The large lawn area is great for camping, campfires, playing games and relaxing while watching the horse and buggies of the local Amish and Mennonites go ambling by in a manner that speaks to a time gone by. We have now added a Bunkie that can be booked for a more comfortable camping experience. The Perth Harvest Pathway section of the G2G rail trail is quite literally in the backyard. for hiking , bird watching and biking. We have an outdoor shower and large sink in a shed attached to the rear of our garage. It is easy to identify as it has a large white x on the door. Wake up in a pine loft to eastern light and birdsong. Climb down to start the coffee. Step outside to find our resident horses, Cleopatra, Captain Insano, and Fletch, already watching you from the field.
The Pine Bunkie at Tiny Farm is a two-storey, off-grid, solar-powered pine bunkie on a small, beautiful five-acre hobby farm outside St. Marys, Ontario. It sleeps two comfortably and it's the kind of place made for good books and songs around the campfire.
The main floor has a sitting area, a small kitchen with fridge, sink and coffee maker, and a BBQ outside for cooking. The loft above, reached by ladder, which is part of the charm, holds a queen bed with east-facing windows. Leave the window open and let the sound of birdsong be the first thing you hear in the morning.
Outside, a fire pit with red Muskoka chairs looks out over fields and a hedgerow that hums with birds and butterflies all summer. Your first fire is on us. When you're ready for more, the Kinsmen sell firewood right at Broken Rail Brewery, seven minutes down the road and a perfectly good excuse for a pint.
The bunkie has a composting toilet in a private outhouse. Full instructions are posted inside. Guests tell us they stop thinking about it within the first hour.
The horses love the adoration of new friends. The chickens roam freely and will find you on their own schedule. The dogs are friendly and will definitely visit you. The pace is slow. That's the point.
Seven minutes away (15 minutes walk through the field), Broken Rail Brewery pours excellent beer. We may see you there. The village of St. Marys has a sweet main street, proper coffee shops, and the kind of afternoon stroll that costs nothing. The Quarry, a stunning natural limestone swimming hole, is one of southwestern Ontario's best-kept secrets and entirely yours to discover.
Open May long weekend through September, when the hedgerow is full and the fire pit earns its keep.

This spot served as a great home base for us. We were visiting the Sarnia area and the location of this spot worked out great. Close to everything we wanted but still tucked away and private. The sites were clean and the host was responsive and helpful. If we need a place to camp again in the area, this is where we will come back to.

John provides a beautiful property to camp on, and a nice way to wrap a day of bike packing. The area is quiet and serene, with a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Having an outhouse, and stations with snacks and fresh water was very convenient.
I will definitely camp here again if I'm bike packing in the area.

We had a such a great 2 nights at Riverview. David was waiting for us upon arrival, which was great for me and my 2 kids. I recommend the Glamping bundle- we were later arrivals and earlier departure, so it was nice to not have to set up and dismantle a tent. Perfect site for the kids and dog!! Will definitely be back.

We had such a wonderful stay at riverside. The area was peaceful and well-kept, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature. Shelby was a fantastic host—warm, welcoming, and attentive—and we even got to meet Mr. Fin, their sweet and friendly dog, which was a highlight of the trip. The port-a-potty was fairly clean, which is always appreciated when camping. Overall, this was a simple, quiet, and enjoyable camping experience. We’d happily come back again!

Grand Bend Beach
As residents know, Grand Bend’s Main Beach is the heart of town and an ideal spot to kick back, take in the sun, comb the shoreline, swim in the lake, or try jet-skiing and parasailing (which you can arrange with nearby rental shops). Because of Grand Bend’s small size, there’s something special about a picturesque, sandy beach being the true centre of the community. South Beach is just as beautiful but often less crowded, so it’s perfect for catching a magnificent sunset melting into Lake Huron’s waters. Camping options near Grand Bend Beach include RV sites, waterside glamping, or even remote waterfall campsites.
Pinery Provincial Park
Spanning more than 10 kilometres of Lake Huron’s shores, Pinery Provincial Park is one of Grand Bend’s main attractions. Explore the rare and biodiverse Oak Savanna and Coastal Dune ecosystems, watch one of Canada’s best sunsets, or take advantage of local rentals for canoeing, hydro biking, or kayaking up the Old Ausable Channel (an important wetland for the area). Pitch your tent by the shore or even rent a unique dome tent—a semi-permanent, spacious shelter that usually comes hooked up with heat and other amenities.

The main trails require the use of steep stairs (about 100 steps each) to safely reach the bottom of the gorge, though there are also accessible trails to explore the park. Spend the night tent camping on wooded farmland, checked into a rustic cabin in the heart of an expansive nature reserve, or in your RV overlooking the placid waters of Lake Huron.
When to go
As a beach town first and foremost, Grand Bend is an extremely popular destination in summer for visitors from Toronto and the U.S., and summer is the best time to visit. The cold winters (average high of 2°C in December) aren’t exactly conducive to swimming and sunbathing, but a beach town is beautiful in any weather. While water is best enjoyed in warmer months, the trails and hikes around town are still well worth doing in late spring and early fall.
