The logs at each site define site area, please do not drive through the grass clearing. Site numbers are on trees. Unless previously discussed, you are required to camp on the site you book and will be asked to move if you set up on another site. All traffic is to drive clockwise around ring road. The site numbers correspond with this direction of travel. The campground is tranquil and has a large open, flat grassy clearing in the middle for family games. The secluded clearing is boarded by a Woodland forest with stunning flora like Waratahs, Xanthorrhoea's, Orchids and Banksias. The property is home to many beautiful species of fauna like Gang-gang Cockatoo's, Eastern Rosella's and the cheeky iconic Magpie which will warble a warm welcome. If you are unfamiliar with the area, we recommend visiting the Information Centre at Echo Point to get all the information you need for your intended activities. This camp is perfect for groups/families wanting to have a campfire, a bit of space from other campers and to have room for the kids to run around and kick a ball. Fires are restricted to existing fire pits to minimize scars on the ground. If you prefer to bring your own fire pit we ask that you leave no trace. Fires are only permitted when there are no RFS bans in place. Please be extra vigilant around this as our community is only just recovering after the devastating recent fires. Fires are to be modest and discrete. Out of respect for our neighbors and other campers, please do not use a chainsaw at the campground. Please do not leave rubbish in your fire pit. Things like cigarette butts, cans, beer caps and food scraps need to be taken with you. We pride ourselves with keeping the sites as pristine as possible and ask that you follow our 'leave no trace' policy. Note: there is no water on the property so you will need to allow enough to ensure you have completely extinguished your fire before you depart. Please bring your own firewood, or you can purchase firewood from most service stations in the Blue Mountains. Please do not collect from the campground, if campers did this, the surrounding bushland would quickly be depleted and loose its natural feel. However, it is ok to collect small kindling to start your fire. There is a composting toilet on-site with toilet paper and Hand Sanitizer supplied. Well behaved pets are welcome and we encourage you to keep your dog on a lead if they are likely to adventure too far from your site and disturb the local wildlife or other campers. If you are interested in a longer free stay and are open to a trade for a small amount of labor each day, please reach out. There is always lots of things we need to get done, but don't always have the time. Acknowledgement of Country: Our property is located within the Country of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. My family recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra (Country) takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape - landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. My family and I pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region. Our hope is that by being custodians of this beautiful property, we will help preserve it for future generations as a place to connect with nature and each other. We hope you love and respect this property as much as our family does. It is a privilege to share it with like minded people who enjoy stepping out of our busy lives to connect with nature, family and friends.

Monastery of 11 Strings

12 sites · RVs, Tents400 acres · Wombeyan Caves, NSW
Lovingly developed for 15 years as a mindful refuge & wildlife corridor by Victoria, a filmmaker/permaculture designer, the property was completely destroyed in 2018. Thus the mega bushfire cycle began impacting forever most of NSW's flora, fauna & people. Nature ultimately prevails & slowly the untamed terrain is healing. After studying at RMIT School of Architecture & Design for three years with the intention to design tiny living house systems better suited for harsh environments, Victoria has returned. Slowly she rebuilds a humble off-grid existence from the burnt-out bus fusing knowledge of building design with her food forests/aquaponics passion, keen to create an environmentally connected experience to share with like-minded others. By staying you are helping her & all the wild things emerge from the ashes. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No flies on us this winter... Book a stay until the end of July 2023 & get 25% off! 1000 acres of diverse country, from rugged hills, cleared areas, dams, and seasonal creeks. Many places to camp - choose something hidden and remove or base camp near the big dam and BBQ. There's a man cave with a bit of shelter for bad weather and a basic bush toilet. Dog friendly, must be well controlled. Campfires permitted in a designated area when restrictions aren't in place. The best camping near Abercrombie River National Park guide

Overview

About

A sweeping stretch of protected gum and bark forests in the NSW Central Tablelands, Abercrombie River National Park offers plenty of ways to play, from bushwalking through mountainous woodland to lazy days spent swimming in one of the park’s three rivers. It's also a fantastic place to spot wildlife like kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and more than 60 bird species. If you have a 4WD vehicle, test its off-roading capabilities on rugged mountain tracks that lead to a handful of secluded campgrounds.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for caravans: Bummaroo Ford Campground is the only place inside Abercrombie River National Park that allows trailers and caravans. It’s also great for families and has river swimming access.
  • Best for a secluded swim: The Beach Campground is only accessible by 4WD, but this off-the-track campground has amazing shady spots along the Abercrombie River.
  • Best for groups: Spread out and socialize among the grassy riverside flats at the Silent Creek Campground

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Like all campgrounds in NSW, advance reservations are required and can be booked online.
  2. Summer holidays and Easter weekend are generally the busiest times, and spots book up quickly. For fewer crowds, aim for spring or fall, or try visiting on a weekday.

When to go

Spring is the ideal time to visit, when wildflowers lining the park’s waterways and hillsides burst into bloom. Wintertime is best avoided, as roads become icy and nighttime temperatures can be freezing at higher elevations. No matter what time of year you go, try sitting quietly near a waterhole at dusk for a chance to spot one of NSW’s most elusive animals—the wild platypus.

Know before you go

  • Most roads within the park require a 4WD vehicle. More capable cars can explore the steep, rugged tracks accessed through the eastern entrance on Felled Timber Road, while those with lower clearance should stick to the west side from the Arkstone Road entrance.
  • Roads leading from the eastern entrance entrance should not be attempted during wet or icy weather.
  • Trailers are only allowed via the western entrance.
  • Flush toilets are available at all campgrounds, and barbecue pits are at all but Bummaroo Ford.
