M.Ruth Retreats in the Orchard

2 sites · Lodging100 acres · Tay Creek, York
Retreat from your daily life however you choose with M.Ruth Retreats, located at 30 Orchard Lane in Tay Creek, New Brunswick. On this 5-acre property, you will find 2 bell tents nestled into the wild remnants of a once commercialized apple orchard and surrounded by an additional 90+ acres of mature forest through which the Tay River winds. After a long day spent partaking in any number of outdoor activities on the property or nearby, you can enjoy a beverage by your private fire pit or turn out the fairy-lights swaying from the trees and tuck yourself into your comfortable bed. If you would prefer to socialize with other guests, the shared lodge is only a 5-minute walk away from every tent and offers a communal fire pit, barbecue, games room/library, outdoor seating area, and softshell hot tub in addition to a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom and dining area. When the caretaker is on the property, there will almost assuredly be a pot of coffee on the counter, oftentimes next to a cooling pan of something-complimentary-and-delicious. Other snacks and travel necessities like toothpaste and bug spray are available at a minimal, cash charge. While in the lodge, also keep an eye out for the price tags attached to paintings, decorations, and even furniture pieces. The caretaker is an avid collector of vintage and antique items and happy to sell them at a reasonable price to interested guests in order to make room for more! As if you needed another reason to book your getaway - all excess revenue generated by HipCamp bookings will go towards funding an annual cohort of youth who will be invited to retreat for free to connect with nature and learn important environmental leadership skills to bring home to their communities.

Dream Seed Farm

4 sites · RVs, Tents18 acres · Fredericton, Queens
My dream has always been to have a farm to share all the beautiful abundance of life and lots of space to play. Since 2008, I have worked in my home studio sewing Hanging HUGS custom luxury hammocks and shipping them around the world to make the world a cozy place. HUGS have also funded my world travels and humanitarian projects, teaching many people how to make hammocks. You too can learn to sew your own HUG and enjoy it here. An expedition sea kayaker and expert rock climber with more than 20 years experience giving clients a unique look at our province, it's my pleasure to introduce you to my favourite spots. Our sailboat is spacious, comfortable and fun... ready when you are. This farm is a school of life. I am happy to share what I have learned about growing food, and my wife is an amazing cook who can teach how to make Korean food. Lots to do to fill a week, or just kick back in a hammock for a day by the pond, writing journal to reflect, soaking in the peaceful feelings. Learn more about this land: 1800's homestead near Jemseg River where our sailboat is moored. Gardens are abundant, kayaking is beautiful, fishing is good, and swimming is great! Welcome home!

Camping near Fredericton guide

From the Historic Garrison District where you can watch the Canadian Army’s changing of the guard reenactment to a hip urban core with a brewery trail, Fredericton is a fantastic city to spend a few days. Take a kayak tour of the Saint John River, or rent a bike to explore nature trails and historic neighbourhoods, then stay at one of several campgrounds and RV resorts in and around Fredericton. The city is perfectly situated to access some of New Brunswick's most beautiful parks for camping.

Where to Go

Kouchibouguac National Park

Sitting on the Acadian Coast of New Brunswick, this stunning park combines lush forest with salt-marshes that are home to thousands of birds, and sandy beaches that spill into the warm ocean. Kouchibouguac offers amazing hiking, kayaking, fishing, clam digging, and all manner of Parks Canada-provided activities (including going out in a traditional Indigenous canoe). Year-round backcountry camping is available, as are seasonal serviced campsites and oTENTiks.

Bear Island

This tiny community is a great spot for hanging out in nature and having a low-key break, with some awesome attractions and a sweet campsite that comes with its own private beach, a swimming pool, and trails. Nearby in Nackawic is the World’s Largest Axe, a cable suspension bridge, and Howland Falls.

Mactaquac Provincial Park

This heavily wooded park was built for year-round camping. Aside from hiking, fishing, kayaking, and enjoying the numerous freshwater beaches, Mactaquac features a marina, an activity center, and ziplines. In winter, Mactaquac Provincial Park offers sleigh rides, groomed ski trails, skating, fat-bike rentals, and two groomed sledding hills.

When to Go

Up until June, the weather in this part of New Brunswick can be pretty changeable (and cold and wet), but summers are warm and can be pleasant right through to the end of October, when fall kicks in along the Saint John River. You can experience everything Fredericton offers year-round, but some attractions and campsites outside of the city operate only on a seasonal basis.

Know Before You Go

  • Cell service in less-populated areas of New Brunswick can be patchy, so don't rely on your phone as your only map if going off into parks.
  • French is widely spoken in Fredericton, as New Brunswick is Canada's only legally bilingual province (and all services must be offered in both English and French). If travelling north of the city toward Quebec, you’ll find the French language much more commonly spoken.
  • Free camping on Crown Lands (as in owned by the government but not a designated park) is permitted for short periods in New Brunswick.
