Welcome to our farm! Located on 153 acres of land, the Domaine de la Templerie is first and foremost a Table champêtre. To have a rustic table, a good majority of the products served in the restaurant must come from the farm. We transform our product at the farm and sell them at the farm too. We also have a soccer field, volleyball court and horseshoe pit. * Version française * Bienvenue à notre ferme! Camp, Ottawa river, Grenville C-O-G

11 sites · RVs, Tents59 acres · Brownsburg Chatham, QC
Come and enjoy a traditional/rustic camping experience on the mighty Ottawa river. Be sure to bring your water shoes and a canoe or kayak, or you may rent one of ours. C-O-G is located on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, east of the bridge that passes over from Hawkesbury, Ontario. This beautiful (mostly) deciduous forest (situated on both sides of the 344/Rte Des Outaouais), has been in the family for generations. The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and more, with many other outdoor tourism attractions (white water rafting ~15kms, Parc Omega (zoo)) located nearby. By paddle boat, canoe, or other similar shallow depth water craft, one can head upriver, around an island, and loop back through the remaining historic canal. ...It's a historic lazy river! Many amenities are only 1-3km away, such as a gas station (with fast charging), a grocery store and many restaurants including a Tim Hortons and McDonalds. A little History... Our property has played host to a small portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over. Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

Camping near Montréal guide

Overview

Montreal may be Canada’s second-largest city but it’s filled with green space—and surrounded by it. Those craving outdoor adventures don’t need to leave the city limits to get a dose of nature. From the walking trails in Parc du Mount-Royal to biking along the Lachine Canal, enjoying the great outdoors is easy in downtown Montreal. You’ll also find overnight opportunities to go camping, swimming, hiking, and skiing just outside the city.

Where to go

The Eastern Townships

Lying southeast of Montreal, the Eastern Townships may just be one of the prettiest parts of Canada. Dozens of small towns dot the lakeshores and offer mountain views. Hiking, biking, and even canoeing routes connect many of the communities, and outdoor adventurers can easily refuel at maple sugar shacks, cheese producers, farmers markets, and vineyards.

Oka

Just an hour from Montreal, Oka is home to a beautiful provincial park, one of the best beaches in southern Quebec, and its delicious namesake Oka cheese. At Oka National Park, visitors have ample camping options alongside the Lake of Two Mountains. There are additional ready-to-camp tents (perfect for early and late season stays, as they contain a space heater), plus watersports and children’s programming. White-tailed deer, beavers, muskrats, turtles, and mink are frequently spotted and the list of local birds exceeds 200 species.

The Laurentian Mountains

A popular skiing destination, the Laurentian Mountains have year-round camping options for everyone from beginners to experienced trekkers. Visitors can find a mix of tent-sites, cabins, and RV spots, many of which offer easy access to the slopes in winter. Traditional tent and RV spots with laundry and showers abound.

When to go

Camping is at its most comfortable between June and September, when evenings are mild. However, make reservations well in advance for Canada Day weekend and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (celebrated across Quebec on June 24). The Eastern Townships and the Laurentian Mountains offer some of the finest fall colours in Quebec but they’ll be busy with weekend day trippers come mid-October.

Know before you go

  • MEC Montreal sells everything an outdoor adventurer could need, from stoves and freeze-dried foods to mountain bikes.
  • There are a dozen farmers markets in Montreal and many more in the surrounding area. Pick up local bagels, which are denser and sweeter than their New York-style counterparts.
  • Coyotes call southern Quebec home and they even occasionally venture into Montreal. Never feed them and secure your food at night.
