Clarence River Wilderness Lodge

We stayed 2 nights at the Rapids camp site which was super private and peaceful. The community camp kitchen was just up the road along with hot shower and drop toilets ,all at no extra 💲👍. We then spent the rest of our 4 days in the tree hut, the hut had its own ensuite which you need to see - it was excellent from a remote camping 🏕️ site perspective. This property is remote with no outside world intervention as in mobile or internet, just what we were looking for, thanks to our hosts , we will be back with the rest of the family.

Beauty everywhere

What an amazing place. I absolutely loved my stay. My favourite highlights were the beauty of the nature - the bird life was abundant, the paddle up the river and floating back down, and the diversity of the landscape. The land itself is very well kept whilst still supporting the wildness of nature. I was fortunate to have the whole place to myself, so it was even more magical. I will be back.

We had a fantastic weekend here. The campsite is quiet, spacious, and surrounded by stunning scenery. The river, mountains, and peaceful atmosphere make it the perfect place to unwind. The owners were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It's quite far from Brisbane, but the drive is 100% worth it. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and camping.

We had a fantastic time camping at the cascades site. Private, quiet and entirely relaxing. We towed in our opus op4 with no problems despite the at times steep and winding driveway for the last 6ish km! My boys loved the canoes and the ability to pick up their own firewood! We would definitely come back, hopefully in spring/summer when we can have a swim!

Ironbark Campsite

This is our second time camping at CRWL. Our favourite spot is the main camp flat. It’s open for plenty of sunshine and great for solar charging. The fire pits are spread apart enough to be a large distance to the next camper. The river is sensational to swim in the summer. And in the winter you can still enjoy the river with the canoes. The toilets and showers are well maintained. Property owners Steven and Sharon are wonderful. They are always up for a chat and have a lot of historical knowledge of the region including local Aboriginal heritage.

River Flat Campground

The Clarence River Wilderness Lodge is by far the best bush camping spot near Brisbane. The drive in is glorious. The campsite itself is absolutely spectacular. Camping by the Clarence is so tranquil. So much space for each group because the number of campers is restricted. Never crowded in like sardines. Heaps and heaps of space. Fires are a bonus especially in winter time. The free canoes and kayaks for everyone to use on the one kilometre stretch of permanent waterhole on the river is an added bonus. Very rare to be able to just sit in your camp chair and spend hours marvelling at your surrounds, feels like you're sitting in a natural amphitheatre. The bird life is incredible. The rock wallabies are always entertaining. The platypus are adorable. Hiking along the ridge tops is amazing. The hosts Steve and Sharon are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Enough said, absolutely superb destination.

Camped here for a birthday weekend with friends and had an amazing time. The hosts are very friendly and happy to answer any questions or to have a chat with. They were more than happy to accommodate for my group being naturally noisier than some other groups and we had the Rapids and Ironbark campsites to ourselves! The facilities were amazing and there is so much to do including taking in all the amazing landscapes - we took a lot of photos haha. We are hoping to be back soon as we didn’t get to do nearly everything we wanted to. You could easily stay a week and not be bored!

Incredible views of the river, access to kayaks and canoes and wildlife in abundance. We saw Greater Gliders, Bilbies, Wild Boar (babies! Super cute), Pademelons, Kangaroos, Platypus and Turtles. The bell tents were beautiful with comfy beds. Spectacular stay.

Amazing place

What an amazing hidden gem! The drive in was quite long and rocky, and we even thought we might be on the wrong road. But when we arrived, the beautiful mountain views, river, trees, and birdsong made it all worthwhile. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, especially with the wood fireplace keeping us warm at night. We loved being surrounded by nature and enjoying the peaceful forest setting. The free kayaks were a great bonus, allowing us to explore the water and take in the stunning scenery. In the evening, we sat around the campfire and enjoyed the incredible starry sky. It was a relaxing and memorable stay, and we would definitely come back again. Highly recommended for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy nature. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cabin- Self Contained (6 berth)

What a beautiful place to stay! The cabin was absolutely stunning, and although it was quite cold during our visit, there was a fireplace inside the cabin and another fire pit outside that kept us warm and cosy the whole time. The scenery was breathtaking, and at night the stars were spectacular. We could even see the Milky Way stretching across the sky, which was an unforgettable experience. The canoes were a fantastic addition and provided hours of fun for both me and the kids. Being able to get out on the water and take in the peaceful surroundings made the stay even more special. A big thank you to Sharon and Steve for such a wonderful stay and for sharing this little piece of paradise with us. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and will definitely be back. P.S. If you happen to look in one of the corners of the roof, you'll find a little red speaker we accidentally left behind 🤭. It's up for grabs if you or another guest would like it! I loved the place so much I forgot all about it.

Cabin- Self Contained (6 berth)

We had a most peaceful and connecting stay in the cabins at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge. We were nine, with three doing their own camping, so we booked the two cabins for the other 6 of us, which worked perfectly. The hours spent around the well set-out campfire! Cooking, chatting, some arts and crafts, walks up and down the river, swims (yes! in May - chilly and very refreshing but not too cold), canoeing up and down the creek. We saw t least ten different bird species, and two goannas leisurely strolled past our camp. Sharon came by for a friendly drop by one evening and we heard a good bit of the history of the area from her. Altogether and relaxing and refreshing trip.

Cabin - Self Contained (4 Berth)

We love CRWL and have camped and paddled a few times before. This time we booked the two cabins together for a family Mother’s Day gathering and really loved the rustic cabins in the private space with wonderful river views where we have seen quolls and rock wallabies before. Sharon and Stephen went above and beyond to ensure our comfort with masses of firewood for the huge shared outdoor fireplace with seating, and for the two small indoor fireplaces, as well as providing a tree to plant for our Mum and access to starlink. We will be back!

We had the most amazing stay at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge - Steve & Sharon were wonderful, welcoming and kind hosts who checked in on us regularly and made sure we had everything we need. Getting to the property is a fun adventure and once we got there, we didn't want to leave! Cascades was a large, private campsite just by the water - we loved hearing the rapids run overnight. There's no service (which we loved) and there's lots of room for activities - we especially enjoyed canoeing in the Clarence River & doing the bushwalking trails. The facilities were convenient and well maintained, and the hot showers were a big bonus! We couldn't recommend Sharon & Steve's place highly enough, thank you so much and we will be back!
