One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking.,
Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash.
If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them.
One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities.
Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property.
The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road.
Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away.
Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km.
Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise.
Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property.
The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

We are professional musicians and love to meeting people. Elphie used to own the iconic Nimbin Rox backpacker hostel, and although Soulhaven is only in its infancy, it still has a relaxed atmosphere.
Our favourite part of living at Soulhaven is the daily orchestra of birds! Although you will feel like you’re completely secluded from busy town-life, we are only 15 minutes from the nearest shops.
Enjoy a toasty campfire in the evenings where you can sit back and gaze at the stars. There are trail bikes tracks nearby and the iconic Border Ranges is just past Kyogle.
This campsite is 2WD friendly and caravans are welcome. You may need to level your caravan for a good night's rest.
Your pet, on a lead, is welcome to camp with you. We love animals, but one of the reasons we left suburbia was to get away from barking dogs. If your dog barks at night, or is not we’ll socialised, you’re best to leave pooch at home!
Our place is family friendly and we ask that you keep music and noise to a minimum after 10pm.

We are a dog-friendly park so the whole family is welcome. Dogs need to be controlled at all times and cleaned up after. No aggressive dogs please.
Campfires are permitted in designated fire pits only and may be subject to fire bans. Firewood and ice are available for purchase (cash preferred).
Recycling bins are provided, otherwise campers are required to take their rubbish with them. Wi-Fi and Telstra coverage are available.
Rainforest Gateway is located approximately 8klms along Grady's Creek Road, just 20 klms north of Kyogle and 15 klms from the Queensland border on the popular scenic tourist route, Lions Road. Kyogle is a bustling town with an IGA supermarket, MTB riding tracks, lovely gift shops, cinema, bowling alley, and a selection of dining outlets. For those wanting to immerse themselves in nature, the Border Ranges National Park is a short drive away.
Please note Lions Road is temporarily closed for road repairs and expected to be reopened late January 2026. We can still be reached on Gradys Creek Road off Summerland Way, ignore Google maps if it directs you to Lynches Creek Rd.

If you wish to wander further afield, Kyogle is a 30 minute drive away. And there is an all weather tennis court (with lights) nearby at Bundgeam Hall.

Gorgeous part of the world. Well kept camping grounds with hotshowers and toilets near the camp kitchen. Camp kitchen was immaculate with microwave, kettle, washing facilities, cooktop and castiron over the fire, along with a lounge space and plenty of board games for the kids. Small hill from the powered camping which was also a minute stroll down to the creek.

The studio room was very comfortable and Greg was an amazing host. The property n creek is gorgeous and being able to have the option of being in your birthday suit is liberating. Highly recommended. Meeting new people with no judgment was great. Definitely will be going back.

What a hidden gem of a place. We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin, from the moment we arrived we enjoyed every second. It’s such a private, peaceful spot and the scenery and river were simply magnificent. Both kids and adults had a blast spending the whole day in the river. For off-grid campers we were spoiled and appreciated the hot shower, flushing toilet and water for washing up. Jess was lovely and took the time to come and meet us, bringing some lucerne for the cows. We were also lucky enough to have a resident peacock visit who clearly loved his watermelon treat. So sad to leave and we can’t wait to return.

3 nights at Rocky River Play Station
Really great cabin in an even better location! My partner and I loved our stay in the cabin. There was plenty of space inside with everything you need and we felt very secluded with lots of privacy. There was cows roaming around which you could feed and a beautiful peacock walking about. The property has plenty lots to offer and explore with a walking trail we found and an unbelievable creek which was great for a swim and to explore. Jess was super helpful and friendly too and even checked in on us when a storm rolled through. Would highly recommend!

Great spot, really secluded but town isn’t too far away in a pinch, can bring a big group and it’s really inexpensive, welcome book was helpful for trails and the history of the place, thoroughly recommend

Our extended family had a great stay at Brushtales cabin with lovely spots next to the cabin to pitch tents.
Having all the facilities of the cabin made camping so easy and comfortable. Its a beautiful spot by the river. The kids loved everything about it and feeding Colin 110, was a highlight. We'd definitely come again. Thanks Jess

Weekend Trip to Barachi by the Creek
We stayed at Barrachi Camp with a mate and honestly had the best time. It was the perfect little escape from Byron — so peaceful, private, and beautifully tucked away on the farm. Peter and Tania have created something really special there, a cosy cabin that feels completely nestled in nature while still being super comfortable. We loved the quiet, the privacy, and just slowing down for a couple of days. We’ll definitely be back, and next time we’ll bring more friends to share this gem. Highly recommend if you’re after a proper reset.

Several families of ours spent a truly unforgettable Christmas here. There was plenty of space for children to play, and we could also set up tents outdoors. We enjoyed barbecuing together and singing, and it was all very relaxing.
The environment is beautiful and quiet. In the mornings, we could see mist rolling through the mountains, which made the whole experience especially peaceful and refreshing.
The host was very kind and patiently explained how everything worked. We highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing getaway.

This little tin shack is like going back in time to stay in a timber-getter's lodge. It is full of rustic charm and nestled at the foot of hills, beside and (importantly) in the shade of a stand of large beautiful camphor laurels, with a small creek running below. It really is camping without the tent, but has everything you need in the way of a solar shower, long-drop loo, tanks of water, solar lights and a small fan, gas cooker and large bbq, outdoor firepit, and even a fire-heated outdoor bath to enjoy under the stars, or in our case, a full moon. The deck is large and comfortable with chairs and a hammock which we spent a lot of time in, and the solar nights that come on at night make for a lovely vibe. The wind in the trees and the sound of the wind chime was so lovely to hear and fall asleep to at night, and the cool night's in the comfortable beds made for great sleeps.
Being a tin shack, it does get quite hot especially late morning/midday, but we found shade under the camphor's and loved watching the cows come up close. The creek was really low when we were there as there hasn't been much rain, but it would be so beautiful when flowing in rainy months.
Whian Whian Falls is less than 10 minutes away for a lovely swim to cool of, and we dined at the Channon Pub too which is recommended.
The kids (3 and 1) loved the space to explore, cows to watch, creek and bath to splash in, and fireside hangs.
Peter was such an amazing, responsive, friendly, and kind host.

My husband and I along with our 2 dogs had the most peaceful, relaxing stay on Peter and Tania's property.
Relaxing on the deck and watching the cows graize in the lush, rolling hills was so serene.
Cooling off in the nearby creek, watching our dogs play was so special.
Thank you to Peter for meeting us and showing us the way.
Definitely need a 4wd.
We would love to come back again.

The bunk house was super comfortable, and the outdoor amenities were so serene.

Weekend Trip to Barachi by the Creek
Barachi by the creek is an absolutely magical place. Peaceful, secluded and surrounded by natural beauty while giving you everything you need for a trip away without all the mod cons. Pete and Tania are speedy and effective in communication and are awesome hosts. Cannot recommend this enough. You will not regret your decision to book. Bit of a walk down and back up but that was part of the charm. Earn your holiday!

We had the most incredible night at Peter and Tania's cabin! The cabin was so decked out with everything we needed and the beds were comfier than the ones at home! The dog and the kids loved the creek, we hiked and explored the paddocks :) A big storm rolled in and we all watched the lighting from the porch and all slept so cozy with rain on the tin roof! Solar shower was perfect to give everyone a wash! Beautiful property and very private, we will most certainly come back again! Peter was so easy to communicate with and made sure we were all set. Weekend Trip to Clarence River Wilderness Lodge
Our stay at Clarence River Wilderness Retreat was absolutely beautiful. The property is so remote and serene that you truly feel like the only people in the world. The river and surrounding nature are breathtaking — the perfect place to slow down and reconnect.
Living simply for the weekend was so peaceful and grounding. We had everything we needed; the off-grid amenities were fantastic and thoughtfully set up. We spent our days playing cards, strumming guitar by the fire, watching an incredible storm roll in at night, and soaking up the sunshine the next day while canoeing and relaxing by the river.
A special mention to Sharon, one of the owners, who was so friendly, welcoming, and proud of her beautiful property. Hearing her stories about her family and the land made the experience even more special. We felt completely safe, comfortable, and cared for during our stay.
