The site was beautifully maintained, and the waterless toilet was impressively clean — even cleaner than most department store bathrooms, and completely odourless! Our pups had a blast running freely around the site. Although dogs aren’t allowed in the national park next door, we still enjoyed being surrounded by nature and exploring the area with them. If you stay here, don’t miss out on ordering the bread and eggs — the homemade bread was absolutely delicious, and the eggs were incredibly fresh! It does get cold at night, but with the electricity hookups, we were nice and cozy with our electric blanket in the tent. We’ll definitely be back!

Loved our stay at this hip camp site - the Platypus site was small and private with the best views of the water and the jetty. Jana was a great host, checked in on us to make sure we're settled in and if we needed anything. We felt very welcome. We didn't brave the kayaks as the weather is a bit cold, but looked like a lovely option for warmer weather. Campsite is a bit slopy but we found good options to pitch our 4 person tent. We loved our stay, we hope to be back in the summer to make full use of the lovely creek and the kayaks.

If you're looking for a great camping spot not too far from Melbourne, this place is ideal! It feels like you're miles away from everything, offering total peace and privacy. Maggie was super responsive and made our arrival easy, even with the heavy rain over the weekend. The campsite itself is beautiful, with well-maintained fire pits ready to go. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s an equipped camper and looking to unwind in nature. Thanks again, Maggie!

Guests are welcome to visit the Tea Room, open 10am – 5pm Wednesday through Sunday. We are close to the Toolangi State Forest which is a beautiful natural area with plenty of different walking tracks and waterfall viewing options. There are also some popular 4WD tracks in the area too or you might like to take a drive up the Black Spur and enjoy the winding roads and lovely scenery. We are family and dog friendly, with the space for multiple families to camp together on sites 1, 2 and 4. THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR NOISY AND/OR DRUNKEN PARTYING!!!! Come to Kyneton in the Macedon Ranges and stay close to iconic Hanging Rock. Take under an hour to drive up and explore bountiful Bendigo, nip across to experience delightful Daylesford and meander around the wonderful wineries of the Macedon Ranges. Take a week tasting the commuter belt community before you decide to move here permanently or perhaps take a few days to visit homes for sale. Pitch your completely self-sufficient sleeping quarters on our peaceful, flat, 7 acre property which backs onto the Bald Hill Nature Reserve and is less than five minutes drive from Kyneton’s historic Piper Street which is full of delightful restaurants and cafes. There is a local taxi service if guests would like to go out for lunch or dinner with wine and/or cocktails at some of the delicious Kyneton cafes, restaurants and bars: we love Little Swallow Cafe, Home Grown, Miss M's Lounge, Dhaba, The Kyneton Hotel, Fook Shing, Animas Distillery and Botanik Balcony at Royal George. Kangaroos often bounce through the property at dusk and dawn plus there is a beautiful dawn chorus of native birds. The Bald Hill Nature Reserve has many walking tracks and native flowers and there are plenty other outdoor activities in the local area. Campfires are allowed subject to local fire restrictions and must be fully extinguished before you turn in for the night. Please search for the CFA website 'Fire Danger Period: Can I or Can't I?' which has all of the appropriate information. A fire pit with nearby water hoses and logs to sit on is available closer to the house. This is not really suitable for cooking on but is great for toasting marshmallows! Each site has a fire pit which you can use providing it is not a total fire ban. Firewood is available at a cost to you of $50 per wheelbarrow load which will easily cover two nights. This is the main source of fuel for our home so if you burn the wood we have paid to have split on our property we’ll have to replace it to keep our family warm. We have four separate camping locations on the property; site 3 right next top the dam is limited to one large RV and/or a couple of tents but you can easily have up to four RVs on sites 1, 2 and 4. We have tried to ensure privacy for each location but you may be able to see other guests and/or the house through the many trees. Please be aware that there are two dams on the property, only one of which is fenced with livestock fencing, so children should supervised at all times. My own children swim in the dam and there is a kayak available but lifejackets must be worn by children in, around and on the water to minimise risk. Pets are welcome but are entirely your responsibility. The kangaroos may prove quite enticing for some pets and as such we recommend dogs should be kept on their leash. We have one dog on our property and our neighbours also have dogs. Site 4 has ringlock fencing and farm gates which can be helpful to contain your dogs. Please be aware that the Kyneton Gun Club has their monthly clay target shoot on the 3rd Sunday of each month (2nd Sunday in December) from 11am until 5pm during which time you will hear them clay pigeon shooting. We are NOT a commercial campsite and, as such, you must be fully self-contained for power, water, showers, sewage, refuse disposal, etc. We only have our household wheelie bins and once they’re full then they’re full. Rubbish cannot be left on the ground next to them due to the local wildlife. THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR NOISY AND/OR DRUNKEN PARTYING!!!! Guests under the age of 25 must be accompanied by their parents.

Locally we are close to all the Yarra Valley and Kinglake Ranges have to offer from wineries to the National Parks for hiking. We are 10 minutes from Kinglake township and 15 mins to Yarra Glen, which means a quick trip if you need supplies. The highway is close by which makes it handy to get out and about. Wildlife we have seen on the property includes Wallabies, Echidna, and an abundance of bird life. Laugh with the Kookaburras at sunset. Dogs are welcome however due to wildlife and the bush location, we ask that you please keep them on a lead at all times. If you are planning on bringing a dog with you, please let us know in advance. We also have horses (separate from the campsite) that campers can feed a carrot if they wish! Water is available from our stables water tank. It is Tank water so not crystal clear but think of it as euculyptus tea! NB: **We do have neighbours and the highway near by so there will be some noise . Would suit campers who want to kick the footy, wade in the river and maybe go 4wding or out and about fishing. Ok to play your own music near the camp fire as you are far enough away down the back paddock! **Not suited to those wanting to be in the middle of nowhere

No power or water tap. But there is a spring to collect running water. This site has easy access to drive in with plenty of space to turn around. 3 different flat areas to choose from to set up. This property has two sites that can be booked, two different listings - (see Fowkes family flower farm for other listing) Only a 20-minute walk to the town of Kinglake & a 2-minute drive. This site offers plenty of open space to safely have a campfire. Plenty of fallen branches and trees to cut up for firewood. Or purchase wood from the local food works, closing at 7pm OR the servo closing at 9pm. This site is on a 105-acre farm, with a private spring water swimming hole, water can be collected from the running water spring. The farm is home to a mob of kangaroos, please watch from a distance. You will also spot and hear wild deer. The site does have plenty of grassed area, but we will let you know there is a bit of black berry bushes that we will start removing over time. (This area we cannot use chemicals close to the water ways.) Goats are soon on their way to help with the weeds and greeting our guests. This site has a lot of history from bottling water from the old factory, (no longer in use), Potatoe and berry farming and raising sheep. You will feel so relaxed in a private and tranquil site. We manage 2 sites on this farm & 2 sites on the neighboring farm Taxi service - The Graceful-Goat to get you around to the local eats and wineries. The Kinglake market is on the 4th Sunday of each month 10-2pm except December which is the Sunday before Christmas - twilight 2-7pm No market in January. The St. Andrews market is every Saturday, 9am to 1pm just 12 minutes down the mountain. Whittlesea market is on every Monday 9am - 1pm *You will have access to Fowkes Family Farm to purchase and pick flowers and come along to feed the sheep.

Six excellent hideaway Camping sites to choose from. Some close to the water. Large sites which can handle 40 campers per site. Good areas of bushland and also a working sheep farm. Very private areas for camping. Campfires available but only in months when fire restrictions are not in force. A wide range of birdlife and duck life, wildlife including kangaroos, possums, echidnas. In wet weather you may need a 4 wheel drive vechile to access some of the sites. You will need to bring all your camping gear as these are tent and vechile sites only. We dont have any huts at this stage. 30 minute drive to Ballarat, 45 Min Geelong, 2 minutes drive to the village of Elaine and The Farmgate Shop which is open 7 days a week with a full range of all groceries, bbq needs, drinks, snacks, etc. 5 minutes to dollys creek, 5 minutes to Mt Doran/Lal Lal, 10 minutes to Meredith. Its a hidden gem. We are happy to take your booking. Sorry strictly no dogs allowed.

91 Gordons Bridge Road was once part of a pine plantation that had been planted in the late 60's and harvested just prior to the Black Saturday fires. Across the road from the Kinglake National Park, it is surrounded by protected flora and fauna. Victoria's Pink heath, wattles and tea tree provide a pleasant backdrop in season. It is not an uncommon site to see an echidna or two on the property, with black wallabies, kangaroos and wombats often seen grazing on pasture in the evening. The mud turrets are the home of endangered land yabbies and Lyrebirds have been seen in the area. Feral deer have come to inhabit nearby properties and sometimes wonder down the track. Birds watchers will enjoy a variety of bird life that inhabit the area including eagle hawks, fairy wrens, kookaburras, rosellas, parrots and yellow tailed black cockatoos when in season. The area is a popular spot for hikers with the start of the Mountain Creek trail only a few kms down Gordons Bridge Road and serious cyclists train regularly, on Mount Slide, especially on the weekend. For the serious wine lover the property is within 15km of the Yarra Valley Wine Growing area with many wineries offering tastings.

We have 2 dogs, 6 pet sheep and 4 lambs, 2 blue tongue lizards The farming area is completely fenced in, this is to keep the deer out, but you can venture out onto the property bush land with the correct map and navigation equipment. Our walk the neighboring farm (105 acres) Eagles, cockatoos, black cockatoos, kookaburras, magpies, rosellas, king parrots, Gang-gang cockatoo, honey eaters can be spotted most days and lyrebirds if you’re keen to go looking. We have opened up a beautiful flat expanse at the rear of our five acre property and made it available to self contained campers and caravaners. We are travelers ourselves and often find it difficult to find peaceful yet secure spots that allow us to explore capital cities and the lovely areas around them. Most cities tend to have caravan parks in the outer suburbs and these can often resemble concrete jungles and be very busy leaving you feel like you have to pay a top premium to be cramped into a space. But what options do you have if you want to explore a vibrant city like Melbourne. See a show, do some shopping, eat out at some of the World's greatest restaurants. Yes, we all should splurge every now and then even when on the road. Our property lies at the very start of the Yarra Valley. It is surrounded on three sides by the magnificent Helens Hill vineyard. In the Summer months you can watch the fruit come onto the vines and in the Winter the views open up to see the kangaroos bouncing though the rows and often silhouetted against the skyline sunsets. We are less than 5 minutes to Lilydale town center. Supermarkets, restaurants, service centers, parts stores, hardware are all on the doorstep, yet looking out over the vines you wouldn't know. Lilydale is 38 kms from Melbourne CBD and there is a train station with ample day parking making it super easy to explore the heart of Melbourne and return 'home' to your country retreat for the night. Myki cards available on site FOC. There is a dump point only 3kms away at a local caravan park for those that need it and at our property water can be available to fill your tanks if needed for a small donation. There is no water or power connection on the sites but you can release your grey water to nourish the grass. Lilydale has a large laundromat available to you. We have a beautiful covered eating area with BBQ available so if the weather turns inclement you can still eat out yet under cover. All campers must be 100% self contained. These are remote sites with no connections and there are no toilet facilities available. We have restricted our area to a maximum of 6 sites to ensure that everyone has their space. Sites are not marked and locations will be on a first booked basis. Owners will direct you to your areas. The area is beautifully flat and does absorb water well but care must be taken to not tear it up after heavy rains. Please seek assistance from owners rather than tearing up the grass as a tractor is available. We can cater for large sized vans and even large motorhomes. Tents are welcome. The property is pet friendly but not fully fenced so your furry friends would need to be on lead. We have our own dogs on the property. Hipcamp being USA based describes the sites and vehicles in USA terms and lengths. There is no way to alter this but please be aware. We cater for Aussie sized caravans and 4wd vehicles. 14 or 15m long all up, no problem. Just in a 4x4 with roof top tent and awning, we have you covered. Cruising the country in a Commodore with a pop top, all good here. Please be aware that we do share a boundary with a working vineyard and they do occasionally have a tractor or crew out in the vines doing some work. There can be a bit of farm machinery work every now and then but this is beyond our control and generally very minimal as vines dont take much looking after unless its harvest night.

Nestled amongst the mountains just outside of the township of Whittlesea our 40-acre property sits above the clouds. This experience comes with sweeping views, a hidden waterfall, a clear campground, and plenty of wildlife. The camping area is accessible by 4WD only, otherwise, strap on a backpack and earn it! (800m walk/hike from where a non-4WD can park). The waterfall is reached by a single trail track from the campsite, and you do need to be an experienced hiker to get to the waterfall. Which is part of the appeal! We welcome self-contained campers, who bring their own toilet and take all waste with them. We have a strict Leave No Trace policy. Or choose to stay in our beautiful A-frame cabin, with plush bedding, cozy fire, and outdoor lounge. More than anything else this is a place to relax and be away from normal, live outside yourself, and rediscover what weekends are for. Dogs are welcome, so long as they don't bother the wildlife. Campfires are allowed, BYO firewood or campers can collect fallen timber from the property.

Overview

The southwestern Melbourne suburb of Werribee offers the best of several worlds: it’s near the big-city attractions of Melbourne without being in the thick of it, it’s near some of Melbourne’s fun city beaches, and it’s an easy jumping-off point for visiting parks, reserves, and driving the Great Ocean Road. Many visitors also come to check out the Werribee Open Range Zoo, a family-friendly spot with some cool animals, including giraffes and zebras. Campers can head to a couple of well-equipped coastal holiday parks at Werribee South Beach.

Where to go

You Yangs Regional Park

The closest regional park to Werribee is the small You Yangs Regional Park, which is popular with walkers, horse riders, and mountain bikers in particular, with some 50 kilometres of purpose-built mountain biking trails in the park. Active travellers might want to climb to the summit of Flinders Peak, for great views of Melbourne and Geelong. You can’t camp in You Yang but there are many options in and around nearby Lara, Geelong, and southwestern Melbourne.

Great Otway National Park

A couple of hours’ drive southwest of Werribee and along the Great Ocean Road, the Great Otway National Park is worth a detour while on this road trip, whether to camp or just hike and check out the beautiful surroundings. The park is divided into four main sections, each of which has campsites and facilities available. The nearby Otway State Forest—plus the towns and villages surrounding the park—offer other camping options.

Lake Connewarre Wildlife Reserve

Drive south from Werribee and through Geelong and you’ll reach the Bellarine Peninsula. As well as a few attractive seaside towns, you can find the Lake Connewarre Wildlife Reserve in the middle of the peninsula. Set around Lake Connewarre, which flows into the ocean via the Barwon River, the reserve is home to around 150 bird species, including protected migratory birds, so is a good spot for birdwatching. There are many places to camp around the Bellarine Peninsula, particularly in coastal Barwon Heads, as well as Geelong.

When to go

Werribee can be visited year-round thanks to its proximity to central Melbourne. If the weather is cold and wet, head into the city to enjoy the urban attractions. When it’s fine, get outdoors and enjoy the nearby beaches, coast roads, and regional and national parks. Because most of the camping options around Werribee are well-equipped caravan parks, camping can also be enjoyed comfortably year round.
