was way better than camping in a provincial park. Highly recommend and I will definitely come back.

We, three moms looking for a little escape, couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot for our fall weekend. From the moment we arrived, everything about this place felt quietly magical. The setting is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, natural, restorative. The rustle of autumn leaves, crisp fresh air, and unspoiled surroundings made it easy to slow down and breathe. It’s rare to find somewhere so serene, where you can truly unwind. The host was thoughtful and attentive in all the right ways. The tent was comfortable and well-prepared; everything was clean, cared for, and exactly what we needed. The out houses were immaculate—so well kept that they felt more like a pleasant surprise than an afterthought. We left feeling refreshed, reconnected, and inspired. Thank you for the kindness, the care, and the chance to rest in such a lovely place. We very much hope to return!

Lisa's property was amazing! Lots of room, beautiful view of everything. Saw deer every day! Loved the outhouse, we are used to privies at Algonquin but the outhouse was way better - especially with the rain we had. She was great with communication and even checked to make sure we were ok after a big gusty windy rainy period of time. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much Lisa.

We loved camping on Jen’s land! The directions were clear, the trailer was very clean, cozy, and very comfortable. My kids loved seeing the farm animals and we all loved hiking to the waterfall and seeing the beautiful views of nature. The bonfire with marshmallow roasting was a highlight too!

This was one of our favourite Hipcamps. The lake was busier than we are used to but it was a long weekend so totally expected. We appreciated the private feel of the campsite being nestled in our little corner and we customized the site with tarp shelters and a hammock to lay about in the afternoons. The night sky was gorgeous with the moon and the sound of waves to keep us company. One should keep in mind that there are elevation changes at the site that could prove challenging for some. I was able to portage our canoe down to the water and back up to our vehicle but the pitch through the trees and down to the beach could prove tricky. Overall, we liked the secluded, civilized-rustic feel of the space: not Crown Land but sounds of the forest gave it a wild feel.

5 nights at Maple Rivers Log Cabins

August 25 to 30th 2025 Second time up to Maple Rivers Log cabins, Sequin, Parry Sound. Was there last year. Cabin 3, Dariusz,s 3 cabins are set in a beautiful, serene setting surrounded by a mixed forest, of pines, maples, Birch..., they are off grid, nicely spaced , in the center a large community fire pit. Trails to follow to a deep gorge, shower, large fridge freezer to share with fellow hip camper,s, Large BBQ, outdoor sink, kitchen area to wash dishes. Some dishes to use. Garbage container. Pit toilet never smells. The host's friendly dog "Daisy" comes to play fetch with balls or sticks., Maple lake is 20 mins away as is Orrville general store. And Rousseau. Dariusz is very friendly host always willing to answer questions, fix any concerns. His wife is of great help as well. I highly recommend Maple Rivers Log Cabins, and will keep going back. Thank you Dariusz for your hospitality. Thanks for your company Daisy girl. And Tito, Daisy will teach you well. Blessings

I loved my stay at the cabin! Although there is no electricity from the grid, Dariusz uses propane and solar cells to equip the camp with a fridge/freezer, hot water, and light, which I really liked. I loved Daisy, their female Border Collie; she protects the visitors during the nights by sleeping under one of the cabins, and she is a lovely companion during the day! Bring a ball, she loves playing with other dogs with the ball. My dog and I really enjoyed our week there: fresh air, quiet and rustic place, lots of hiking opportunities around, and off-leash walks/play on the property. Will definitely return next year.

Tent camping at Three Ponds was such a lovely experience! The directions to our site were clear and easy to follow, and it was a real treat to have a camp fire and sleep outdoors following our trip to the Rama Pow Wow. The property is gorgeous, and has everything one needs for a comfortable stay. We opted to meet the horses the next morning, and it was so worth it! They were all such sweet and lovely creatures, and Wendi made it such a calm and informative experience! Checking out the peaceful koi pond afterwards was also lovely; would absolutely recommend to friends/ return again!

We had a really good time camping here. There's another site but it's not close enough that you can hear or see them. We enjoyed being able to take our kayaks out into the lake although we didn't catch a single fish or even see life in the lake.

Where to go

Arrowhead Provincial Park

Just northeast of the town centre, Arrowhead Provincial Park is all about its namesake lake. Swim at three separate sand beaches, or get out onto the water in a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard. Then hike 15 kilometres of trails, including one that leads to a tumbling waterfall. In winter, its ice skating trail is a wonder—1.3 kilometres winding through evergreen forest and illuminated by torches at night.

Algonquin Provincial Park

Huntsville sits at the western gateway to Algonquin Provincial Park. Encompassing more than 7,500 square kilometres (larger than the province of Prince Edward Island), the park includes thousands of lakes, eight campgrounds, and 14 interpretive trails, plus a logging museum and an excellent visitor’s centre. Stay along Highway 60 or, even better, paddle a canoe or kayak deep into the interior, where you may just find an entire lake to yourself.

Mikisew Provincial Park

Spread along the shores of Eagle Lake, Mikisew Provincial Park is an excellent park to get out on the water. Get into a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard (all are available to rent at the park office) and paddle around the small islands that dot the lake, or take a dip at one of the three beaches. And when you’re ready for something different, hike one of their four interconnected loop trails, or play 18 on the disc-golf course.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park

A whole different experience than the relatively small lakes that dot Muskoka, Georgian Bay Islands National Park is part of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago. Spend time on the white-sand beaches (lined with aquamarine waters), hike to scenic vistas, cycle through the woodlands, or get on your boat to explore endless islands.

When to go

July and August, the peak summer months, are the hottest and best for getting into the lakes and rivers, which can be downright chilly well into spring. But summer is also extremely busy, with seemingly half of Toronto, just to the south, renting cottages and camping in Muskoka. Bring bug spray if visiting in spring (days can be nice and warm in May, and evenings are nice in June), and know that autumn colours pop in September and October, peaking around Canadian Thanksgiving. While some attractions shut down into fall, there’s plenty to keep you busy in winter, including alpine and Nordic skiing, curling, skating, and snowshoeing.

Know before you go

Huntsville is the largest town in Muskoka and also the best place to stock up on camping and other supplies. Options will be more limited in the smaller, surrounding communities.
Highway 11, which serves as the main street of Muskoka and connects the region with the greater Toronto area, becomes extremely busy on weekends, especially in summer. If driving up on a Friday or down on a Sunday, be prepared for heavy traffic.
If you’re headed north, pack everything you need before heading into the wilderness. Don’t count on mobile service away from town and the main highways.
