Heritage listed homestead featuring children’s art and literature. Currently featuring a beautiful exhibition by award winning Australian authors/illustrators Mark Wilson, Leigh Hobbs, Ann James & Gabrielle Wang. Nestled in the Macedon ranges in the tiny hamlet of Riddell’s Creek, Dromkeen is 30 minutes drive from Melbourne Airport. This stately National Trust home has beautiful gardens with a range of Australian native and European plants, a gazebo and two resident alpacas. We have space in the large carpark for vans, motorhomes, or alternatively the horse paddock for tents and campers. Ample toilets available. Dogs permitted by advance request. Guests are welcome to visit the Tea Room, open 10am – 5pm Wednesday through Sunday. Our daily menu contains a selection of delicious cakes, devonshire tea, toasted sandwiches, specialty pies and weekly specials and of course, tea and coffee. Breakfast is served all day. Browse in the galleries or wander around the beautiful gardens which have trees more than 100 years old, some listed on the National Trust register. Meet our 2 Dromkeen alpacas Hannah and Lilly. ***Please note, we are a rubbish free campsite, so campers are asked to take their rubbish with them. Dromkeen has very clean toilets, but a reminder there are NO showers. Also all sites are unpowered, but upon request prior to arrival a powered spot may be available at an extra $10 a day. Please ring to verify this. During summer months because of fire restrictions we also remind campers there should be NO outside campfires. ****Also please note, each van or tent is considered a separate booking site and each site is considered a space for 2 adults and up to 4 children. Where there are 2 couples, they are required to make 2 separate bookings.

I had a great weekend camping here, even with the weather swinging from very hot to quite cold. It’s a fantastic location with beautiful views overlooking Mt Sugarloaf and Gisborne. Bernadette was a wonderful host and made everyone feel welcome. The facilities were clean and well maintained. There were several families and groups staying over the weekend, but it never felt cramped — sites were well spaced and everyone had their own space. The art gallery and café were open, which was a real bonus. It was great to escape the 40-degree heat for a while and enjoy a quality coffee and a delicious vanilla slice.

We had an incredibly relaxing and fun stay. The place has a true sense of calm that you feel right away. Bernadette was warm, welcoming, and so easy to communicate with both before and during our visit. The food from the tea room was absolutely delicious and beautifully served. We’re already looking forward to our next stay.

Bernadette was an amazing host and took the time to walk us around to find a spot that could meet our needs. The toilet facilities are very well maintained. We also made sure to check out the Dromkeen gallery and cafe for some nice treats that felt like they were home made — simple and hearty. Would come again. Thanks Bernadette and co!

We had the BEST stay at Dromkeen! It’s an absolutely beautiful place, and so peaceful, the views are amazing, and the tea room is just gorgeous! Excellent coffee and yummy treats 😊 but the best of all, was Bernadette! Bernadette is the most beautiful person you will ever meet, she is so kind, understanding and caring, Dromkeen means so much to her! Cannot wait to go back!!! Thank you Bernadette, we appreciate you! Whilst there are very few options for caravans if you want to stay in the Gisborne/Macedon area, l found the cost of $55 p/n quite expensive for an open windy paddock. It was good to have toilets, but it was easy to see cleaning them is not the priority in their overall business chores.

Absolutely magic place! Stunning property with a grand home full of character. Bernadette went above and beyond. And made my children feel very included. The Gallery was wonderful to view and children appreciated the tour. Amenities were great and took the stress out of camping. Would definitely recommend.

It’s a very convenient location, the bathrooms were very clean, lovely view and the host was friendly. In saying that $55 a night is a lot given that there aren’t showers and the paddock doesn’t have any flat areas. We were lucky in having the place to ourselves, had the whole paddock to choose from and still needed to use max trax to level our 4WD.

Wonderful place to stay, great location and lovely gallery and cafe. Owners were wonderful, and it was quick and easy to get to Melbourne and other more touristy towns. Lovely town as well, friendly and with everything you need. Existing photos don’t do it justice, it is a lovely property!

We had a lovely one-night stay at Dromkeen in our motorhome. Our hosts were most welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful countryside, as well as the gallery tour and the very interesting stories that went with it - thank you. We were sorry we only had one night and would happily recommend the site and hosts.

The location is a perfect basecamp for exploring the Macedon Ranges, Kyneton, and Woodend areas. The camping grounds are spacious, so you have plenty of privacy compared to other parks. The facilities, especially the toilets, are excellent for a camping site. Plus, spotting the cute kangaroos and rabbits at sundown is such a wonderful bonus!”

We stayed after a day of exploring hanging rock and the surrounding area. The site has a lovely view and is close to the clean toilet block. The hosts are welcoming and friendly . There is a really nice cafe on site also that we had a beautiful hot breakfast and coffee to start the morning. This is our second visit and we would absolutely come again.

The camping at Dromkeen was excellent, we set up in the paddock with a view over a little valley and it was lovely and peaceful. You could just hear the main road, but there wasn't much traffic after sunset. There were bathrooms available for use which were clean, but be mindful there weren't any showering facilities (as advertised in the listing). It was just a short drive into town for essentials and the Macedon Ranges are close by for hiking and sightseeing. Overall a great little stay!

Lovely property and hosts. The gallery there had some amazing pieces on exhibition and the tearoom was lovely, especially convenient if you can't be bothered making your own coffee at your site. Toilets were clean and well stocked. Little man loved seeing a mob of around 40 kangaroos in the paddock in the late afternoon. Only potential negatives are that the public access & carpark for the tea room and gallery is visible from the camping area, so it's not super private and there seemed to be some confused looks from patrons as to why there were tents set up. Also for those unfamiliar with the area, there will be a bit of noise from the nearby train line and flight path but that just comes with the nature of the location. All up we were quite happy!
