Urban Regenerative Gardens

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents2 acres · Sherbrooke, QC
This rare urban site acknowledges our Abenaki heritage, who camped and lived along these shores for centuries. Our beautiful urban location near highway 410 and Bishop's University, directly on St. Francis river, makes it an exceptional starting point for cyclists who want to enjoy the Route Verte path; fish, canoe, kayak or tube the river or simply explore all Sherbrooke has to offer.  Our birdlife is amazing and is a recognized birding location by provincial authorities, especially for swallows and chimney swifts. A fire pit will be made available, in respect of all fire bans, with firewood available for purchase. In 1910, Agriculture Canada set up a research centre that operated until the 1950's. The property was sold to a family that emigrated to Canada from Europe, to set begin a new life post WW2. In 2015, I purchased the property to return it to its roots - regenerative farming, training, hospitality, poverty relief and healthy living. Be our guest at The Farmhouse, a vibrant small-scale farm with a heart for the earth and its people. (https://www.thefarmhouse.store) Seasonal, fresh farm produce will be available for purchase as well as guided garden tours.   Located within 5 minute walking distance to Lennoxville (Bishop's University).  It's perfect for campers who like to experience "urban" camping. Some road noise. If you are concerned about the weather, the site provides the use of a 8 sleeper tent trailer for your convenience. During the day, you are welcome to relax in it too. Portable water will be provided, but bring your own drinks if possible. As a bonus treat, you are welcome to sleep in a very HIP camper, a 1980 retro dodge camper van. Bilingual service. Prestation bilingue.

Enjoy the quiet shores of the Tomifobia on site or venture out- There is lots to do in this part of the Eastern Townships minutes from the Vermont border. Hike Mount Orford, Mount Pinnacle in Barnston or the Coaticook Gorge, spend the day at the beach- Lakes Lister, Massawippi and Memphremagog are nearby or cross the border into Vermont and swim in the clear waters of lake Willoughby. A fire pit, two picnic tables with umbrellas, four Adirondak chairs, washrooms offer additional amenities to enjoy your stay. Please note that though I only accept 1 group of campers per visit so you can enjoy your intimacy in the evenings with your friends and family, you will not have exclusive use of the food forest during the day as I may need to attend to my trees for weeding, harvesting or other. Most guests leave at some point for an outing so schedules can easily be coordinated. Extras include: a $5 per pet extra charge, $5 hot coffee morning service, $100 private yoga class in my yoga tent and $10 local maple syrup. Camping near Sherbrooke guide

Overview

Situated in southern Quebec and the Eastern Townships region (also known as the Estrie), Sherbrooke is a quaint town teeming with a rich cultural history. After checking off the symphony orchestra and reputable museums, head out for endless outdoor adventures that make it easy for Hipcampers to pack their days full of fun. Find an ideal campsite near Sherbrooke, and stop by one of the many traditional Sugar Shacks offering homemade maple syrup taffy sticks (freshly harvested from the tree and poured on a bed of snow). Or settle on an RV campsite, and wander through the downtown centre to view towering murals bringing life to vacant walls.

Where to go

Lac Magog

Magog is a small township about 30 minutes outside Sherbrooke with lakes on every side. Camping at Lac Magog provides close access to aquatic activities like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimming. As winter unfolds, temperatures drop, making RV camping a prime choice. During this time, winter activities take advantage of the snow blanketing the landscape, with cross-country skiing, skating, and snowshoeing dominating the outdoor scene.

Mont-Orford National Park

Take a short drive (roughly 30 minutes) to scope out Mont-Orford National Park. It promises tons of room for adventure with 55 kilometres of cross-country ski trails and multiple hiking trails. Stretch your legs after a long car ride with the La Super trail that reaches the peak of Mont Orford to witness stunning views of the Eastern Townships. Or take the Hybrid Lift—a gondola and chair lift system that transports passengers 850 metres up to the top of the mountain. Spaces fill up quickly, so book tickets online in advance.

Mont Bellevue Park

Offering downhill and cross-country skiing, a snow tube park, tennis courts, dozens of hiking trails, and an archery range, it’s no surprise that Mont Bellevue is the largest park in Sherbrooke. The native ecosystem is bursting with biodiversity, making it an excellent spot for bird watching, even though it’s  in the city. Bring or rent a mountain bike to cover as much terrain as possible, then head back to a Sherbrooke cabin for some R&R.

When to go

Every season in Sherbrooke has its benefits, but certain attractions are best seen during specific times. If rainy days and wet feet are a no-go, steer clear of springtime when all that snow starts melting (waterproof shoes are a must for March and April). If snowy activities are a top priority, the middle of winter is best. November to April will be cold, with the lowest temps seen in December, January, and February (-30°C is common). June, July, and August are prime months for swimming and fishing with temperatures hanging around 25°C.
