65km from Lake Burrendong State Park · 1 site · Tent, RVUnwind by getting back to nature
Perfect for small groups seeking privacy and immersion in nature, this secluded camping site sits on the banks of the Wambuul–Macquarie River in the remote Killongbutta Valley, midway between Bathurst and Orange.
Here, time slows. Days unfold to the steady rhythm of flowing water, birdsong and the soft whisper of sheoaks moving in the wind. It’s a place to unplug, exhale and reconnect — with nature, with one another, and with your own creativity.
Many stories and dreamings have emerged from this landscape. Artists, writers, poets and musicians often find it a place of deep inspiration and reflection.
A walk along Killongbutta Road reveals sweeping rural vistas across Wiradjuri Country —a river valley layered with history, including ancient stone quarry sites, corroboree grounds and the resting place of a warrior.
The river itself is alive with platypus, water dragons and rakali (native water rats). Wombats have made their homes in the riverbanks, and you may find yourself sharing the space with these quiet, nocturnal neighbours.
