BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
PHONES: Phone reception is good, there is a Telstra exchange on the property.
ROADS: Roads around the sites are unsealed, but most normal cars and the average SUV handle it okay. The road down into the Megalong Valley is tar sealed, very scenic but winding.
ICE: Bring your own ice
WOOD: Timber can be purchased at reception. We are an environmental biodiversity precinct so don’t permit damage to vegetation.
FIRES: Plenty of existing fire spots
SHOPS: The township of Blackheath is 15klm away up on the Gt Western Hwy, none in the Valley

We are requiring ALL vehicles to get registered PRIOR to going up to the site, resulting from so many vehicles trespassing at the venue and causing nuisances for other campers
Please indicate the details of cars such as make, model , colour and rego number prior to arrival.
We must also remind campers that this is not a venue for noisy partying as we are a quiet wilderness environmental zone. We do not tolerate it and will remove offenders. Other campers treasure the peace and quiet.

Blue Mountains Grass Tree Bush Camp

Firstly, a big thankyou for all of the positive reviews. They have just contributed to Grass Tree Campground being awarded 3rd place in NSW for Hipcamp venues. It is great to get the feedback that campers appreciate this for what it is, a simple little Primitive Campground with generous spacing for each group to enjoy their own camping experience.
The Grass Tree Bush Camp is conveniently located just 2.5km north of Katoomba town center, so you can easily take advantage of all the upper mountain attractions in this amazing ‘World Heritage’ listed area. If we are booked out, we do have a couple of overflow sites that might suit your rig, so please reach out and we will see if we can help out.
If you are planning on having a fire, please do not remove firewood from the surrounding bushland. As you can imagine, if campers did that, the atmosphere of the campground would quickly deteriorate. Please plan to bring some from home, purchase some from the local service stations ($18 for 15kg), or alternatively, we can drop a 25+kg crate of mixed hardwood at your site for $20. If the later suits, just let me know. However, it is ok to collect small amount of kindling to start your fire.
Fires are restricted to existing fire pits to minimize scars on the ground. If you prefer to bring your own fire pit we ask that you leave no trace. Fires are only permitted when there are no RFS bans in place, we will communicate directly with you, in advance, if there are any upcoming 'Extreme' or 'Catastrophic' fire day warnings from the RFS. Please be extra vigilant around this as our community is only just recovering after the devastating recent fires. Fires are to be modest and discrete. Out of respect for our neighbors and other campers, please do not use a chainsaw at the campground. Please do not leave rubbish in your fire pit. Things like cigarette butts, cans, beer caps and food scraps need to be taken with you. We pride ourselves with keeping the sites as pristine as possible and ask that you follow our 'leave no trace' policy.
Note: there is no water on the property so you will need to allow enough to ensure you have completely extinguished your fire before you depart.

We have seven unique sites that can accommodate various groups needs. Only use allocated area as indicated by campsite site colour on site map. The logs at each site define site area, please do not drive through the grass clearing. Site numbers are on trees. Unless previously discussed, you are required to camp on the site you book and will be asked to move if you set up on another site. All traffic is to drive clockwise around ring road. The site numbers correspond with this direction of travel.
The campground is tranquil and has a large open, flat grassy clearing in the middle for family games. The secluded clearing is boarded by a Woodland forest with stunning flora like Waratahs, Xanthorrhoea's (Grass Trees), Orchids and Banksias. The property is home to many beautiful species of fauna like Gang-gang Cockatoo's, Eastern Rosella's and the cheeky iconic Magpie which will warble a warm welcome. The grassy clearing is occasionally frequented by Kangaroos at dawn and dusk.
Just a stones throw from the property you have easy access to world class lookouts and bush walks. If you are into climbing, canyoning, trekking, trail running, cafes, restaurants or walking along breath taking National Park trails, then you will love visiting our area. If you are unfamiliar with the area, we recommend visiting the Information Centre at Echo Point to get all the information you need for your intended activities.
This camp is perfect for groups/families wanting to have a campfire, a bit of space from other campers and to have room for the kids to run around and kick a ball.
There is a composting toilet on-site with toilet paper and Hand Sanitizer supplied. When you visit the toilet, after you have finished, please place 1 cup of Sawdust into the toilet after a wee, and 2 cups after a Number Two. This bulkage is a significant element to the success of the composting process. If you use the last of the paper on a toilet roll, the cardboard roll can be thrown into the toilet as well to be composted. If you think anything is not how it should be with the composting Toilet, please reach out and we will come and take a look.
Well behaved pets are welcome and we encourage you to keep your dog on a lead if they are likely to adventure too far from your site and disturb the local wildlife or other campers.
If you are interested in a longer free stay and are open to a trade for a small amount of labor each day, please reach out. There is always lots of things we need to get done, but don't always have the time.

Kenzell Farm

Kenzell Farm is a 250 acre working cattle farm, just 10-minutes from Jenolan Caves and 20 minutes from Oberon. We have a breeding program in miniature Highland cattle and miniature goats.
Our family run farm is also home to Speckle Park cattle (some of the prettiest cows you will ever see), horses, ponies, miniature donkeys, pigs, camels, alpacas, llamas, fallow deer, miniature goats, guinea pigs and bunnies - and that’s just the start! In fact, we have more than 24 different types of animals on our farm.
We offer many different opportunities to meet our resident farm animals - from Farm tours, High Tea with the Goats, Donkey tours and Camp Oven cook ups. We also offer General Admission at other times. Available from 10am - 4pm, Weekends and School holidays. Other times by appointment.
Our farm experiences are fabulous for individuals, couples, families and even large groups (we’ve also hosted hens weekends). Mckeown’s Rest, situated at Kenzell Farm is a bnb available for overnight stays. Camping is also available via Hipcamp.We have drinking water available for campers, however, no toilets or showers so you'll need to bring your own camp loo and take all waste with you.
Pets welcome but to be kept on a lead, please and poop picked up.
You are welcome to have fires in the provided drum/firepit. Wood is provided and can also be collected from the property for use during your stay.

'The Refinery' at Hartley Vale

Built on the site of the old Hartley Vale oil shale works that closed in 1916, 'The Refinery" was re-established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. Our guests like to sit around their campfires watching the spectacular show while kids and dogs run around without the burden of leashes or noise of city traffic.

Good Paddock is located just 5 minutes out of town with a beautiful little fresh water creek. The property has access to mountain to a mountain hike, 4WD trails and glow worm tunnel access. The paddock is flat and grassy, any type of tent or van can be set up around a campfire.
This paddock used to be inhabited by Miners and locals, so you will find bomb shelters, rail tracks and other little historical objects in the ground. There are distant neighbours past the trees.
At the top of the mountain there is a breathtaking view of the whole town. This site is close to many gems of the area and there are many 4WD trails.

Camp Medlow is located in Medlow Bath in the upper Blue Mountains, and is just 800m from Medlow Bath railway station, and only 8 minutes drive to Katoomba or 5 minutes drive to Blackheath - so is conveniently located close to all the key attractions, like Scenic World, the Grand Canyon, the Three Sisters, plus all the amazing tracks, trails, bushwalks, and abseiling and climbing locations that the upper Mountains is famous for.
You can pitch up to two tents on the level and very secluded campsite where you'll have complete privacy in a fantastic bushland setting, which backs directly onto Blue Mountains National Park. The campsite is directly in the centre of 3 acres of natural open forest comprising many old and tall Blue Mountains Ash eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus oreades), Banksias, Waratahs, and Wattle. The property is also home to Gang-gang and black Cockatoos, parrots, owls, magpies, spotted-tailed Quolls, possums, Eastern bent-wing bats, and wallabies.
Camp Medlow is for TENTS ONLY.
Camper vans, caravans, and car rooftop tents are NOT permitted. This is because you can't get your car/van to the actual campsite where you pitch your tents. It's just a 50m flat walk along the rustic trail to the campsite from the car park - so you'll need to carry your gear to where you'll set up your tents.
There is designated parking for two cars (not camper vans, caravans, or rooftop tents) on the Beaufort Street (dirt road) side of the property.
The level campsite is placed next to a rocky outcrop that features a traditional camp fire circle and is shaded by a big old Ash tree. We ask that if you choose to have a campfire, then please only use the existing camp fire circle so as to protect the property, the flora, fauna, and minimise the impact to the environment in general.
Important fire safety - Remember, fires are not permitted during total fire bans days, so check the current restrictions before you light up. We also would request that you bring your own firewood, and do not use firewood from the property, as fallen branches and logs can be homes for native animals and critters - and we don't want to impact them. We also ask that before you go to sleep at night, and when you leave the property, that you have fully extinguished the fire with water - do not leave the fire smouldering. Our community in the upper Blue Mountains is regularly impacted by bushfire, and our neighbours and friends have lost their homes - and everything - during these fires, so please be vigilant and responsible with any open fire.
There is no water available at the property, so please bring your own - both for drinking, cooking, and to extinguish the campfire.
There are no toilets on the property so you must bring your own camp toilet that you take with you when you leave. Do not dispose your human waste on the property.
The Grand Canyon Walking Track, which is in Blackheath, is 10 mins up the road from the campsite and Blue Mountains National Park is right at your tent's doorstep.

Overview
About
In the bush-clad foothills of the Blue Mountains are more than a dozen natural caves to explore at Jenolan Caves. Venture underground to trek through limestone caverns, follow subterranean rivers, and marvel at hanging stalactites, crystalline rocks, and fossils. Alternatively, spot kangaroos on a bush walk through the Jenolan Reserve, choose an active tour and scramble through cave tunnels by torchlight, or dare to discover the caves after dark. There’s no camping at Jenolan Caves, but campers have options within a 20-minute drive.
When to go
Jenolan Caves are open daily year-round, but advance bookings are always advisable, especially on weekends and during NSW school holidays. Peak season is summer (December through February), so book tours at least six weeks in advance. The caves provide a cool retreat from the heat, with underground temperatures maintaining 15°C no matter when you visit.
Know before you go
- Jenolan Caves are 115 km west of Sydney, or about a 3-hour drive. From Katoomba, it’s about a 2-hour drive. Access to the caves is via Jenolan Cave Road or Edith Road (not accessible for caravans or large motorhomes).
- There is no public transport to the caves, but free parking is available and shuttle buses run between the car park and the caves. The closest fuel station is 30 km away in Oberon, so be sure to fill up before you set out.
- You’ll need sturdy closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing to explore the caves. Bring something warm as it’s cool inside the caves.
- Facilities at Jenolan Caves include restrooms, a café, and a gift shop. The complex also has hotels and restaurants.
- Most caves can only be visited as part of a guided tour, and minimum age restrictions apply. The only wheelchair-accessible cave is Orient Cave, and visits must be arranged in advance.
