Nestled amongst the mountains just outside of the township of Whittlesea our 40-acre property sits above the clouds. This experience comes with sweeping views, a hidden waterfall, a clear campground, and plenty of wildlife.
The camping area is accessible by 4WD only, otherwise, strap on a backpack and earn it! (800m walk/hike from where a non-4WD can park). 91 Gordons Bridge Road was once part of a pine plantation that had been planted in the late 60's and harvested just prior to the Black Saturday fires. Across the road from the Kinglake National Park, it is surrounded by protected flora and fauna. Victoria's Pink heath, wattles and tea tree provide a pleasant backdrop in season.
It is not an uncommon site to see an echidna or two on the property, with black wallabies, kangaroos and wombats often seen grazing on pasture in the evening. The mud turrets are the home of endangered land yabbies and Lyrebirds have been seen in the area. Feral deer have come to inhabit nearby properties and sometimes wonder down the track. Birds watchers will enjoy a variety of bird life that inhabit the area including eagle hawks, fairy wrens, kookaburras, rosellas, parrots and yellow tailed black cockatoos when in season.
The area is a popular spot for hikers with the start of the Mountain Creek trail only a few kms down Gordons Bridge Road and serious cyclists train regularly, on Mount Slide, especially on the weekend. For the serious wine lover the property is within 15km of the Yarra Valley Wine Growing area with many wineries offering tastings.

There is an area of thick native forest and a stand of the critically endangered bush, the Round-leaf Pomaderris, right near the camping area.
There is an abundance of birdlife at the camping location, including kookaburras, fairy wrens, greater shrike thrushes, robins, bellbirds, wedge-tail eagles, magpies and owls (namely boobooks).
We are within easy reach of Toolangi State Forest with many walks and trails, including the WirraWilla Rainforest Walk and the Kalatha Giant Mountain Ash tree walk.
This area is also popular for 4 wheel driving and there are plenty of tracks in the nearby state forest if you have the correct gear, vehicle and an appreciation for the wilderness.
Healesville, Yarra Glen and Kinglake are equal distance away (18-20 minute drives) with services, plenty of cafes, restaurants, wineries and shopping:

We are 1 hour East of Melbourne along the M1, (and a couple of kms off the M1). Situated in West Gippsland. Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses and very close by you can enjoy the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the (mostly) lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries.
The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, not really ‘swimmable’, a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family and folks, we also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet - mainly seen at dawn or dusk.
Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans, tents or trailers (under 10 metres) in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your own group.
If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space.
As a reminder, all campers will need to be Self Contained as we have no toilet facilities, no access to fresh water, cold showers only and no cooking facilities.

Nestled right beside the Murrundini River, all 3 campsites are right beside the river, and well spaced apart for privacy and peace. Campsite 2 (site two) is shady,
surrounded by tall swamp gums, black wood wattles and tree ferns. This spot is at its best from late spring through to autumn .
Site One is a large flat area beside the river that is good all year round. It has fencing and gates, perfect to let dogs run free without going too far.
Site 3 (Craig's flat), is a large open campsite, able to take more camper-vans/ tents with plenty of space.
All sites have fire places and gas BBQ's (byo gas bottle) And there are plenty of fish for those that want to try their luck.
All sites and river swimming are clothing optional, but please respect other campers in public area's if on site.
In response to a recent review, I will point out that the driveway is a gravel farm track.

91 Gordons Bridge Road was once part of a pine plantation that had been planted in the late 60's and harvested just prior to the Black Saturday fires. Across the road from the Kinglake National Park, it is surrounded by protected flora and fauna. Victoria's Pink heath, wattles and tea tree provide a pleasant backdrop in season.
It is not an uncommon site to see an echidna or two on the property, with black wallabies, kangaroos and wombats often seen grazing on pasture in the evening. The mud turrets are the home of endangered land yabbies and Lyrebirds have been seen in the area. Feral deer have come to inhabit nearby properties and sometimes wonder down the track. Birds watchers will enjoy a variety of bird life that inhabit the area including eagle hawks, fairy wrens, kookaburras, rosellas, parrots and yellow tailed black cockatoos when in season.
The area is a popular spot for hikers with the start of the Mountain Creek trail only a few kms down Gordons Bridge Road and serious cyclists train regularly, on Mount Slide, especially on the weekend. For the serious wine lover the property is within 15km of the Yarra Valley Wine Growing area with many wineries offering tastings.

Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries.
The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, not really ‘swimmable’, a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family and folks, we also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet - mainly seen at dawn or dusk.
Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans, tents or trailers (under 10 metres) in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your own group.
If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space.

Site 3 (Craig's flat), is a large open campsite, able to take more camper-vans/ tents with plenty of space.
All sites have fire places and gas BBQ's (byo gas bottle) And there are plenty of fish for those that want to try their luck.
All sites and river swimming are clothing optional, but please respect other campers in public area's if on site.
In response to a recent review, I will point out that the driveway is a gravel farm track.
We have some fantastic views from the hill up and down the Murundindi Valley, especially at sunset. We're located only a few short km's from Wilhelmina Falls and Murundindi Scenic Reserve, you get the best part of the river, without the crowds. We are a
short drive from Melbourne, and easy access to the townships of Yea and Yarra Glen for supplies if you need them. Amazing, abundant
and rare bird life to enjoy and photograph. (see guests photos). I am hoping to increase the nesting and habitat for as many local birds as possible, which has improved, but can get better with Your help. Not destroying large logs and tree's is first and foremost. But if you are inclined , funds for creating nesting spots are greatly appreciated. You can directly ask for donations to go towards specific prospects/ projects. Tawney frog mouths have loved this site till very recently, without explanation, found two dead in last 9 months, that don't explain how or why. For donations specific to conservation, please contact me direct.
With no light pollution this is the ideal spot for star gazing.

This is a gorgeous place, it’s quiet and secluded. There is a fence around the site which is great to have your dog off leash. The river is a lovely place to cool down and the little cottage is so cute. We enjoyed reading a few books and guides that gave us ideas of what to explore around the area. The site was clean and well

Such a great private camping spot on Sue and Chris’s property. We were a group of 9 adults, 2 kids and a dog, and it was perfect. Sue was a great host and made the extra effect to ensure we were comfortable and the kids were happy (even letting them sit on Amy the horse). Great communication too. Highly recommend.

Very last minute booking, the commuinication was fantastic! Prompt replies and met us at the property entrace to show us the facilities and where to set up camp. Felt very private, even though close to main house it was seperated by big trees. Friendly doggos came to visit us at camp then went about their day, lovely site by the river!! :)

Caleb and Clara’s site is so thoughtfully set up! They brought out eggs, bread and wood fire (you can purchase for so cheap). We set our tent a little too far from the power source but Caleb loaned us an extra long lead!
It’s perfect for those of us who want an easy camp!
There is a drop toilet (the cleanest compost toilet ever!) You could hook up a shower if staying longer as the creek was low.
Safe to leave your belongings and wander off too.

It’s a privilege to stay at Casa Cucina! A beautiful space, which is easily accessible and flat to suit all types of camping. Chris is the perfect host, getting in touch ahead of check-in and giving us a warm welcome. Super easy to find and access.
The nearby Robin Hood Inn has a courtesy bus, which can come pick you up and drop you back again. Highly recommend a stay here.

We loved our camping experience here! Such beautiful scenery, lovely wildlife and wonderful feel camping in the vineyards. So much to do in Murrindindi and Toolangi state forests, and plenty of amazing places to eat and drink at your doorstep. Woke up to eagles roaming, hot air balloons in the distance, and lovely ducks on the dam. Thank you for a wonderful experience 😄

Seong was a wonderful host who brought out freshly cooked South Korean food, it was delicious! The camp site was great, nestled on the outside of Noojee, within an easy walk to pubs. Each campsite is river side, very ideallic! 3 out of 4 sites had campers but still felt private, and Seong's dogs, plus ours and other guests all played well - a great place to explore and paddle for the dogs. Dogs will need to be supervised in the river due to the currents around the beautiful fallen trees. I would definitely recommend!

This is really a wonderful campsite! The owner are friendly, the toilets are very clean. The scenery is beautiful and the ecological environment is superb. The lake water is clear and cool. We will definitely choose this place again in the future.

Such a beautiful spot right on the river. No reception, very relaxing and unplugged, yet the pub was just a short walk away. Dog friendly, with some doggy playmates who come down to play. Seong was a lovely host. We will be back.

Such a great site where you feel in the middle of nature but you're actually so close to home.
The gazebo, chairs and table are really good to have and mean you can pack even lighter!

We love staying at Whispering Gums. It's always lovely and peaceful. Just sitting by the beautiful lake is very calming.
The two cows and the horse came for a sticky beak when we were having a fire. It was very cute.
Sue is a fantastic host and communication is great.

Great place to set up camp for two nights. Very quiet and private. Close to wineries and Badger Weir. Great size and views. Loved the afternoon sun. Slept well here. Perfect for 2 vehicles 4 ppl and 1 dog. Highly recommended and we will definitely stay again.

We had a beautiful, quiet stay at this riverside Hipcamp with our caravan. The site was peaceful and perfectly positioned beside the river, with the gentle sound of flowing water making it incredibly relaxing. It was easy to access, spacious and private, giving us plenty of room to set up and unwind. If you’re chasing a simple, serene escape, this spot is a gem.

Absolutely loved site 3 on Michael’s property. Each site is isolated from the other, grassed, tree lined and a fire pit - all adjacent to the river. Our dog loved the swimming. Perfect for that weekend getaway. Michael is extremely friendly and his communication skills were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. We have a 2 wheel drive motor home and had no problems navigating the camp site/property. A working toilet and hand basin are located about 80 metres from site 3 - which was a bonus. The property has wonderful views overlooking the mountains. A hilly walk to a nearby lookout and seat was stunning in the early morning. All in all we had a wonderful time and I would recommend this property.
