Welcome to Emu creek Retreat One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking., Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash. If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them. One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities. Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property. The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road. Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away. Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km. Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise. Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property. The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

In wet conditions you will need a 4WD to access these sites. Figtree Farm has an abundance of bird and animal life. Here, tranquillity reigns, save for the occasional serenade of our friendly neighbourhood donkeys and the odd rooster. If you wish to wander further afield, Wiangaree is 15 minutes away and Kyogle is a 30 minute drive south. For those who enjoy a game of tennis there is an all weather tennis court (with lights) nearby at Bundgeam Hall. Rainforest Gateway is located approximately 8klms along Grady's Creek Road, just 20 klms north of Kyogle and 15 klms from the Queensland border on the popular scenic tourist route, Lions Road. Kyogle is a bustling town with an IGA supermarket, MTB riding tracks, lovely gift shops, cinema, bowling alley, and a selection of dining outlets. For those wanting to immerse themselves in nature, the Border Ranges National Park is a short drive away. Please note Lions Road is temporarily closed for road repairs and expected to be reopened late January 2026. We also offer a series of internal walks & running tracks through the forested parts of the property. In addition, we offer a trained masseur who will massage in his forest studio. We offer arts courses: life drawing, basket making and cyanotyping. We offer night tours to view glow-worms. In August and September fireflies can be seen along our creeklines. We can provide escorted tours of local sights including galleries, natural sights including waterfalls and a local commune.

We are professional musicians and love to meeting people. Elphie used to own the iconic Nimbin Rox backpacker hostel, and although Soulhaven is only in its infancy, it still has a relaxed atmosphere. Our favourite part of living at Soulhaven is the daily orchestra of birds! Although you will feel like you’re completely secluded from busy town-life, we are only 15 minutes from the nearest shops. Enjoy a toasty campfire in the evenings where you can sit back and gaze at the stars. There are trail bikes tracks nearby and the iconic Border Ranges is just past Kyogle. This campsite is 2WD friendly and caravans are welcome. You may need to level your caravan for a good night's rest. Your pet, on a lead, is welcome to camp with you. We love animals, but one of the reasons we left suburbia was to get away from barking dogs. If your dog barks at night, or is not we’ll socialised, you’re best to leave pooch at home! Our place is family friendly and we ask that you keep music and noise to a minimum after 10pm.

Weekend Trip to Undercliff Farm

We had such a wonderful stay in your cottage , it was truly a special experience for our family. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared with all the essentials we needed, including milk, butter, coffee, sugar and other little touches that made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We especially loved meeting all the friendly animals around the farm, and the farm cats were absolutely adorable. They brought so much joy to our stay. One of our favourite memories was sitting around the campfire at night under the beautiful sky full of stars. It felt peaceful, relaxing, and like a true country escape. It was such a lovely opportunity to slow down and enjoy nature. Thank you so much for creating such a warm and welcoming place. You can really feel the care and effort you’ve put into the property. We’re very grateful for this experience and made some beautiful family memories here. We would absolutely love to come back again in the future.

Weekend Trip to Larapinta

Wonderful place. Quiet, great views out of the bath. Had a super hot bath star gazing, and watched the kangaroos by day. The place had all the essentials, great big fridge and soft bed. Thanks for having us!

Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

We love CRWL and have camped and paddled a few times before. This time we booked the two cabins together for a family Mother’s Day gathering and really loved the rustic cabins in the private space with wonderful river views where we have seen quolls and rock wallabies before. Sharon and Stephen went above and beyond to ensure our comfort with masses of firewood for the huge shared outdoor fireplace with seating, and for the two small indoor fireplaces, as well as providing a tree to plant for our Mum and access to starlink. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

We had a most peaceful and connecting stay in the cabins at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge. We were nine, with three doing their own camping, so we booked the two cabins for the other 6 of us, which worked perfectly. The hours spent around the well set-out campfire! Cooking, chatting, some arts and crafts, walks up and down the river, swims (yes! in May - chilly and very refreshing but not too cold), canoeing up and down the creek. We saw t least ten different bird species, and two goannas leisurely strolled past our camp. Sharon came by for a friendly drop by one evening and we heard a good bit of the history of the area from her. Altogether and relaxing and refreshing trip.

Weekend Trip to Figtree Farm at Findon Creek

4 adults and 3 furbabies.......wow what a fabulous time we had!!!! Everything in the house was just perfect and being able to be altogether sitting on the deck was the best. Late afternoon fires outside seeing the cloud roll in over the mountains and then the stars, bliss. We can't rate this place high enough. Thank you to Jane and her family for allowing us to stay in such a special place.

The perfect spot to camp with non-campers! The site had the most stunning views of the valley with nearby creek access. Level ground to pitch tents plus three double bedrooms in the house. Campfire pit and JB and family made sure we had plenty of firewood. Kids (and grown ups) had a ball exploring the grounds and creeks and watching the stars at night.

The Bunkhouse: It’s spacious and cleanThe kids absolutely loved the indoor hammock—it was the favorite "chill spot" after a long day of exploring. The Horse Experience: This was the highlight of our trip. The horses are beautiful and well-cared for. Our kids had the best time getting up close to them at the fence and going on a guided ride. The Shanti and Gav were fantastic—super patient and nice, making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable in the saddle. strongly recommending the horse riding and troopy safari

Weekend Trip to Larapinta

Beautiful place, absoulte gem and must be protected at all cost. The rules are basic leave the place the same or better as you found it, and be respectful. Highly recommend, the cows were friendly and their communal area is well kept with a posh portaloo and hot showers, there is also a small communal kitchen with basic appliances. We stayed in the Woody cabin which is easy 2wd access, the rest of the site is deffinalty 4wd with some steep and rough climbs.

We had such a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The location is beautiful, with the creek running nearby, it was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature. My kids had a great time exploring the surroundings and playing by the creek. Stayed a few nights in a cabin, the bird and running water sounds of the river made it so peaceful. Sat by a fire and enjoyed the stars, swam in the rapids, just a Great place to get away from it all! BACK TO NATURE!! We loved our stay. We booked The Woody and it was perfect for the weekend. We're looking forward to returning with the tent to explore the rest of the property. The outdoor bath tub was luxury and easy to fill with hot water. Great setup. Lots of charm and super comfortable. Hosts were very accommodating. Highly recommended.
